Hudson the memory master
Today voting begins for a contest Hudson has worked SO VERY HARD on. I am incredibly proud of him and would sure appreciate any support from you guys!
The homeschool curriculum we use works in a cyclical fashion during the K-6th grade years. There are 3 cycles. This means every three years students repeat things they have previously learned. It involves the classical method of education – and taking advantage of a young mind’s ability to memorize information. Once a student hits 7th grade the memorization ends and all that information begins coming together in beautiful ways.
Each cycle covers 7 different subjects (world timeline, history, geography, science, grammar, math & latin). At the end of each year a student can orally test over all the information learned. Once a student finishes the oral test 4 times with near perfection, he/she is deemed a “Memory Master”.
Students are also given the option to orally test over all 3 cycles. If they pass 4 oral tests over 3 years of information with near perfection, they are deemed a “Grand Master”.

Hudson has been a Memory Master 3 times and a Grand Master the last 2 years. This year will mark his third year as a Grand Master! I’m incredibly proud of his dedication and motivation to accomplish something many shy away from.
During the 6th grade year, students can compete to participate in the National Memory Master competition. There are 3 rounds to the competition. The first involves an oral test, the second is a video submission, the third is a live competition (like a spelling bee, but over 7 subjects). Hudson is the only student in Oklahoma that entered this year! It is so hard!
For the video submission, students were given 12 history sentences. Using the 12 history sentences, they had to tie each fact together into a story, memorize the story, and present it on video. They were given one week to do this.
You can now guess what Hudson was doing all last week!
Well, the videos have been posted online for the public to view and vote. The videos with the highest votes will viewed by judges, who have the ultimate decision in regards to which students advance to the final competition. Only 16 students across the nation will advance.

Hudson has worked so hard not just this year, but for the last 5 years at mastering all the information. With joy, I want to help him get his video in front of the judges’ eyes…so, would you consider watching his video and casting a vote for him?

Sidenote: Voting requires that you submit your email address to cut down on voter fraud. After you submit your vote, you will get an email to verify it. I know that is extra hassle and annoying for some, so thank you for going the extra mile to throw a little support Hudson’s way!
