Color Run 2014 {and some announcements} - Ashley Ann Campbell

Color Run 2014 {and some announcements}

Finally.

“FINALLY!”

My six year old son has been waiting 2 years for his chance to run The Color Run. In 2012, Chris and I took his oldest brother. In 2013, I took his other big brother. This weekend it was FINALLY his turn for a Color Run date with me. He basically sprinted the 3 miles. I could hear people saying, “Woah, look at that little guy. He is so fast.” as we ran past them. I had to make him slow down or stop several times because I couldn’t keep up. The kid has speed. When I told him to slow down, he would tell me, “Mom, this is a running race.” Evidently, he took the running part much more seriously than his mom!

I didn’t take as many pictures this year because I was so focused on staying up with him!

At the end of the race there are big color parties…basically a huge group of racers all throwing color powder in the air. He decided instead of staying he wanted to take our color packets home to his brothers and sisters. Once home, he had them race while he threw powder on them. So funny. It ended with FireCracker just rubbing the pink powder all over herself. She gets to run it with me next year. Right now she says we will be running in gold tutus and gold shoes. We shall see….

My sister and I (and some friends) are headed to Ghana this summer. I will write more about it at a later date, but I wanted to share a little today. My sister recently wrote a blog post about her journey to say ‘yes’ to this trip. I was crying and laughing throughout her post. Here is an excerpt from her post,

“My mom took my sister and I out to dinner to celebrate our birthdays. We talked about a little of this, a little of that, laughter, jokes, and then my sister all nonchalantly, said, hey, I’m going to Africa next year. You should go.

Say what?!

My sister was going to Africa.

I feel like I should talk about our childhood when she wanted to be an astronaut. I hated it. I didn’t want her going on a freakin rocket into outer space. I was also a child of the Challenger days. So it was really, really not cool that she wanted to do that.

And now she’s telling me she’s going to Africa! I rather that than a space shuttle but it was still scary.”

That section of her post made me laugh so hard. The rest of the post was a glimpse into her beautiful heart. She is such a talented writer. If you want to read more about our trip and her story you can,  click here

Flying to Ghana and spending 10 days there isn’t cheap. She has so many talented friends that wanted to pitch in to help her with her trip. To help raise funds, she is putting together an auction on Instagram, below is more info:
