slowing down…
I know it is already a slow year for most, but since Chris and I both work from home and we homeschool….our regular schedule in 2020 has been relatively the same. Slowing down for us is more about being intentional putting the breaks on our regular and soaking in stuff together.
When my kids were younger I spent a good amount of time creating things out of our normal routine to make the weeks leading up to Christmas meaningful and slow. As my kids have grown up, I’ve watched them take the lead in doing the same – granted their ideas all get merged together for a family competition – the Campbell Christmas Olympics. Games. Cookie decorating. Mini gingerbread house building. More games. The 2020 champion has not been crowned, but I feel like regardless of the outcome I still win.
My daughter made a short video on how she made her hot chocolate bombs. Click here to see the video.
I moved our outdoor couch from Article inside for the winter. About a week after I moved it in I dropped a freshly watered hanging plant on it. Water. Wet dirt. The plant. Everything went everywhere. I was super grateful in that moment it was the outdoor couch it landed on because it is so easy to clean. There are currently 3 Article sofas in my living room – cozy & durable is the goal!
In a surprise move to beat the competition during cookie decorating – Corbett and Hudson busted out tweezers and took WAY longer than the rest of us (they were still at the table when the rest of us returned to our Mandalorian marathon).
We stayed up way too late one night watching old family videos. It is so true what they say about how times passes so fast when raising kids. Watching those videos it seemed like a different life – so very long ago and yet like yesterday. Soak in your loved ones this week (and always)…it all passes so fast.
