Broken Arrow Cabin
In the past we made a long adventure of road trips and camping. We spent 5 weeks in our trailer a couple years ago and then a 2 week trip followed the next summer. Our Colorado/Montana trip this year was pretty short in comparison. With all the construction going on at home, we were not able to be gone too long. The main reason we left was to see family in Montana. My uncle built a lodge up there…a spectacular rustic getaway! There is a lodge, cabins, bunkhouses, a soup shack and countless other features.
This is my Uncle Keith’s first photo bomb (according to him). He seems pretty good at it though, so I question if it was actually his first. Also pictured are two of my cousins and my sister.
Our first day at my uncle’s we decided to climb the nearby mountain – Sugarloaf Mountain. My mom later told my sister I “forced” her to climb the mountain. I call it “firm encouragement.” We all need that person in our life that believes in us and pushes us to do hard things. Those that know me well, know I tend to volunteer myself to be that person…for everyone. (You’re welcome Mom). Also…I am growing out my bangs, so I basically wear a hat everyday now.
Years ago grandpa helped Uncle Keith build on the property. When grandpa talked about Uncle Keith’s home it was always with a smile. My uncle recently finished up a cabin he built in honor of my grandpa. He named it Broken Arrow (where my grandma and grandpa lived most recently…also my hometown).
As I walked through the rooms, I could see grandpa’s influence in every corner. Goodness I miss him.
Outside of the cabin we planted a tree in grandpa’s memory. My grandpa lived a quiet life and worked with his hands…usually with wood. He is deeply missed by the generations that came behind him and grandma. My grandma – she is deeply loved by those generations too. (In the next few pictures it is my sister with the hat and braid…grandpa always preferred us to have different hair lengths so he could tell us apart. All the braids and hats would have drove him crazy!)
