my birthday present
In June, I decided to paint part of our stairs white for a Mpix ad. Well, it is October. I have delayed and delayed finishing the stairs. The carpet on the stairs drives me crazy so I wasn’t motivated to finish painting. I forced myself not to start any new house projects until I finished the stairs…which means no projects going on here since June. Chris made a comment last week about how odd it was that it had been so long since I had painted a room or done some remodel. I told him my self imposed rule not to start anything until I finished the stairs. Then I reminded him how much I didn’t like the carpet and as a result knew even with fresh paint I still wouldn’t like the stairs…so I had no motivation to finish painting.
I decided to be a big girl and finish the painting so I could finally do something else. I had two little ones helping me clean things before painting. See those pictures on the landing? The holes got bigger from boys crashing on the stairs, so the pictures have been sitting there…needing holes filled and paint touched up. I wanted white walls not yellow, so again wasn’t too motivated to fix it.
The day before my birthday, Chris came home to find me grudgingly taping off the carpet. He asked if I would like to tear out the carpet for my birthday. I think within 2 minutes of him asking I pulled up the tape and tore out the carpet on the first step…before he had a chance to take back his words.
The next day he came home to find the entry way, the stairwell and the upstairs landing with a coat of fresh white paint. I told him if he gave me an inch, I’d take a mile. He reminded me that is typically how I roll. I mean really, it only makes sense to do painting when carpet is gone. Granted, 4 years ago when I painted the stairwell yellow, I promised not to repaint for at least 7 years. At least I made it past the halfway mark. That is progress!
So, we’ve got some remodeling going on. Right now I’m just painting walls…goodbye chalkboard & yellow paint. Hello “fresh & crisp” white.
I pinned some ideas on my pinterest boards for stair inspiration. I still have not decided exactly what I am going to do, but here are some I like….now some of these would never work in a house with small children…or teenagers, but I like them nonetheless. A girl can dream.

Now if I could figure out a way to for meals to create themselves, laundry to put itself up and the dishes to stay clean…then I could actually finish all that I started!
