I’ll be crying all the ugly, happy tears - Ashley Ann Campbell

I’ll be crying all the ugly, happy tears

My kids are super pumped that I have photoshop and am not afraid to create and share bad editing jobs!

Tonight is opening night for Courtyard Theatre’s Mary Poppins Jr. production. I have barely slept in a week – I am so excited. Hudson has the role of Micheal Banks. I have told myself that a million times the last few months. How in the world did we get here? How did the kid terrified of being the center of attention and people laughing at him become the young man fully embracing all of that? It feels like yesterday we were both in tears over him giving presentations to his tiny class of 5 in our homeschool co-op.

I haven’t seen any of the practices and the only lines I hear at home are “You are the holy terror!” and “She may be tricky, but she’s bloody good.” Thank you, Hudson. There is a good chance I will cry the entire performance. Sometimes as parents we get that rare chance to see the other side of a very hard battle. Sometimes we get to see the outcome turn out amazing when in the midst of the process we questioned everything we did. Tonight will be that sometime for me. Tonight I’ll probably ugly happy cry because I remember all the ugly hard tears it took to get to this place. I’m so excited to have my sometime arrive tonight.

For those wondering more about the process to get him here – I wrote a blog post about it a few years ago. You can click here to read it.
