Explore {Seattle, WA}

While we were in Washington for the Kids Adventure Games, we made sure to plan an extra day in Seattle. Since we were flying in and out of the city, it made staying a couple extra nights easier (plus when a friend’s mom offers to host you and she is the sweetest ever – can’t beat it). I’ve been to Seattle a few times (my first visit in 2010 with my baby girl – now 8!), but it was the first visit for Chris. We only had one evening and a full day to explore. Thanks to the recommendations of several friends, I think we made the most of our time there.

Quite possibly the highlight of the trip for our 3rd son was being pulled into a street magic show. Laughter is so good for the soul….and goodness were we laughing at him trying to participate in a SILENT magic show. After cheering for his big brothers during their race, it was good to see him get special treatment.

The kids were huge fans of the fountain near the base of the Space Needle. I am pretty sure we could have spent the entire day there, but sadly for them their parents wanted to explore the city. Also – Chris is the best dad. I was the wah-wah parent that did not want to walk around in wet clothes all day, so I skipped the ‘who can touch the fountain and get the least wet’ races.We took the monorail from the Space Needle area to downtown (near Pike Place Market) – such a great recommendation from a friend of a friend! We didn’t last long at Pike Place. Saw the throwing of the fish, ate hot mini donuts, bought flowers and was grossed out at the gum wall. Well, not all of us were grossed out. Mainly me.If you blur the gum out and put a cute girl with pretty flowers in front of it…not so bad.A friend recommended taking a sunset ferry ride – great recommendation! We also checked out the lock system, hung out on the beach and took in the skyline at a few parks – a very full day!For only having a day in the city, I feel like we got to experience so many Seattle highlights. Next time we’d like to venture out of the city and into the wilderness. The mountains were definitely calling…I think a camping road trip up the west coast is going to need to happen soon!
