The Silas Program Fund
Thank you all for your out pouring of love for my dear friends. I read every comment and one day I am guessing my friend Courtney will too. Courtney has always been such an encouragement to me regarding my blog and to see you all offer kindness to her makes me smile. Court and I met in college and roomed together for a year before she got married. Incredibly enough, she married one of my husband Chris’ close friends from his childhood. They are life-long friends to Chris and I. They’ve celebrated all our joys and wept with us in difficulty.
There will come a day for me to share more about their son Silas. Today, I will simply say Silas’ 56 hours were beautiful. Not a beautiful like you describe a new haircut, but a deep beautiful. One forged with both overwhelming joy and immense pain. One that can be described as a holy beautiful. Out of the beauty of his life, The Silas Program is beginning.
“A Tulsa hospital and medical team of professionals are partnering with Blake and Courtney to develop The Silas Program – a program which will provide palliative care as an option for parents whose newborns have received fatal diagnoses. This team-approach to care focuses on providing newborns with relief from the symptoms, pain, and stress of a serious illness with a goal of improving the quality of life for both the newborn and the family.
Your donation to The Silas Program Fund is the first step toward Blake and Courtney’s mission of walking alongside families in the Tulsa community who will face the unfathomable circumstances of losing a newborn. Whether helping with expenses, providing a treasured keepsake, or distributing literature related to grief, loss and palliative care, Blake and Courtney will use 100% of the money so generously donated to educate and serve these broken families.” – The Silas Program Fund Website.
On May 30, 2014, Blake and Courtney lost their precious son, Silas, to a complex and rare heart defect. After having been born on May 28, 2014, Silas lived 56 treasured hours. He spent his beautiful life in his parents’ arms and knew no pain or suffering. In fact, all he knew was love.

I share this today because I love this family. They are dear, dear friends to me and I long to help them in their hope of walking alongside other families who face a similar road. All Silas knew was love…
