nothing paint can’t fix
I told the kids they could each pick out an ornament during a trip to Hobby Lobby. My youngest picked out a football. Next fall she will be old enough to play flag football and she is confident she will score lots of touchdowns. Then she changed her mind and picked a soccer ball. Then a basketball. Finally, she saw a gymnast and she was sold. We searched for one without blond hair, but blondes were all that was in stock.
Her first reaction was to look up at me and say, “Mommy, we can just paint it, right?”
Absolutely.
Painting was her idea. I knew it would be hard for her little hands, but I also did not want to take away her excitement. She painted first and then passed it along to me to finish (and wipe off the smudges). She loves gymnastics. If she could go to her class everyday, I am confident she would. She’s constantly flipping.I love that she wanted to paint it for so many reasons.
I love that she thought to paint it – that she saw a problem and was confident she could fix it.
I love that she thought of paint – well, because I think paint is the answer to just about everything too.
Mostly, I love that she wanted a gymnast with black hair just like her. I love that instead of wanting hair the color of mine or her sister’s, she delights in her beautiful dark hair. She is secure in who she is and confident in the beautiful way she was created. I love that about her.
