cupcake break

We spotted a new cupcake shop and thought we’d stop in for a taste. The original plan was to eat at the little shop, but let’s face it…4 small kids with cupcakes. We thought we’d be nice and take them home so all the crumbs fell in the grass instead of on the clean floor. And…it was a beautiful day. (Little One went down for a nap)

I got a Holiday Spice cupcake. Another reason for taking the cupcakes home was to enjoy mine with coffee. It was a great combo.

I truly enjoy watching FireCracker eat cupcakes. She does not like her hands to get dirty or sticky…she makes me smile. The boys just dig in – total mess.

Photo Tip: On the photo below, do you notice how one eye is in focus and the other is blurry? My aperture was set at f/2.8. This creates a small depth of field (area of a photograph that is in focus). The closer you get to a subject the smaller that depth of field area becomes. She was at an angle to me – meaning one eye was closer to me than the other. Since I was really close to her, the depth of field was so small that it meant one eye was in focus and one eye out of focus. If I had taken one step back, that would have made the depth of field (area that is in focus) larger….and both eyes would have been in focus.

It took her a while to eat it without hands, here is a version I took with my phone and posted on Intsagram

– many thought the cupcake was a turtle at first glance!

Milk to wash it down.

They were a hit. The shop has a butter pecan cupcake with maple cheesecake frosting and bacon on it. You can’t go wrong with maple and bacon. I’m trying that one next. If you stop in for a cupcake, make sure to go across the street to Southern Hospitality – my favorite antique shop!

Welcome October….one of the best months!
