rain, attitudes & a thank you - Ashley Ann Campbell

rain, attitudes & a thank you

Thank you for all that you shared with me on my 10 year anniversary post. I am still reading through the comments because – LIFE! I’m not online much during the day and had hoped to read all your comments that night. Well, a 30% chance of rain turned into minor flooding in our studio space and more water coming in the house. We had water pouring out of light fixtures! Our roof wasn’t finished. An unfinished roof and rain do not make a good combination!

We woke the older boys up in the middle of the night to help us try to save all boxes stacked on the floor of the studio (half the house is packed up in those boxes right now!). Thankfully, we have concrete floors in there and some industrial fans helped dry everything out. We all have a new appreciation for shingles and the studio floor needed a major mopping anyway!

Things are a bit stressful around here. It is late at night as I type this and Chris is currently installing a window. Everyone is displaced. The kitchen has been partially demo-ed. We are using a refrigerator in the trailer. The sink in the studio. We’re keeping food wherever we can put it. It feels like camping, but without the fire.

The boys and I had a ‘family meeting’ about attitudes and how attitudes can become cyclical in a family. One person’s bad attitude leads to another person’s and it just keeps going until someone breaks the cycle. I reminded them how I am usually the one to pick up on the bad attitudes and break the cycle. Then I told them it was there turn to step into that role. They see the stress of current living conditions and juggling work/remodel on my face and Chris’. They know firsthand that stress can make me far less patient and I can easily be the one to start us on a bad attitude cycle. I asked them to help break that cycle when they see Chris and I start it. It’s pretty awesome to have kids old enough to ‘get it’ and rise to the occasion.

Since all posts need pictures (at least on this blog), here are few random ones from the last couple of weeks:
