adding on {the 2nd update}

Construction is zooming along here. It felt like it took so long to get started, but once we broke ground things have been moving along quickly. I know one day I am going to want to look back at pictures of the process of adding on to our house, so I’ll be doing updates along the way here. The process isn’t just the way to get to the final product – it is as much of a gift as the end will be.

My oldest daughter jumped on the tractor and yelled, “Hit the gas daddy!” She also is the first to help me keep the work area clean. When everyone else runs their own directions, her favorite spot is still right by my side.This concrete area (photo below) will be covered with French doors on both ends. It will also have a door from the new kitchen (on the left) and a door into the studio (on the right). Chris is juggling so much.

He spends hours on the phone each day. I don’t spend an hour on my phone in 3 months. When I shot this photo I didn’t notice all the handprints. Once I looked at it on my computer, they popped out. There isn’t a single surface in this room that doesn’t bear witness to all the life happening in it. I’m thankful for that…and window cleaner.The day our new kitchen was delivered! The photo on the right shows where our breakfast nook will be – it is the space I am most excited about using.
In two days they had all the downstairs wall up (there will be a big open room above all of it). It’s pretty fun to see actual walls marking what has been drawings on paper for so long!As you read this, I am actually far from home watching Hudson compete in the National Memory Master competition. Thank you to all of you that cheered him on. I won’t be able to share results until later this week, but honestly the results are not a big deal to me. Watching the way he has taken ownership of his schoolwork and demonstrated incredible diligence and commitment to a really hard task is far more valuable than any prize.

By the time I get home there is a good chance the roof decking will be going on – unless an Oklahoma thunderstorm rolls in!

Happy Monday!
