random day
In the comment section last week I was asked about how I come up with the posts I write. Well, I don’t have a very poetic or refined answer for that. I just write whatever is on my mind or filling my time. Yesterday I shared a craft I made with my boys. Today is a just a random compilation of pictures and little notes about those pictures. Tomorrow will probably be a tutorial on something I made for my bedroom. Sometimes I have a post rolling around in my head a bit before I write it. I have one of those now. Just little thoughts that will make their way to this space soon. So there you have it…how I write this blog. And if you are wondering – so far I’ve never struggled with something to say each day here. That is probably more related to my lack of adult conversations on a day to day basis than any creativity on my part!
Well onto today’s randomness.
The snow is finally melting and that means we will have a LOT of mud around our place this week. These rainboots look so clean in the snow…that will be changing. It is supposed to be in the 70s on Thursday, so I am pretty sure I’ll have some muddy boy pictures soon. Who am I kidding? I’ll have muddy boys AND one muddy girl.
My heart will break a little the day he stops snuggling with LegoMen.
Mod Podge on the back of a vintage puzzle for my room. I know they have special glue for this, but I had Mod Podge and it works great.
I don’t actually fix my 2 blond bangs like this it was the wind. I promise. I’m wondering at what age he will begin not yelling at my camera.
Last year I did a guest post on Apartment Therapy about my favorite books. Amy (who reads my blog) saw my favorite book as a child at a thrift store and picked me up a copy. I am so grateful! My friend Shannon gave me the cookbook and my aunt Sandy scored this Amy Butler fabric for $2.99 a yard! Thanks girls! If you are wondering why I post pictures of random presents…it is because it challenges me. I want to be like this – to see something that I know someone else would love and then get it for that person. I want to be more thoughtful and generous.
Women’s Day featured my tray table this month. I tossed a copy of the magazine to my oldest to see if he could find ‘something cool’ in it. “Mommy, our couch is in this magazine!” What makes me smile in this picture is not that I have something featured in a magazine (though that is very cool and still blows my mind), it is that my son could read the whole article. So many children grow up without ever getting the opportunity to learn to read. The ability to read is transforming and empowering. It is a gift.
For now these are the kinds of studs I am teaching her to find. She’s a quick learner.
Don’t let her sweet face fool you. Her brothers built her Tinker Toy swords and she knows how to use them.
My four year old (the one that cuddles LegoMen) asked for these. How can I say no to a little guy that cuddles Legos? He and I both like the blue ones.
I made my family pink heart shaped pancakes yesterday. My four year old refused to eat them because they were pink. Seriously. Later in the day I made a Red Velvet Cake from scratch – which only happens once a year. It looks really small in this picture…it is normal size. The same 4 year old who wouldn’t eat pink pancakes was not happy with my cake until I put a sprinkled heart on it. Sigh.
My dad makes my sister and I chocolate covered strawberries for Valentine’s Day each year. I don’t share them.
This was the first year I really had a lot of fun in the snow with my kids (the older ones). They lasted longer and enjoyed snowball fights. These are my favorite snow pictures from our Oklahoma blizzard. So very boy. So very MY boys. By the way, I put my camera on fully automatic most of the time when I am in the snow with my kids. It is so bright and it just works for me (other than power lines being in focus, that drives me nuts). If I were to print these I would use Photoshop to remove the power lines.
