he was made to entertain - Ashley Ann Campbell

he was made to entertain

In a world full of people that don’t like dressing up or drawing attention to themselves (like me!) – I’m grateful for the the Hudsons. The ones that jump on the chance to entertain and make the rest of us smile. I will never get over the fact that the only one of my 5 kids that didn’t like attention on him and crumbled when others laughed at him…is now the one chasing it. It never ceases to blow my mind.

I bring you Hudson’s costumes over the 6 weeks:

Walking into his great grandma’s fall party…entertaining random strangers along the way. ~ His viking costume for friends’ Leif Erickson party…he made this one too (with help from my mom).

His Lord of the Rings costume, which after the school party I am pretty sure he took it apart to turn it into something else. ~ And quite possibly the most entertaining….Hudson as a bush.

This weekend our town had an event on Main Street. He sat motionless waiting for unsuspecting passerby. As people caught on, a crowd formed behind him watching it all play out and laughing along with his victims. Friends set up friends, wives positioned their husbands just right. Hudson was living his best life disguised as a bush and scaring teens and adults. I watched from afar and couldn’t help but think, “He’s made for this.” He is crazy smart, a hard worker, determined, intentional, but he really shines when his playful spirit is let loose. There was a lot of laughing and a whole lot of smiles on Main Street tonight because of this guy. As we walked home he told me, “Best $30 I’ve ever spent.”

He has made, bought, and worn more costumes in 6 weeks than I have in 6 years (actually more like 20 years). I don’t get it, but I do get him. There really isn’t much that compares to seeing your kids thrive…even if you don’t actually see them because they are dressed like a shrub.
