Aunt Sandy’s quilt for Little One

Well this weekend was full of random – getting it all in before football season begins. I attended my very first blogger meet-up (more on that later), wallpapered the girls room (more on that later too), and took care of boys that weren’t feeling so hot. I also got to see Little One’s first quilt from my aunt.

I’ve shared about my talented Aunt Sandy before – she’s the incredible quilter. Truth is I come from a long line of quilters, on both sides of my family. Maybe one day I’ll join the family ranks as a quilter, but that day is looking to be in the far, far distance! Aunt Sandy has made my kids so many quilts. They would cost hundreds of dollars if I were to buy them, but since I am her favorite niece she just showers me with her talent. My sister, her second favorite niece, also reaps the benefits.

Sandy made my youngest daughter and Lesley’s youngest daughter their first quilts from her. They are similar, but a little different. She wanted some pictures – so we strung them from my tree.

Fronts and backs of the quilts. When she washes it for the first time, the edges of the flowers will fray.

The quilts are very “Sandy” – colorful, vibrant, wild. She has beat cancer numerous times, used to have a custom color leather chap business and took me to lots of rodeos growing up. I love that her quilts, along with ones from both of my grandmas, fill my home.

The quilts are gorgeous in color, but I like how FireCracker looks with them in black & white.

I have a couple quilts from my great grandmas. I wish I knew more stories about them or the stories of those quilts. I hope I can pass down the stories of my aunt and my grandmas to my kids and that one day they can pass them down to theirs. It is an incredible thing to pour so much time, effort and creativity into something – and then give it away. I want to be that type of generous….but I’ve got to figure out how to do with washi tape instead of a quilter’s needle!
