capturing us {a challenge to myself}

This is the week of guest posting! Funny how I only do a handful of guests post each year and they all seem to be falling in this week. My friend Kate asked me to share a little something about marriage on her blog. While working on the post, I started looking for pictures of Chris and I to include in the post. I was so bummed to realize how seldom I take pictures of just the two of us. Seldom, as in hardly ever. I have tons of pictures of him, but he is usually with the kids. I have tons of pictures of me, but I am usually with the kids.

I’m challenging myself to capture more of ‘us’. I know most of our pictures will be goofy iPhone selfies, but at this point I’d prefer that to what I have right now. We function as a team all day long. When I am homeschooling, he is working. When I am teaching SnapShops, he has the kids. When I am at Crossfit, he is home. When he is at Crossfit, I’m home, which means one of us is usually in gym clothes and needs a shower. If not, one of us is usually in construction clothes. I guess I’ve just unwittingly let all that keep me from snapping photos of us.

So, I decided to attempt to take at least one photo of just us for the next week. Chris is so easy going, he’ll pretty much agree to anything I ask, so convincing him was easy. Yesterday was attempt #1.

Chris was working on a house project. He asked about stopping to shave or change clothes, but I told him not to worry about it – this is life. As soon as I held the phone out, little hands started popping in the picture. But, again this is our life right now. I imagine there will be a phase where little hands won’t try to ‘mess up’ the shot and our daily routines will be very different.
