diy {bathroom mini makeover}

Our guest bathroom got a mini makeover. We haven’t touched this little bathroom since we moved in ~ other than my random tree painting. It has needed a little something to make it feel more a part of our house, but the tiny size made it hard to figure out what to change. Well, maybe it was the tiny size or maybe it is the fact that I don’t use it so I repaint the rest of the house on a rotating basis instead.

I am proud to now call myself an electrician. At least that is how I felt. Usually my dad comes to help me remove light fixtures and deal with the wiring. I have a healthy fear of being electrocuted. However, this was my day. Dad was out to lunch. Spray paint was ready. I removed the fixture without even a tiny shock. Arrrrrrr Arrrrr…that is my Tim the Tool Man Taylor growl.

Goodbye silver, I spray painted the fixture the same color as the door knob.

I decided to give the mirror some scallops. I just used craft paint, which will wipe off with a wet cloth when I change my mind….like I always do.

Next was changing the random knob the mirror hung from…the old one was a silver sunflower pendant. I had this knob from Anthro in my craft box, but the thread on it was way too long. This was a really easy fix. It is easier to describe with the photos….I used a jig saw to cut it.

The mirror previously hung from a cream satin ribbon. It is a bit shocking I have never changed out any of this stuff. Now it hangs from a scrap piece of cotton. I also changed out the bulb covers. I couldn’t find any at Lowes I was crazy about, but these are much better than the previous ones (you can see them in the second photo). I purchased the bulb covers for $6.00 each…everything else was just stuff I had on hand.

I took one of the bulb covers off to take to Lowes and didn’t mess with putting it back on for my “before” picture.

The total mini makeover was $17.00 ($12.00 bulb covers, $5.00 suitcase). Not bad….and it is a project that I can mark complete. Now if I could just finish that staircase project I started in October!

Today I am sharing a tutorial about my new hand towel holder on Design*Sponge. Click over there for all the details.

And, last but not least, my friends Tim & Kara Paslay will be on The Nate Berkus Show today. I am so excited for them. They are incredibly talented and are pursuing their dreams – it is exciting to see them getting recognized for their talent. I won’t get to watch it today, but I will figure out a way to see it. I would have been fun to have a watch party at my house. I could serve snacks off the concrete kitchen table they made me and feel cool because now I know someone famous!

Congratulations Tim & Kara…smart move Nate.
