stuck in the abyss - Ashley Ann Campbell

stuck in the abyss

Well, once again I did not intend to go another week without blogging! If I don’t get a blog post written between wrapping up homeschool and cooking dinner – it doesn’t happen.

The kitchen is finished!

I am hoping for a sunny day to photograph it to share here. Until then, how about a funny story from our final days of finishing up the kitchen.

Our island is part quartz and part wood (more details on all that later). Once the wood part was built, it needed to be mounted on the underside with screws. I crawled in every cabinet to attach it.

The final area for me to attach was from the plumbing chase. Where the wood meets the quartz there is about a 10″ gap between the cabinets. You can see it in the picture below:

To attach the wood, we had to pull out the dishwasher and I climbed into the little section to screw the wood into brackets from the underside. It was completely dark, so I used my phone as a flashlight. After I finished I crawled out, put the dishwasher back in, mounted the dishwasher, and went on to the next thing on the list.

About 30 minutes later, I needed my phone and couldn’t find it.

It took all of about 15 seconds for me to let out a groan as I realized the last place I had used it. We gave it call and sure enough it was in the abyss of our island – locked behind cabinets and appliances. I debated for a minute if it was worth it to me to have to detach and move the dishwasher again in order to get it. I got it – a bit begrudgingly.

That story pretty much sums up how the last few weeks have been looking for me…losing things, forgetting things, and a general uncharacteristic absent-mindness. I think all the caulk and dust are taking a toll!

Happy Monday friends – I hope your day doesn’t involve moving appliances more than necessary 😉
