Coworking Bravely {The Rose District}
When we began homeschooling I had a 3rd grader, 1st grader, 2 preschoolers, and a newly adopted 14 month old…and I was running a business from home. I barely remember anything from those first few years of homeschooling. I was on survival mode. I am not sure how I taught anything with preschoolers and a baby underfoot.
I was trying to figure out how to be a mom, how to homeschool, how to run a business, and how to keep up with normal life stuff.
That was 8 years ago.
I’m still trying to figure all that out.
Homeschool is hard – whether you have one kid or multiple. It has always been especially hard for me to work from home and homeschool and do all the normal home management stuff. For at least the last 6 years Chris and I have tried to figure out how to get me scheduled work hours to ease the weight on my shoulders. For 6 years we’ve failed.
Until now!
For the last month we’ve reached a system that is working. I’ve been spending one afternoon a week at a new co-working space so close to my house that I can ride my bike. What usually takes me 2 weeks to do while bouncing between all my other roles at home I can knock out in a couple hours when I am able to get away. My kids are old enough to stay home by themselves if Chris needs to leave, which really makes it possible for me to get away – a bike ride away. It has been awesome – it is also why there have been more blog posts in the last month and why I am not so far behind on email.
Also awesome about the new set up – Coworking Bravely is next door to my favorite bakery Laurannae Baking Co. Ride my bike to work, pick up a cookie and an iced coffee, work, and ride home. It may only be a couple hours once a week, but for someone who has juggled working at home with 5 kids – it is glorious!
For Tulsa area gals – I wanted to fill you post a few details in case any of you are looking for an option that fits what you are looking for too. Coworking Bravely is a coworking community for women – meaning it is a place for women to come work. Things like conference rooms, printers, wifi, refrigerator, snacks, etc. are provided. The building is locked, safe, clean, and quiet! The women I have met have been both friendly and engaging, but also respectful that everyone is there to work. It is kinda dreamy for an introvert that likes pretty places and not a lot of noise!
This month was a trial for me – to see if it was a plan we could actually stick with as a family. I love being home with my crew all week, but my one afternoon away to hammer out work has been a breath of fresh air. The atmosphere invites productivity and creativity. I was hesitant about joining – feeling like I should be able to work from my house and not get interrupted or distracted. However, 11 years of running businesses out of my home shows me I can’t avoid the interruptions or distractions – shocker.
It is such a pretty space and in the heart of my community, which means I can walk to get a pizza, bring it back to ‘work’, and have it all to myself without anyone in my family even knowing 😉
This is the first month Coworking Bravely has been open. There is a discount for charter members that will end this Friday. You can get 15% off any membership for life and 30% off if you sign up for at least 6 months. I’m stepping out in faith that this new schedule will continue to work for me and my family by taking advantage of purchasing the 6 month option. I am so excited!!
If you are in the Broken Arrow or Tulsa area, I highly encourage you to check Coworking Bravely out – whether you are looking for a membership or a place to host an event. I am a huge fan of my community and love when I get the chance to share about new things happening here!
