Funny that just yesterday I posted about how the session side of my photography business is on hold and then today I post a session. Figures it would work that way. I have been anxiously awaiting when I could post this session. We did it in May, but had to wait until after the wedding to post some. Christi was my first bride to opt for a downtown setting…we did some at a park too. It was so much fun – ideal setting, great lighting, a fun & gorgeous bride. Almost makes me want to start booking weddings again…almost, but not quite
Congratulations Christi (& Shane)!
Christi wanted a bit of a vintage look to the post processing – did I say how great she was! This first one she ordered a large gallery wrap canvas of. It was stunning.
What you don’t see in the picture above is the strange man sitting on stairs behind me making comments about how gorgeous Christi was…we left that spot pretty quickly. Christi, I bet you won’t forget that part of the session
Rebekah Jean-Fantastic…I bet she loved these! The new blog theme is amazing too…..love the look and the concept!
Kristin White -Looking at these pictures makes me want to get married again (to my husband of course) just to have you take our pictures! Love the new website too!
Leisha -Your blog is beautiful! I can’t get over the wonderful pictures of the family at the top. (The bride was gorgeous too) Very creative photos-I’m loving it.
Christi Bjornberg -Ashley, I have fallen in love with the pictures all over again! Thank you so much! They are just BEAUTIFUL!
Christi Bjornberg
Angie -Beautiful! I’m so blessed to have Christi as my sister-in-law!
Wow…choosing a name for our daughter was so much harder than the boys. Name meaning/signifcance is important to us. We look forward to the days in the future when we can tell our kids why they received the names they did and why we pray certain things over them. With that said, I would like to share with you about our daughter’s name. Breese (Reese with a b…not “Breeze”) was my grandmother’s maiden name. If you knew my grandma, you knew she was a firecracker of a woman. Small in stature and big in presence. She was deeply committed to and loved her family. She was simple, liked simple things and could make one killer blackberry cobbler. I’ve spent most Saturday nights (from childhood to the present) at her home – gathered with my loud and fun family. She LOVED my boys and lit up when they would barrel through the door. Grandma passed away on Mother’s Day 2008, she never got to meet a great-granddaughter. I can only imagine the joy she would have had to see little Breese with a big ole’ bow on her head. A couple of months ago my grandpa mentioned how happy grandma would have been to meet my daughter. Then he asked when she was due. When I told him “July”, he responded, “I knew it. She’s going to be your firecracker.” We pray that in many ways she would grow up to be a bit of a firecracker that deeply loves her family, is committed and loyal to those she is around, that she would appreciate the simpicities of life and that she would leave a strong legacy behind her.
Breese’s middle name is Finley…which means “fair warrior”. For obvious reasons “fair warrior” is a great meaning for a girl with three big brothers. We love this name for many other reasons. We pray that she would be a warrior for those that can’t fight for themselves, a voice for those who can’t be a voice for themselves…one who is not afraid to defend the defenseless and is willing to give of herself to fight battles so much greater than she is….that she would make an eternal difference. While doing all that we pray she is “fair” in the sense of feminine. That she can embrace and appreciate the uniquely feminie way God created her and placed her in a home with big brothers that she will likely want to imitate. We look forward to the breath of ‘fair and girly’ air she brings to our family….
And, of course, a few pictures from the hospital….
This one just cracks me up…looks like she already picked up some mad karate skills from her brother.
When we put the dress on her she was not too happy about it. Then once the flower hat went on, she was totally good. I guess she is a hat girl.
For those wondering why we are just now sharing her name, it was important to me that I get to tell my grandpa her name. I didn’t want it to get back to him, so I waited to post it online. We drove straight from the hospital to his house. Naturally (and perfectly) we found him in his favorite place – outside in his garden. This is me introducing Breese to him…
For obvious reasons I won’t be doing daily posts for a while, but I’ll still be posting…..

He also asked me if you told me that he had big ole tears in his eyes when you intorduced him to Breese. There are so many things I love about photography, but probably the biggest is getting to meet incredible families and individuals….and getting to do special things for them. I met Trinity back in college. We actually were suite mates my sophomore year, but hadn’t seen eachother since. A year or so ago we ran into eachother at a pumpkin patch. Long story short it was my honor to photograph Trinity, her sister and their daughters. I can’t do justice to the story, so I asked Trinity to tell it briefly…..BEAUTIFUL!
“Autumn and I started out to do foster care and foster care only. We were 2 single girls who love kids and we didn’t want to wait to get married to start to make a difference in the world. We got M first and the goal was to get her back with her sisters and parents. Our job, whether we had her for a day or a year, was to equip her with the tools to survive when she went back home. Circumstances changed and through the next 2 1/2 years, we got M’s sisters one by one….H, A, and S The state also changed the goal to adoption. It wasn’t just that we got attached to the girls, but the Lord changed our hearts. He told us clearly that our job was not to just equip them for the next home, but to make our home their “forever home”. We also got the privlege to have 7 other children in our home….some for 24 hours and some for 11 months. People say that our girls are so lucky to have us, but we are the truly blessed ones. As you can imagine, with a house full of 6 girls, we have the most fun…tea parties when we want, manicures when we want, dresses, dance parties in the kitchen, lots of shopping…as well as the most mood swings EVER! Two single people can’t adopt together, so we each adopted 2. To answer the question that everyone is thinking….what happens if you get married?……..WE DON’T KNOW! What we DO know is…the Lord didn’t bring us this far to just drop us off! This is what obedience means for us right now, and He is totally in control of our future! “
Because it makes me laugh…an “outtake”
I want to thank the D family for letting me come out to their beautiful land for this special session….THANK YOU!
On a similar note, I would love to point anyone interested to a blog related to Orphan care/adoption/foster care….
This is the blog header….notice the 3 cute guys on the right (an old pic)
Marina -Awesome pics Ashley. Trin and Autumn…you truly ARE blessed. Your daughters are gorgeous and the Father shines through them!!! I can’t wait to meet them!!!
Natasha Perryman-You know one of my favorite things in the world is seeing a unique family. All families are only built by the Lord and I love it when He breaks away from what people consider “normal” and builds a beautiful family!!!
Thank you for letting them share their story. What precious girls (and I loved their dresses).
I also checked out the blog and added it to my google reader. I know the Horton family and they never cease to inspire. I look forward to watching their little video on the blog. And everything else adoption-wise the blog has to share.
Have a creative day! : )
Natasha
Shanalea-Autumn and Trinity, amazing!!! I love to see how God has used you to show God’s love to 4 little girls who needed to see that. WOW!
Charissa-That story and those pictures have me in tears. I LOVE people like this!! Thank God for people like this!! I’m so glad you shared it. Thanks for putting a link to the Adopt(ed) page. I’d love to share their story on their as well if that’s OK.
Shannon Phillips-How incredibly beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing this story. Trinity and Autumn thank you for being faithful and bringing a little bit of heaven to earth with your love.
Christina Larsen -What a beautiful family. I love that story; may God continue to bless them as those beautiful girls grow up to be wonderful women like the women who adopted them. Thanks for sharing this story.
Trinity -Ashley….Thank you SO MUCH! I was at camp all morning and didn’t check your blog til just now. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the pictures. I am still in awe of God’s love and that he chose Autumn and I for these girls! THANK YOU! I hope this helps people get involved in foster/adoption/orphan care in any way!
Trinity
Molly (Murphy) Shockley-Seriously Ashley! These are incredible pictures and it makes me want you to photograph our family so bad! The story is incredible and I thank you for yet again being a positive voice and reminder for adoption!
Trinity -I love the adopt(ed) blog…add it to my favorites. It is so amazing to see different stories of adoption. Yes, charissa, it is fine to share our story…let me know if I need to do anything.
Kara -Thanks for posting! I told Trin a few months back that someone HAD to tell their story…it was just too good to go untold! Thank you!
Jamie Dickerson-As an adoptive mama, this greatly blessed my heart. Every adoption story is unique and beautiful and this one is truly sweet. As someone who had the privilege to know Trinity and Autumn for a short time, I am not even the least bit surprised at the direction God has taken them in life. Ashley, thanks for sharing their story.
Jeannette Swan -Oh my, what an amazing family and story…I love it. And, what beautiful pictures of all those girls!!
Jeannette
bopha -What a great story and what great pictures. Those girls are beautiful!
Valerie-Could you share where to find the Adopt(ed) t-shirts? My son is from Guatemala, and my husband and I would love to get all three of us t-shirts!
Rachel -What an amazing family! I love the how adoption is such a picture of what Christ does for all of us.
Well go ahead and grab your Monday morning cup of coffee…this is going to be a long post. My wedding season has come and gone as the rest of the wedding photography world is just gearing up. It was bittersweet to shoot my last wedding for what could be a very long while. I couldn’t have ended with a better day of celebration. The rain tempted planners to move the ceremony inside and I held out with hope we’d have it outdoors. Turned out to be the best lighting for me, but a tad bit of rain on guests…it was beautiful.
Just a couple of notes in regards to the planning aspect of the day:
And onto the pictures: A few detail shots – so much goes into planning the details it is a shame not to have pictures! The groom’s cake was the most delicious looking pile of chocolate chip cookies I have ever seen. Really…if anyone would like to bring me some of those in the hospital when little one arrives I’ll be most appreciative!
A couple of preparation details – more pics in the slideshow at the end of the post
Morgan & her girls….& the stunning flowers. The flowers were out of this world beautiful!
Brian & his guys…whom have all served our country in the military. Thank you.
Not much but mist most of the day. As the ceremony began, the sprinkles began and the umbrellas came out.
This sequence kills me. I am already dreading (but excited about) this moment with each of my boys…that last hug before they become husbands. It will be beautifully sad. Then it is onto Brian – a groom waiting for his bride. Finally, Morgan beaming while being escorted by her father (who is looking up at the rain drops that began falling as she took her first step down the aisle).
And finally some shots of the couple….I am going to miss getting to shoot moments like these.
And now a short (60 sec) slideshow of a few more from the day:
On a final little note, I want to thank my husband Chris for shooting so many weddings with me over the last few years. He doesn’t get much recognition, but always keeps me sane during the craziness of weddings. He also always gets lots of great shots and I can depend on him to be where I am not. Many of the pictures in the slideshow are his, but here are a few more of my favorites that Chris took from this wedding:
My guy (obviously I took this one, he did the rest)
Isn’t this a fantastic shot?! If it were my little guy, I would blow it up huge somewhere in my house. So cute.
Since it was my last wedding, I asked him to get a few of me at work…
Morgan -Ashley, these are amazing. Brian and I appreciate the love the you put into this! You and Chris were perfect to work with, and we cannot thank you enough for capturing the true essence of the day.
Chelsea -Congratulations again Morgan and Brian. Absolutely beautiful pictures and every single one of them shows what true love looks like. I wish you two the best of luck in your journey together. Keep in touch.
Love always,
Chelsea
Rachel -Ash — the pictures are absolutely beautiful! As some chapters close and others open, I can’t wait to see all God has in store for your amazing gifts of beauty, creativity and love. Well done.
Christina Larsen -How bittersweet for you. Looked like it was a beautiful ceremony, as always, love your pictures. Enjoy your hiatus, hopefully it isn’t forever.
meg duerksen-ASHLEY!!!!!

Love, Andrea and Gary
Shelly Blake -WOW! Ashley & Chris…AMAZING shots! Most impressed you guys! I’m sad it’s your last for a while, too, but so happy of the priority of family! God bless you and your family!
As to Brian and Morgan, I love you guys so much and look forward to our trips to Red River together!! YAY!
Morgan, we welcome you with open arms into our family!
Brian, well, I just love you too much and can’t say much more without welling up. :OP Remember Ephesians 5:22-23.
Jenn G. -Ash – these are all amazing and beautiful. You definitely ended well… very, very well. And as Rach said, I can’t wait to see how God is going to use this insane talent of yours next… You are such an incredible photographer and have blessed so many of us over the past three years. Thank you, friend.
mary -morgan – i love you and think your day was beautiful. thanks for one more family wedding!!! And I really loved Brian’s family. I hope to get to know brian more soon. Don’t for Univ of Colorado PA school!
Ashley – you are amazing! Maybe you shouldn’t quit shooting weddings??? And that little guy picking flowers is mine. Could you email me prices for a 11×14. My mom and I both want one. I know you took a bunch of Kate (my daughter), where might I find those????
mary ashley voelmle
Linzy -Amazing pictures! So blessed to be a part of your special day!
Disa Beaty -Wow! These pictures are fabulous.
Katie H. -As always BEAUTIFUL pics. I envy every single couple who were lucky enough to have you as their wedding photographer. “If I had only known.” Note to self….Contact Chris as a possible photographer replacement since we lost ours.
I had the honor of shooting Brian & Morgan’s wedding over the weekend, so I am now able to share some of her bridal portraits. We originally had this session scheduled for the night the blizzard hit Tulsa…glad we postponed for better weather. Check back next week for the wedding!
Jeff and Tabitha’s wedding took place the evening before Valentines at The Church at BattleCreek. The day went so smoothly and Tabitha was the picture of calmness. It was fun for me to ‘get back in the game’ of wedding photography. This is a long post….I’ll start with some pictures from throughout the day and end with a slideshow for those of you that want to see more.
Getting ready at Ulta…
With her niece…also the flower girl. Way back in the day (like 16 months or so ago) I did her newborn pictures.
I just really like her face in this one….
Just minutes before the ceremony started…
Squeezing in a few couple shots before heading to the reception…
First dance as husband and wife… (to give credit where it’s due. – this is Chris’ shot )
Earlier in the morning Jeff wrote a beautiful song for Tabitha and surprised her with a performance at the reception. Here she is listening with her mom…
And the slideshow…the reception took place in the Kids Club Theatre…
To begin the slideshow click on the white button in the middle (it’s a bit hard to see)
Thanks for asking us to be a part of your incredible day! – Chris & Ashley
Jeannette Swan -How awesome!! These pictures are priceless. I’m crying just looking at them.
Sarah -Ashley, these are beautiful pictures. I want to have another wedding with Travis just so you can take our pictures!
Lauren Roberts -These are so beautiful. The bride was stunning!
bopha -What a beautiful wedding, they look hopelessly in love. Congrats, and I’m sorry that we couldn’t make it.
Terri -Oh goodness. I can tell already I’m going to have a hard time picking my favs for the mom book that I want to get! Isn’t it funny how few guys were there for the garter throw as compared to the girls for the bouquet? I never did find out who caught it.
Susan Cloer -Ashley, you are radiant! I haven’t seen such a gorgeous bridal gown other than on a hollywood star! What a lovely wedding it must have been. I am so happy for both of you.
Susan
Marcia -You look hot, Tabitha! What a beautiful wedding! God bless you both!
Jeff and Tabbee’s wedding took place in the evening inside, so before the sun went down we rushed to get the final beautiful light coming in for some images just of the bride….I’m thinking Jeff is going to like these.
If all goes as planned, come back Monday for the wedding post….
Rachel -Wow! Georgous, georgous, georgous pictures!! The first picture really took my breath away. Would it be creepy if I wanted to dig out my veil and wedding dress and pretend like I was getting married again, so you could take my pictures?
Lauren Roberts -Absolutely beautiful!
Shannon Phillips-So Beautiful! Can’t wait to see the whole wedding!
AshleyAnn -Rachel wins for my favorite blog comments! Not creepy at all Rach (though that cracked me up), I think we should do it!
bopha -Rachel, you are hilarious, please do it, we won’t judge you!
Katie H. -AMAZING pics! Your work makes me wish I could do it all again and have you as our photographer.
Terri -Beautiful!! Can’t wait to see the rest of my “baby” and new son!
Jesse Reich-Ashley, Way to start the year. The images look wonderful, as expected. Great job!
Last weekend I had my first wedding of the year…it did make me a little sad that I have decided to only shoot two weddings this year. I am going to miss them, but I am banking on a sweet baby girl in my arms to make any sadness disappear! Typically I don’t go to rehearsals, but I wanted to check out the lighting for this one. I am so glad I went. I love the pictures above. At the end of the rehearsal they had a time of prayer for the couple…the hands on the left belong to the bride and the mother of the groom. Priceless. Stay tuned for pictures of the bride later this week and wedding pictures next week….
When this family stepped out of the car the first thing I noticed was their great outfits…I loved that their mom coordinated the outfits but let each kid’s personality show in what they chose to wear. Very cool. As you can tell by the pictures they are quite a photogenic family…
Can you believe she is in middle school….gorgeous.
I think this is such a fun sibling picture…little stud on the side.
I love her smile in this one…
Chris-Love the pictures guys, your kids are beautiful and the one of you both is absolutely amazing. I wish I had a big canvas of Ash and I like that in my office!
Lesley-Love the one with Sydney in the hat and Presley’s close-up. I agree with Chris on the couple shot, beautiful.
julie -I love the pictures and can’t wait to see the rest. You really have a gift Ashley, thanks for sharing it with us!!
Laura-Ashley, your work is breath taking! Do you mind sharing where you took these pictures. I love the setting. Not to mention the Wise’ look pretty amazing too!
Kendi -I love this area! I recently shot some senior portraits here and it is just perfect!! Really my favorite area right now!
AshleyAnn -Laura, these are all in the Blue Dome district of downtown Tulsa…
Laura-Thanks Ashley, I thought it might be downtown somewhere. You are definitely talented!!
