our first girls trip

Baby Sister and I are back from our first Girls Trip….I look forward to many more to come.

We said ‘goodbye’ to her daddy and brothers…and waited to board the plane. I had visions of a sleeping baby in my head. I also was hoping I’d sneak a peek in the plane’s cabin and find Frank Lapidis. Not that I wanted the plane to crash on a strange island, but it would have been fun to see a friend on the plane.

Those visions stayed in my head. Little Firecracker stayed awake for 6 hours of travel. As I sat down for the longest flight the guy behind my seat loudly asked the flight attendant for another seat. Thank you kind sir for making an already stressed mom a little more on edge. It was so kind and thoughtful of you to announce to everyone how displeased you were to have a baby in front of you . Thanks to 2 bottles, lots of food and my huge level of endurance we made it the whole flight without either of us crying. She won the hearts of those around her with her wrinkled nose smiles.

And we arrived at our destination…Seattle, to visit our friends, Ryan & Angela, and their sweet kids.

Pike Place was FULL of peonies. They were incredibly beautiful. We ate fresh doughnuts at Pike Place – they were incredibly tasty.

Public Market at Pike Place in the background. We stopped by Anthropologie. She didn’t like the window display.

Food: how to keep kids entertained while walking during naptimes.

Angela knows me so well. We got the kids to bed with Ryan at home and headed out for dinner. Dumplings at a dive. Thanks Ang – they were so, so good.

Catching the Light Rail (I hope that is the right name).

Angela & I at a bakery (kids & Ryan not pictured)…I ate more over the trip than I have in months…it was wonderful to only have to share with one kid!

The International District for lunch…did I mention Ryan & Angela know me well? We walked all day and ate the best food.  I’m getting hungry.

Angela took these pictures. Baby Sister basically never slept unless she was in bed, but I borrowed Ang’s baby carrier for a brief period…and got a sleeping baby for lunch.

Pho…..yum.

She woke up and decided she loved Pho…

Jenn, I’ll deep clean your stroller before I return it to you.

This little guy has better verbal skills than a lot of teenage boys I have been around. He is two. He is a cool little guy.

Eventually he got used to her trying to take all his stuff and eat all his food.

Ryan & Angela’s youngest. She is beautiful like her mommy.

And our trip home. She woke up at 6:30am and got home at 10:30pm….sleeping for only 10 mintues during that entire time. It was a LONG LONG LONG day. On the longest flight home I was sitting in my seat and saw a couple in their 60s approach my row. She looked at her husband, back at me and said, “I’m going to the other seat. You can have fun here.” He groaned. Why can’t people whisper such comments? Well, Baby Sister didn’t cry but she gained 10lbs from all the food she ate to avoid it. What was supposed to be a 3 hour layover at DFW became a 5.5 hour layover. Pictures tomorrow of how I entertained myselft for part of that time.

Seattle is a great city. I have never seen so many coffee shops in such a small geographic area. I also am very jealous of Trader Joes, the ease of recycling and the overall healthy way of living the city promotes. I can’t wait to take Chris back one day and roam the streets without a thought to naptimes and baby snacks!

Thanks Ryan & Angela.
