Canon 6D & wifi
I mentioned last week (or the week before) that I connected my Canon 6D to my phone for wireless shooting. Several of you asked for more details about it, so I thought I would show you a little bit of how it works. My younger daughter asked me to curl her hair and I took advantage of the chance to get some photos on how the camera/phone connection works.I have no idea what cameras include this feature. I do know I waited way too long to activate it on my Canon 6D! I am not going to go over HOW to activate it, but here is a link that I used for setting mine up. The app is called Camera Connect, it is a Canon app. After I activate wifi on my camera, I can then connect my phone to my camera. Once the two are synced, I am able to access my camera from my phone. This means from my phone I can access all the pictures on my camera, I can take pictures with my camera from my phone, and I can change the settings on my camera from my phone.
Here is a visual for how it works. I set my camera up across from my room and got my settings and focus the way I wanted them. I find it is much easier to get the right focus using my camera than trying to get the focus right remotely using my phone.
In the shot below, we are seeing ourselves on my phone. This is the shot my DSLR took, but I shot it remotely using my phone. Does that make sense? Basically my phone is like a remote telling my camera to take the picture…only I can see what my camera is seeing and if I want to I can change the camera settings. In the next shot, my younger daughter is taking the photo using my phone as a remote. However, ideally I didn’t want to see the phone in my photo and I wanted to capture a candid moment. For this final shot, my other daughter took my phone went into another room and closed the door. She thought it was so cool that she could see us with my phone and take a picture with my camera all at one time. She told me I could set my camera up when the boys are playing and I could use my phone to sneak pictures of them from another room. I’m going to have to keep an eye on her.
Getting curls in her hair and giggling…me and my girl.
It is a cool feature for remote shooting, but also being able to access my camera photos on my phone. If I get a shot I want to share with family (or on social media), I can do it quickly. I’m pretty excited about how easy that process is now.
