Some people just don’t get it {Turkey Mountain}
Washington has Mt. Rainier.
Colorado has the Rockies.
Alaska has Denali.
California has Mt. Whitney.
Tulsa has Turkey Mountain.
One of my favorite aspects of Turkey Mountain is not everyone gets it. It really is one of those places either your eyes are open to the adventure and beauty of all it is – blinded by what it is not OR you just don’t get it.
Our mountain has a summit of 810ft. The fact that we even know and celebrate that makes me laugh. It is 300 acres of undeveloped wilderness with a view of the city when you reach the top. You won’t find perfectly manicured trails, daredevils on bikes might zoom past you, you can climb the rocks, stay on the path, or create your own adventure. Turkey Mountain is what you make it.
The official Facebook page for Turkey Mountain has started sharing ‘bad online reviews’ left by those that don’t get the beauty of this place. They make me laugh every time I read a new one:
When someone visits Turkey Mountain they get to decide what kind of experience they will have. They get to decide if it is beautiful. They get to decide if it is fun. They get to decide what kind of attitude, thoughts, emotions, and adventure they are going to have.
Pretty much like most of life, right?
What I love about the bad reviews is the attitude of those posting them – they could linger, be disappointed, be bitter….or just laugh a bit at how not everyone gets it and that is okay. I have a lot to learn in that realm and each bad online review they share reminds me I can either be down when people don’t get me or I can have fun with those that do.
It may be a hill. It may not be Yosemite. It may not be a lot of things, but on the other hand it IS a whole lot more.
I may not be a lot of things, but on the other hand I am a whole lot more. You are too.
