While we were in China this summer, the boys were introduced to Tim Hawkins by some friends there. Not introduced as in they met him…introduced as in they had never heard of him and instantly became big fans.

Countless Tim-inspired jokes have been shared around our house over the last few months. A couple weeks ago, I heard an announcement on the radio that Tim’s tour was coming through Tulsa. I went home and bought tickets that day.

Every season of parenting is different. We are in a season often marked by independence, testing waters, asking hard questions and – hormones. This is a season we can’t possibly have too much laughter, especially laughter that brings us together. I am constantly looking for ways to laugh with the boys. Life is hard. Growing up is hard. Laughing with your parents – well, that shouldn’t be hard.

We didn’t tell the boys what we were doing. We told them to get ready for a night out with mom and dad, but provided no other details. Goodness it was fun to drive them crazy trying to guess.

After dinner we arrived at the venue….and laughed until we cried. And cried again. When Tim busted out the homeschool jokes, I lost it. When he started in on moms that shop at Aldi – Chris and the boys lost it. I thought Chris might have to get up and leave just to be able to breath again. Evidently, my discount shopping is hilarious to the guys in this family! There were countless times I looked over to see my 11 year old doubled over in laughter at the mom jokes…and the bodily function jokes. It was awesome.

In the end our faces hurt from smiling, our abs were sore from laughing, and our shirts were wet from wiping the laughing tears.

It was a good, good night.
