from our spring
I kept thinking about coming back here and doing a little no-toe update after sharing that lovely amputation news, but it seemed like there was so much more to catch up on here that I just got overwhelmed and didn’t. I debated sharing a lot here that I post over on instagram, but I decided to just share a few recent photos and update you on my toe at the end.
The guys all had birthdays over the last few weeks. They are 13, 15, & 17 now. We’ve finished up big school projects, had a theatre performance, wrapped up basketball seasons and ate a lot of cake crumbs!
In regards to the no-toe, I’ve had 9ish weeks to get used to the new look of my foot. It still surprises me every time I look down. Like, “Huh. It still hasn’t grown back. Weird.”
Early on it very much looked like a mini Frankenstein – green with black stitches and a very square top. Thankfully, all that is gone now. Shortly after surgery there was a comment left on Instagram that introduced me to a young girl who also has nine toes and was beginning to be bothered by it. I clicked over to see her picture and instantly knew exactly what I would want to tell her. Knowing the words I would say to her gave me great clarity on what I should also be saying to myself.
I know you all are quick to encourage me. I’d like to toss out a little encouragement for you. Think of a part of your body you aren’t a super fan of and say to yourself what you would say to me.
After 41 years with 10 toes, I’m still getting used to my new look, but I’m good with my foot and have zero plans of giving up my love for flips flops!
