ode to my trampoline - Ashley Ann Campbell

ode to my trampoline

Pediatricians love to hate you.

You make grandparents worry.

ER doctors place blame on you.

So many don’t understand you.

But I do.

I will go to bat for you.

I have your back.

I’ll proudly wear my “Team Trampoline” shirt for you.

If you are one of those that cringe at the site of a trampoline, you might want to stop reading. I’ve been a trampoline fan since as long as I can remember. I grew up with one in my backyard. I have more personal injury stories related to my trampoline adventures than most people do. But…every injury was totally worth it. For instance, in high school I stood on a deck railing about 6 feet above our trampoline. I jumped off with the intention of landing and doing a front flip. Plan failed. Nose dive into the grass. Gnarled up face and a hairline fractured wrist. But once the wrist healed, I tried it again. And nailed that flip. The teenagers would call it an “epic” flip. It was.

So, yeah I get that some people are worried about the potential risks of trampolines. I’m a walking example of trampoline injuries. However, I have a life time full of great trampoline memories. And I cherish all the hours of fun and exercise my family has on ours now.

I used my Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM for all of these pictures.

I’m always working on straddle jumps, tuck jumps and pike jumps with them. If you are wondering who still holds the title of Best Straddle Jumper in our house…it is me. That promise I made to myself in elementary school to never lose my splits has paid off. 🙂

This one makes me laugh…when you can’t get away from your little brothers, just lick them.
