the nesting has begun
Getting those stairs finished and looking a cute baby girl’s face has propelled me into ‘nesting’ mode. After you walk up the stairs in our home you come to a little landing. An ugly little landing where kids pile random things and toys get left out. One storage issue we have in this house is related to Lego creations. Previously, the boys built and tore apart. Now they are wanting to keep the things they build, but we’ve had no where to store them other than the floor of their room…not ideal. While everyone was sick (and laying around), I decided to take advantage of the relative calmness in the house to make over that little area and create a place for the boys to display their Legos.
I made some new pillows and a recovered the seat cushion. Totally girly, my way of fighting against all those ugly Legos.
So, I have to admit there are some really nice perks to having a blog…every now and then I get a box of goodies from American Crafts. The most recent box had lots of pink & green, so I pulled it out while working on the landing. I ended up using the green letters on a little “soon” sign (you’ll see it a few pictures down).
Pics of me with each of my kids on our first day together. Number 5 coming soon…though it won’t be in a hospital this time.
Once I got the shelves up the boys came to add their ugly Legos. I’m not crazy about the fabric strips over the window. I’ll probably change that.
I want to add a few potted plants, but need to actually remember to do it or write it down so I stop forgetting.
Nothing to blow your mind, just a one day project using things on hand…hopefully all that girly balances out the primary color Legos! The nesting didn’t stop there. I moved on to what will be the girls’ room. It had all my fabric and sewing supplies in the closet. I started packing it all up to move it out. Now it must find a new home…until then it sits in boxes making this room not so cute.
Once I got that room looking cluttered I moved on to the boys’ room. I decorated their room 2 years ago. The first picture was taken two years ago. In the course of 2 years when 3 little boys share a room…well it starts looking ROUGH. Holes in the walls. Unidentifiable liquids spills on the wall (I have no idea). Chipped paint all over. Missing cute pillows. Clock that stopped working. Just ROUGH. If I could just pad the walls and floor and throw a few blankets in the room we’d all be happy. Until that day comes, I will satisfying my nesting urges by repainting and making needed repairs.
My goal was to get the boy’s room done over spring break. However, after two trips to the store for paint and both times leaving because it was out of stock – I gave up on finishing it this week.
So instead of working on the room, we’ve been outside. I really just shared those photos to remind you that I do like things other than mud & shooting things. Days after we dug the ditch around the house, rain came. And came. And came. I was on the phone when the sun broke through. The older boys took advantage of my distracted state and made a quick exit in their rainboots. I figured I could either get upset about it or just let them enjoy themselves. I opted for the second option.
Every single one of us got stuck in the muddy ditch at one point. I played the role of Boot Search & Rescue.
This picture makes me happy. This is how I want my kids to remember childhood. Slow. Simple. Outside. Together.
Little miss didn’t want her boots back on after they sunk. She wanted to be outside with us but did not want any part of her body dirty.
Falling in the mud did not help things.
Kids, boots & clothes got hosed down.
This is how she feels about mud touching her body. We are going to have to work on that.
Wet little feet ran through the door straight to the shower.
So I haven’t got to paint this week. Big plans for projects have been put on hold. But we played in mud…we played hard in mud. Childhood goes by fast and I want to do everything I can to slow it down, even when it means a few extra loads of laundry.
