my theme is random

Random.

That is how I would describe my blog. I read somewhere once that a blog needs to have a consistent theme and stick with posts only related to that theme.

I would fail a blogging course for so many reasons.

Today’s random posting is on random things we did this week that I snapped photos of because I wanted to remember.

Monday it was beautiful outside. Warm weather. Blue sky. Just beautiful. I took the kids and a friend on a hike in the ‘woods’ near our house. When we got back they were all pumped to build a fort. As soon as they finished, a certain little girl claimed it for herself.

This week we are learning about kinetic and potential energy. I know most of you don’t homeschool, but this was a fun activity I thought you might like trying. Basically you build a catapult out of toilet paper rolls and rubber bands. We didn’t have any rubber bands, but we have 1000s of rainbow loom bands. They worked great too. Here is a link to the tutorial we found. When the 15th paper wad hit me in the head, I did regret this activity a little bit. We also determined that in our house potential energy is transformed to kinetic energy at alarming rates.1.23.14-3

For Christmas my parents got my oldest a pull-up bar – at his request. You know your boys are growing up when they ask for pull-up bars instead of little metal cars. I gave the boys a challenge…on December 31st of this year we will be having a pull-up contest. The three boys and I are all competing against each other. One month in, my 7 year old is my fiercest competition. The other two lack motivation. I will win…I do not lack motivation! Sidenote: the resistance bands really help with training if you can’t do a pull up yet or if you want to do more than you can do on your own. It helps my boys not just give up because they can’t do many pull ups yet.1.23.14-5

And just a little more random to finish this post. Chris and I both work from home. He usually works mornings while I homeschool and then I work in the afternoons…for those that have asked how our work/homeschool schedule looks. Both of us working from home was a really big transition early on – now I treasure it. We don’t know how long this season will last, but we are enjoying it and all the margin it provides for our family. I’ll probably post more about all that one of these days…still processing it a bit. Enjoying it, but processing it too. Anyway, while I am working, one or two of the kids sneaks into the room with me to enjoy the quiet. Yesterday, it was these two.
