a few of my favorites {IG}

It drove me crazy a few years ago when everyone was ditching their blogs and only posting on Instagram. Well, I still post here, but I definitely post more on Instagram…more quick photos and short captions anyway. I still prefer the longer posts with more words and more pictures that blogs allow…it is just easier to make quick posts there. I’m still a blogger at heart though!

In my head everyone that reads my blog probably follows me on Instagram. Well, I was thinking that may not be true. Today I am posting a few of my favorite recent Instagram posts. A couple of these pictures made the blog, but not the captions.

The first is my gift to you on this Monday morning…

We were talking about the parts of an atom and he turned to his sister, “Nucleus. You know what that is. Remember when Nacho Libre says, ‘Beneath the clothes, you find the man. Beneath the man, you find his…nucleus.” Basically I am killing it at this homeschooling mom gig. Open enrollment for my science class begins Monday.

“Well, why not?” My grandparents always had pistachios at their house – the only place I ever got them. I never buy them because they are expensive and I’m the only one that eats them. Yesterday on a whim I grabbed a bag as I stood in the check out line. In front of me a gentleman in his 80s (my guess), was chatting with the cashier and paying for his groceries. When it was my turn, the cashier told me the older man had paid my bill. When I asked him why he showed me that kindness, he turned and smiled, “Well, why not?” Best answer he could have given.

When the dog can jump higher than you can hold your snack cup. The toe point kills me. We moved all the indoor plants outside because of the dust inside. I usually kill plants outside, but so far so good. We also finished up hanging our Barn Electric lights last week! I posted more about them in my story. This means we officially have electricity in the addition and light outside again

He rode his bike to get his hair cut. I came later with his younger brother. When I walked in, I saw another mom with 2 little guys – a toddler and a baby. Time is weird. One day I was juggling an infant car seat and pulling out all the stops to get my toddler to sit still for a haircut. Now my boys ride their bikes down Main St., get haircuts on their own, and shoot a smile my way before they head off to their next adventure. (As I wrote this Corbett decided he didn’t like my left-over options for lunch and rode to the little burger shop to buy his own lunch.)

I asked her if she could guess which color I picked for the nook benches. “Green,” she said with a big smirk.

Basically the same face I make when people ask how I am doing and if we are almost done with construction…

______________

They say it is often our actions, not our words that have the greatest impact on our kids. Obviously watching me cover the floors and wall studs with prayers, scriptures, and dreams had a significant impact on my teenager.

Yesterday I was wishing it was in the budget to hire crews to come finish all this for us. Today I looked up to see my 10, 12, and 14 year olds laying hardwood floors like pros with no need of supervision. It was just the perspective gut punch I needed.

9.1.18 10:30pm floor sanding break compliments of the pizza delivery guy. Happy 17th Anniversary babe.

The pros are here finishing the downstairs wood floors. We can’t go in the main downstairs and I just didn’t have it in me to pack the kids stuff up for 2 days/nights. I told the girls to use a ladder and the boys can access their room from the roof. I’m telling myself one day they will look back at this and laugh…”remember when mom was so done she let us climb on the roof and crawl through windows?!”

______________

One day in the not so distant future they will be driving and our weekends will probably look very different. For now they are here with me and I’m soaking it up. Despite utter exhaustion I am learning to see how good this season of building alongside them has been. Late nights every weekend making messes and memories…from late night pizza deliveries to introducing them to Jaws, I’ve got it good.

Also – Article has drawn the giveaway winner and she should have received an email last week! If you did not get an email – maybe Article will let me give another one away one day!
