studio progress…moving slowly - Ashley Ann Campbell

studio progress…moving slowly

Today marks two weeks waiting for our Travel Approval. I was so confident it was going to come yesterday. It didn’t. Maybe today is the day?

Anyway.

We are still plugging away on the studio. Our original goal was to have it finished at the end of May. Then it got moved to the end of June. Then the end of July. Now we are just hoping the main elements are done before we head out of the country! Progress is slow when you can only really work on the weekends. The drywall was finished a couple of weeks ago and then we moved onto painting. The main color of the room is call “Clean & Crisp”…AKA “white”.  Years ago I tore out a kitchen I liked from BluePrint magazine. I’m using the same color for my cabinets (Benjamin Moore “Antigua Sky”). I am also going to use Benjamin Moore “Salsa” for an accent wall.

Chris bought a paint sprayer to help with all the painting. I was smart enough not to wear a hat. Nonetheless, can you believe that all came out with one normal wash? Crazy. Sidenote: Have you watched Julie’s vlog about Clear? If you haven’t, you should. So funny. I really like Julie. I’m glad latex paint comes out easier than Clear.

My grandpa built us scaffolding to use during construction. I have no idea how we would have done the high work without it. When we are done he is going to take it apart and build us another picnic table. Thanks Grandpa!

This week’s evening project will be sanding down the stairs and sealing them. Then I think we’ll be at a point to start really cleaning everything and doing final installation of things.

The downside of contracting out some work and doing a lot on your own…takes a long time to get it all done. The upside is you get to learn a lot of new skills. My dad taught me how to install cabinets over the weekend. I thought you just put them in place and attach them to studs. Nope. There is a lot more to it…like drilling wire holes, anchoring them together, using shims to get it all level, etc.. Now I know.

And I’ve also learned there is a reason most people wear work boots when on construction jobs. My toenails are a delicate mix of Clean & Crisp, Antigua Sky, and OPI purple. Not that most construction workers need to protect their OPI purple toenails though.

Here are a few inspiration images I’ve pinned for when we are ready to start filling the space:
