welcoming October’s routine
School.
Whatever method you choose, I feel like most parents say everything is better once they are settled back into the routine. I relish the days of summer, but goodness do I like the pace when we are in our schedule groove. It usually takes us a good month to get past the early stress of a new school year.
It has been about a month and we are in our groove. My friends with kids in public and private schools tell me the same – October is a good month.
In the hustle of getting into our new school year groove, it is easy for me to get stressed out and/or grumpy. It often feels like I can’t get all the working parts to work together…and then October arrives. I’ve been trying to do a better job of capturing our homeschool days. I’m often bouncing between kids and stopping to pick up my camera can be difficult.
I know one day I’ll want to remember this part of our days.
These moments seem very ordinary to me – just us doing our very normal, every day stuff. However, I know what is ordinary for me is not ordinary for someone else. Picking up my camera helps me to see the beauty in this season…in our routine. Your routine most likely looks different from mine. Maybe for you it is capturing the pile of backpacks that are tossed against the wall in the late afternoon or the hands reaching for snacks waiting for them after the school bus pulls away.
For most parents of school aged kids, October is a breather month. We are in our routine. I tend to think October is a pretty perfect month for stepping back and seeing the beauty happening around me….the beauty that just a month ago was really hard to notice.
