Double Digit Getaway {v.4}
She started planning her 10th birthday getaway month ago – well, more like years ago. With a clipboard in hand, she made lists, menus, and more lists. The guidelines were she had to pick something within 3 hours driving distance from our house. She opted for floating on the Illinois River and camping at the lake. She also planned for fruit topped pancakes, cobbler, and salads on the river’s edge.
Two days. Just the three of us.
The river is pretty shallow and we could probably walk faster than the current. She soaked up the laid back life of floating down 6 miles of clear river water.
We rode bikes around the campgrounds, stayed up late playing Phase 10, swam at a water park, and stopped for delicious pizza. She knew exactly what she wanted to do and she didn’t want it to end.
As we began the drive home she asked me to text her Nana (my mom) and have Nana keep the rest of our kids a few hours longer. Frozen custard, Netflix, and just us curled up at home for a few more hours were her final request. She might be the only person I would want to plan a birthday celebration for me!
Welcome to the Double Digits Firecracker – my mind can’t wrap around you being this old!
