uni-suits and a cat that was supposed to chase a bird
Costumes…everywhere I look right now people are coming up with the most creative, intricate, detailed costumes.
If costumes were my thing, I might get more into it.
But I can’t sew.
And, I’m cheap.
And the thought of coming up with 5 creative costumes makes me feel overwhelmed and blah.
So, I don’t.
However, I did make FireCracker wings for her birthday. They are probably my most favorite thing I’ve ever made….other than babies. And a friend passed down super cute boots to her…costume ready to go.
We were going to a fall party where dressing up was part of the fun. Fun for kids, not me. Again, I don’t like dressing up. Big ole’ party pooper right here. Anyway, the boys wanted to be superheroes and a ninja. $14.00 on sale at Target. I wasn’t arguing. I told FireCracker she was going to be a bird. If I was taking three boys in stretchy uni-suits, you better believe she would be looking killer cute in her wings. Then I realized how selfish that was on my part. She should dress up however she wants. Not what I pick or what I like. I gave her lots of choices – all the pink sparkly stuff even. To my heart’s delight she wanted to be a bird…as long as her sister was a cat that chased her. Done.
She is utterly baffling to me. Total confidence, spunk, sassy and beauty squeezed into a petite little body.
We attempted a group shot. I love that Little One’s face stays basically the same while everyone else’s changes.
Ironman. My 8 year old is all about technology and using your mind – hence why he likes Ironman.
A Ninja. My 6 year old is all about gloves with no fingertips…which evidently are part of ninja attire.
Thor the Mighty. I tried to get him to wear a wig for Thor’s hair. His response was, “Mommy, when you die I will just cut off your hair and glue it to a hat. You have the same hair as Thor.” I wasn’t sure if I should laugh, be offended or get him counseling.
While the boys were posing, someone was getting smothered with kisses and hugs.
A bird. At least that is my version of one.
A sweet little cat. No smiles coming from her that night. She must be like her mom – not a fan of dressing up.
FireCracker thought if she started clapping, she’d smile – which she usually does.
There used to be a time when I would look at blogs, facebook, pinterest, etc and it would make me feel like I should try and be creative with costumes. One year we did because it was important to the boys. Most years they really don’t care. They just want to get lost in their imaginations. And that is what I want most for them – to be kids having fun. And I want that for me – to be a mom having fun. Not a mom stressed over coming up with some great costume because for me it is stressful. I applaud those of you that enjoy it and do it well because you inspire me to find the things I enjoy and do well with my kids. You doing what you do so well reminds me that I don’t need to do everything, but I want to soar at the things I enjoy.
