shopping in your pjs {my reader’s stores}

So I had this idea that I would make a page on my blog dedicated to the etsy stores of my readers….I had NO IDEA there were so many of you talented readers with etsy stores! I had fun looking through your stores. Below is an image of what the new etsy store page looks like. You can find it under the “info” tab as the page titled “shopping in your pjs“. Once on the page, just click on the store banner to be taken to that store.

I also want to feature an item from each of the stores. Etsy will only let me create one of these for 25 items, so it will take me a while to get through all the stores. I plan on updating this once a week until I have featured them all.

If you are a reader and would like to be included, leave a link to your store in the comment section.

If you store currently does not have a banner, I just listed those at the end of the page. Once you get a banner, let me know. Enjoy shopping!

baby’s got a new blanket {LeytonSmiles}

UPDATE: CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. The last counting comment is Allison’s.

Baby Sister loved to be swaddled.

I saw this ADORABLE swaddle blanket and thought we’d give it a try again. The blanket was just so soft and cute.

She didn’t like it. Good thing it’s not for her. It’s for her SisterCousin. What you ask is a SisterCousin? It is a sister you get to grow up with but doesn’t live in your house so you don’t have to worry about her messing with your stuff. In other words…MY LITTLE SISTER IS HAVING A BABY!

MY LITTLE SISTER IS HAVING A BABY GIRL!

MY NIECE AND DAUGHTER WILL BE A YEAR APART!

MY LITTLE SISTER IS HAVING A BABY GIRL!

I can’t even begin to put into words how excited I am. I am giddy. I can’t wait. I am beaming as I type this. I hope I get to babysit all the time. I wonder if my mom will babysit my kids so I can watch my niece. Probably not. I just can’t wait….I am seriously beyond gone with anticipation and excitement. I’ve been told that “Aunt Ashley” is too hard to say. So right now I am leaning towards, “Most Beautiful Princess of Awesomeness”. I think it will roll off her tongue quite nicely.

Since it is always fun to give something away too…the etsy seller, LeytonSmiles, that made my neice’s blanket is giving one away to you too!

Contest Details:

Prize: 1 swaddle blanket from Leyton Smiles

Contest ends Saturday, March 6th, 2010 9:30pm US Central

Winner chosen at random

Enter by: Tell me something fun you did with your aunt growing up, something you do as an aunt now or offer a suggestion for what my niece could call me….or just leave a general comment.

raychel - Growing up, my dad’s sister would take each neice and each nephew in groups of girls and boys and take us on special day trips. Cananda’s Wonderland, the Drive in Theatre, the pool, camping etc. etc. Such amazing memories I will never forget!
As an aunt now I spoil my neices and nephews by buying them cute stuff off etsy (those beanie hats from zjohnson??!! ADORABLE!), and when they get a bit older I plan to do what my aunt did. Take them out for great childhood memories!!

Christy - Cute blankets!
My aunt was so cool. She took me to see a New Kids on the block concert when I was little. It was awesome!
Your niece called call you Aunt Ashy :)

Liz - I have a super special place in my heart for my auntie. She is just the best and is the most wonderful person on this earth. She, only having boys chose me to be “her daughter”. She spoiled me and did all the wonderful mommy and daughter she would otherwise. This was not at the expense of her sons, because she is just that awesome! I was one of 3 girls, so my mom “shared” me.

To this day my aunt and I have an amazing bond!

So congrats on being an auntie to a niece! How amazing! You’ll be a good one. Look at what a good mommy you are!

MelissaM - My aunt was the coolest! She didn’t have kids when I was little so she did all the fun things with me-took me roller skating, to Disney movies at the theatre (I don’t remember my parents ever taking me-Oh wait! Except for the opening night of Empire Strikes Back with my dad!), swimming, and most importantly, always gave me LOTS OF CANDY!!!! I LOVED spending time with my Aunt Becky! She also took me on walks in a wagon (which was quite an adventure for me) and would let me dance around to her aerobics videos while she exercised. :) Oh yea, and we would rock out to “Celebrate” in the car running errands. Good times. :)

chrissy - we moved 1,000 miles to be near my husband’s brother and his wife and 3 kids ages 4, 3, and 2~ we love it and so do our kiddo’s. every friday night the kids either stay at our house or theirs so the parents can have a date night… and so we can enjoy our nieces and nephews. it’s so fun and the highlight of the kids week :)

Alba - Congratulations! I also want to be called “tieta Alba” (aunt Alba), but no chance at the moment.
In regard on your comment, not my aunt, but yes my oncle, he teached me how to swim, and to snorkel and to dive. He always had a moment for us, and he still has it. And now he is the best babysitter in the world when my kids are sick and have to stay at home. Gràcies per tot el què ens has donat, tiet Gervasi!

Mandy - the best thing about my aunts – the kids that came with them – gotta love cousins!!

Tammy Kay - My lovely very mean aunt who I have a ton of respect for now but she scared me to death when I was a little one used to say, “I’m gonna jerk a knot in your tail!” anytime someone did something wrong! I was scared of that woman and to this day I still make sure I have good posture when I am around her and all my children are on their best behavior. Because if they weren’t on their best behavior I would jerk a knot in their tails! Just goes to show you…never say never!
I would love the baby blanket. My little girl is due in June!

Allison - My aunt sold Mary Kay products, so she would make me over in Mary Kay. It was so much fun. I am also an aunt. And for my niece, it’s too hard for her to say Aunt so she calls us TeTe. I think its going to stick! I love being an aunt, it is so fun to spoil and play with them! Can’t wait for it to be my turn to be a mom though.

Rachel C - Congratulations Lesley!! I can’t wait to meet your sweet baby girl! I love the term sistercousin. Very sweet.

Kirsten - My aunt, who passed away a few years ago, was by far the coolest aunt for a little girl. She was the aunt that let me paint my nails electric blue and wear makeup on sleepover at her house when my mom said NO nail polish or glitter lipstick, you’re still a baby (even if i wasnt). I am one of the first to be having a baby (this August)out of my circle of friends and I know Aunty Pooh (my best friend) will be the greatest aunty ever. She is, I think, more excited then I am, ha! :P

Ashley Dougherty - We would go swimming at my aunt’s house a lot in the summer & I always remember how loving she was….always had the best drinks & snacks for us – after a long day of swimming we were always worn out! This blanket would be perfect for my baby girl due in July! :)

Kate - My Aunt Jeanie was the funniest, craziest aunt. I loved her. We could be cooking a cake one minute and digging mud holes in her garden the next. She was always up for an adventure, never minded making a mess and loved on me like I was her own. I secretly hope that is what my nephew thinks about me now :)

ashlee - oh my aunt is amazing! the was a kindergarten teacher for 30 years in B.A. and she does everything fun! making things, leaving her tree up for 6 months, signing birthday cards from her dog…I love her to pieces! p.s. those blankets are too cute!!

Andy - i have a nephew and a niece and they are so much fun. i love to read to my niece. she loves it too.

Shanalea - So I feel the exact same way, my sister in law is prego and I can hardly wait- she is having a boy (no worries the hat is finding a girl home) which makes me even more excited because my youngest and her oldest will be 9 months apart. I don’t know what to think about being an aunt though. It should be different. I am kind of like you. Will she watch my kids and I will take hers for the day?

Jessica - I absolutely LOVE being an aunt!!!! It is almost as wonderful as being a mother. My nieces and nephews are absolutely adorable, and wonderful; we have special “cousin” nights for each of them (5) where we choose a special day for them to come spend the night and we go all out on their favorite things: chuckee chesse is often requested, batting cages for my oldest nephew, all things princess, tea party, nails and hair with the girls!!! It is a BLAST and a special way for us to get one on one bonding with each one. :) My daughter also has a SISTERcousin and their relationship is just precious! They are 2 months apart to the day. You will have so much fun being an aunt!!! Congrats.

Courtney - I have many special aunts…but my mom’s sister has always been my extra special auntie. I can remember being a little girl coming to visit her in the big city, and she would have made a whole boat load of frilly dresses and headbands for me!

Kara - Finally something I know a little about! Just got to spend some lovely time with my beautiful niece. Biggest advice I can give is…remember nieces ALWAYS deserve presents.

Amanda Mc - Cute blankets!! And congrats on your niece! In Hindi there are different names for maternal and paternal aunts and uncles, and even for whether they are younger or older, gets confusing! Anyway… the name for mother’s sister is “Masi.” I’ve always liked that one.

janie - How about LeeLee from your name Ash(ley) My daughter had a hard time saying her brother’s name Caleb so she called him LaLa for the longest time. We still call him that sometimes!

Candy Foster - My dad came from a close-knit family of eight. I grew up surrounded my a host of aunts and uncles who loved me unconditionally & treated me just like their own kids or grandkids. Just recently, my aunt Katherine lost her battle with cancer. So this entry is in her honor. What she taught me was this: always stand for Jesus. <3

Jill - my aunt always got me the best birthday gifts but the funny part was it was always months late almost in time for the next holiday. either way i always cherished and loved her gifts no matter how many months late they were.

Samantha - OOhh! Congrats!!! I seriously cannot. wait. to be an aunt… but my sisters need to get married first. One of my aunts, we were very close with – she practically grew up with us! Once she got married, she lived a couple of blocks down the street from us, so we saw her often. We stayed the night with her {especially when her husband was at the fire station, to keep her company} and when we got older, we raided her closet. She is only about 13 years older than me… and even now, we’re close! And, we actually treat her daughter {about to turn 16!oh my!} like she did us… like a sister!

katie - oooh congrats to your sis – so exciting! I am an aunt of 5 little girls, ages 2-6, with none of my own yet, and I always make a point to wear lots of “fancy” stuff when I see them. They all love to check out my tall boots, high heels, sparkly buttons, dangly earrings, curly hair, and bangle bracelets that their moms are usually too busy to put on!

Karla - My daughter was just talking about my sister – her aunt – this morning. She’s a teacher and every year before she starts school, she takes my daughter for a day to her school to help her get her room organized. My daughter loves this time with her and was saying this morning how she just can’t wait until August so she can go with Anna to her school again!

Cristina C - I love your blog Ashley! I dont have any kids yet, and i’m not an aunt yet, but I admire your beautiful family! My Dad’s side had 7 children, so I grew up around lots of cousins, aunts and uncles. My Dad’s youngest sister just lost her 10 year battle with Breast Cancer a year ago this March. She was very special to me. I have 2 cousins that are due in a couple months, I would love to share one of those lovely blankets with them! You should have your niece call you Auntie A. :)

Trinity - First of all this post made me laugh so hard because sister cousin has a whole different meaning in our house!!! I am super close with all of my aunts, and I am super close to my nephew. I LOVE being an aunt. So, I think you can try to get the baby to call you whatever you want, but the truth is, whatever comes out of their cute little mouth will be the sweetest thing EVER! My nephew calls me TT. Hopefully when he asks for his TT people won’t think he needs to go to the bathroom! Oh well…it is the sweetest thing when he wants his TT!

Cara L - how exciting! my sister is just as ecstatic to be an aunt to my baby in september! one of my favorite memories with my aunt was getting to spend a week with her at her beach house in california. i felt so grown up and loved every second!

jen - When my sister’s twins were little I started singing them a song that goes, ‘baby shark doo doo doo doo da doo, baby shark.’ I was an instant hit. As they began to string sounds together one of the first things they said was doo doo doo begging for me to sing this song with them. i couldn’t have been prouder until eventually we all began to realize that they were calling ME doo doo. At 5 years old, doo doo is still what they call me. Unfortunate, verrrry unfortunate.

Karen - My daddy had two sisters-one older, one younger-that never married. Every year on our birthdays they would take us to Memphis, TN –about an hour away–as our present. We would get a gift and get to eat where ever we wanted. We also got to take one of the other cousins with us. We spent the whole day there. I love that memory. It was such a big deal to get to go to Memphis. That memory always makes me smile!
Congratulations on the niece. My little brother and his wife just found out that they were expecting their first. We are so happy!!!!

Michele V. - My mom and sisters take off for a girls’ weekend at least once a year with my favorite aunt and a few cousins. We always find a neat little town to antique shop, eat, and just enjoy each other. There is always lots of great stories and lots of laughing.

Bethany - Hi! So I am coming out of the shadows to enter this giveaway! I only just started following along after Christmas. I was home for the holidays (KS) and saw your link bookmarked on my mom’s computer and clicked over! So glad I did!

I love the realness of your blog. Your projects. Your photos. Your words! It is such a happy, happy place!!

Thanks for sharing and inspiring! Happy Friday!

mrs doodle - Those pictures are so funny! And congrats on becoming an aunt… I don’t think my brother or BIL will ever have kids so I can be an aunt:( So yea for you!

I had one aunt that has always been single and we always got to spend a lot of time with her. She always lived at cool places too! We went to the beach a lot and to yummy restaurants!

Jill - My aunts gave me lots and lots of cousins to play with! Yay!

Erin - How fortunate is SisterCousin that she has an Aunt that lives so close!

Emily Lusk - Congratulations to you and your sister!! I am sure the girls will love growing up together! I am sure you are going to be a great Aunt! You should get the blanket monogrammed with “I Love My Aunt” on it!! Jason’s mom has a monogramming shop (Yvonne’s Monograms) at 131st and Elm and will give you a great price! :)

My Aunt Karen was a very special person in my life! She would do all kinds of stuff with us when we visited. She would make the BEST no bake cookies!! They are still my favorite cookies to this day! When me and my sister were in college she would always send us care packages and as you know getting a package in college just makes your day! I always loved opening them and seeing what special treasures she put in there!! Sadly my Aunt lost her battle with Cancer and passed away in 2002. My sister and I learned a great deal from her and learned how to be great Aunts to our nieces and nephews just like she was to us!

I am excited that this Wed I get to go and welcome my 5th niece or nephew into the world!! (they don’t know what they are having)
Congratulations on becoming an Aunt!!

Bree - My aunt used to come visit and take us to Celebration Station, its was always so fun. I remember one time I was in the batting cages for the first time and the ball hit my finger and broke it. My aunt went nuts, she was worried my parents wouldnt let her take us anymore. I am about to be a AuntCousin, my cousin is having a baby boy and since were so close it will be like my nephew (since my brother isnt having kids). I’m so happy, i cant wait to meet him and play with him.

AllieH - My aunt and I did everything together, she is the coolest lady ever! Now that mu husband and I are finishing up a family of our own, my next desire is to be an aunt. I have 2 beautiful sisters-in-love that will hopefully fulfill my wish VERY soon!

Ryan - I seriously laughed out loud at the part about you asking your Mom to watch your kids so you ca babysit the new baby. You crack me up! :)

I’m very excited for you! What a blessing.

Anna Joy - My favorite thing to do with Aunt now is play Scrabble. We play every time we see each other and even when we can’t see each other, we have to play online! I love it!

Congrats on the sistercousin! I love sister cousins :) . I am not an aunt but my best friend is my “sister from another mister” so for fun we made thought we would have my son call her DeeDee even though her name is Lee. Why don’t you make a completely different name just for your niece to call you? My aunt has my son call her Nanny. Very traditional but she loves it.

Sherry - One of my many aunts on my dad’s side used to always go to flea markets and buy stuff that she collected like old blue glass and jewelry. I was probably about 6 or 7 when I would go to her house and we would load up in the car and head to the flea market. I think that’s where I get my love for flea markets and antique stores, also from my parents who have always love those as well.

Oh, and I call my only nephew my monkey :)

Carol - Since I’m the Nana, I get to babysit first but I can watch your kids and my new little granddaughter at the same time. The more the merrier!!! I had a special aunt that I thought was cool because she always wore pants and not old lady dresses. I was named after her and so were you.

Sarah - Congratulations! Another girl! you all are going to have so much fun!!! I only had uncles growing up but my son is lucky enough to have his auntie ‘lisa around.

Mindy S. - Aw, those pics are adorable!! I love the, “Aaagh! I’m trapped!” look. Growing up, my fondest memory of my aunt was when I first turned 16 and she let me drive her stick-shift. She didn’t even freak out even when I stalled it, ummm, 37 times!

Abby - My aunt is one of the most beautiful women I know…so I obviously like to take beauty/fashion advice from her. She always said that if you are going to wear sandals, your toenails MUST be painted! Alas, I don’t always hold strong to that rule!

Karen - I didn’t have an aunt growing up. My daughter’s aunt is only 10 (my husband’s little sister was adopted and they are 20 years apart!)There is only an 8 year age difference between them and they think it is so fun. She loves her aunt and I know as she grows up she will want to do everything her aunt does.

laura - my aunt helped me make a sewn-project christmas gift for my mom! she gave me my first experience with crafting a project like that:).

LaurenS - I love my aunt Diane! She would take 2 weeks each September and come stay with my sister and I while my parents were on their Mary Kay trip that my mom won each year. Too bad kids couldn’t go! But my aunt would come and stay with us and it was so much fun!

Lois Victoria - Oh baby girls! How fun! Although we’re technically cousins, the age makes me feel like an Aunt, so I take my “niece” to do uber-girly things when we’re together! We get our nails done, get Starbucks (chocolate milk for her!) and wear head-to-toe pink! She has brothers in the house so it’s our time to be 100% GIRLY! Love it :)

Taylor - In about 2 months I’ll have a niece. I’m so excited!
I plan on spoiling her when I can. Hopefully she’ll think of me as a fun aunt.

Sophie - I’m not surprised that Breese was none too pleased to be swaddled.

Small babies love the feeling of being restricted. It’s only when we get older that we develop the desire to be free.

Congratulations to your sister on her little girl. (:

Teresa J - We would go over to my Aunt Deb’s house. They had a grape vine and we would make homemade jelly, YUM!

Cricket - Congratulations! I LOVE being an aunt!

How about Auntie A? Easy and cute.

kassondra - my aunt introduced my to Celine Dion when i was younger and knowing we were horrible singers we would blast our Celine Dion cd’s and sing every word to every song anyways. that’s always been one of my favorite memories of my aunt TC (Teresa)

Courtney Connelly - Being an aunt so fun! Congrats again L and E, can’t wait to meet your sweet baby girl!

Jessica - I have a 17yo sister and she’s excited to be an aunt to my little girl. She got my daughter an outfit for Christmas that declares “I love my Auntie.”

kimberly minyard - Hi. Well I have a bunch of aunts. My Aunt Donna is the one I am close to now. She is like a second mother. My daughter calls her Nonna (which all her grandkids call her too). She takes care of my Nanny and does hair and makes amazing Flower arrangements and wreaths. We talk and hang out or she does my hair or whatever. Its nice to have someone like a mom who is not a your mom. I hope that makes sense. As for what your neice can call you.. I have no idea. Whatever she does call you it will be with love.

Meredith - She should call you Auntie! My 2.5 year old daughter calls all of my best friends Auntie (Auntie Mandy, Auntie Haylie) it’s really cute!

Carrie - I used to call my Aunt when something happened that I didn’t want my Mom to know about :) (my aunt was the wild child in her family and my mom was the straight laced one) like when I blew the tire on my car and wanted to get it fixed before I went home and had to explain that I ran over the curb :) So always let your new niece know that you are there to tell stuff to – that she wouldn’t even tell her Mom and that you will keep it a secret :)

Megan H - Growing up my aunt and I would sneak into my grandma’s dining room at the Holidays and sneak fudge. Now we do it at my mom’s during the holidays. : )

allison - my aunt used to take me to this awesome park where she lived. they had a kiddie train that we would ride for hours. i loved it!

Melanie - My cute sister and her hubby live 3 hours away from me with there 3 adorable children. Since I don’t get to see them as often as I wish. I send them “Memories” in a package for every holiday, birthday or just because.
I explain it to my hubby by telling him “We are creating fun childhood memories for them.” I love, LoVe, LOVE your blog! Thanks for the smiles!!!

amanda torres - I wipe my nephew’s stinky booty at least 4 times a day, 5 days a week. That’s love. Especially if you have seen his ‘presents’. Seriously though, I’m so blessed that my kids and I get to spend time with my nephew everyday. He is wonderful, and they are growing up more like brothers and sister than cousins. You’ll love being and aunt to your sister’s baby because…Aunt’s are like Mom’s, only cooler!

Miranda - My mom has 6 sisters, and my dad has 3 sisters so I grew up with a lot of aunts, and that’s not counting my mom’s 2 brothers wives or my dad’s 4 brother’s wives.
The first memory that came to my mind about one of my aunt’s is that my Aunt Sharon used to paint my nails when I was little.
I just became an aunt for the first time 3 months ago. I love having my own kids, I’m sure there are advantages to either being an aunt before you have your own children and not. I sometimes wish I could’ve been an aunt first, so that I could spoil my niece better. But I have definitely befitted from having the only grand kids too.

Jill R - When I was growing up I stayed a few days every summer with my Aunt Billie. We would go shopping and go to movies in what I thought at the time was “the big city”. ;) That visit was my favorite thing about every summer!

Danielle - my aunt, who is single – never married and no kids, and i have a wonderful relationship and now i cherish watching her with my boys. she did so many fun things with my sisters and i growing up. i just threw her a surprise50th birthday party in december to let her know how loved she is! congrats on your sweet niece on the way!

lisa - I was about 5 years old and I remember my Aunt taking me to a department store and telling me to pick out a dress, I had the enite store to choose from, although I don’t remember what dress I picked or if I even picked one. But after wards we went back to her house and put the dress on and played with her make up. Such fun to have a girly day. Congrat’s on becoming an Aunt!

Amanda Weber - I grew up with aunts around all the time. We always did so much stuff together as an extended family! It is great having an aunt only 7 years older than me. She always took us to stuff our parents wouldn’t. I too just found out I am going to be an aunt… not sure if it will be a neice or nephew yet, but I look forward to it! I think your neice should call you “Aunt Corbie”, although with C around it might be kind of strange!

Ashley - My aunt was an elementary teacher. Each year at the end of the summer she would take me and my cousin, Elaine, to help her setup. We would get to spend the night at her house and stay up watching movies. Then the next morning, we would all eat breakfast together and head to her classroom to set up and decorate. It is one of my fondest childhood memories.
I know you will make some amazing memories with your neice too. Congrats to your sister (and to you)!

Mandi Smith - I have the best aunt ever! She never had any kids of her own so she tends to spoil me and my siblings :) One of my favorite memories was going to get ice cream. On the way we would crank up the music and sing “The Locomotion” into the tire gauge that we pretended was a microphone.

danielle - My mom has 7 sisters…so I grew up with a lot of Aunts! They are the best! I also am now an Aunt to 4 nephews and just got my very first niece this past December!! I can’t wait to spoil her – she’s my Goddaughter too! It’s funny because my dauther calls her her sister too – she gets into arguments with kids at daycare when they say you don’t have a sister you have a brother and she tells them..no I have a sister too, her name is Molly!! (she’s 2.5yo)

Mara - CONGRATULATIONS – we are so excited for you. I am love with my two nieces and my favorite things to do for them now (since they are both two and under and live far away) is make handmade gifts and send them fun packages and cards.

Courtney H - Well my sister already posted a comment about what my daughter calls her. It’s “TeTe” which is derived from Auntie. And the same aunt that sold her Mary Kay stuff also used to take me to Sonic for a drink every time we hung out. Just me and her would go and no one else. It was a time we could just talk about life!

jody - To be an aunt is so fun. They confide in you (when they can’t confide to their parents)…As an aunt I always have gum (like Monica on Friends) or Smarties!

Jodie - I am not an aunt yet, but my sister is to my son. He calls her Tel-tee because he can’t say Kellie :)

Kirsten - My aunt is a prayer warrior…she is currently praying me (us) through our son’s autism spectrum diagnosis and our LONG wait for a phone call from the adoption agency telling us our second child is on the way. She is such a wonderful role model…as I’m sure you will be!! So excited for you!

Kim Cawley - I love being an aunt so I’m going to post something fun I’ve started doing with my nieces and nephews. For their birthdays, my kids and I “kidnap” them for breakfast. My kids and I get up early and drive over to the birthday “boy or girls” home and get them for a surprise breakfast, usually donuts. We all live close by so this is easy for us to do.
I just found your blog yesterday, so I hope it’s ok I’m posting this :)

Kristin S - My Aunt Linda was the safest and most fun person in the world for me. She was a year older than my mom and could never have children so she really was a second mom to me. She let me do all the things my mom would not. I could tell her things I’d never share with my mom (whom I basically told everything).
My Aunt Linda passed away when I was 15 and it was like losing a parent.
Just be the fun Aunt who kidnaps for a date at Chick-fil-A or the park for an hour.

Deanna - I am STILL close to my aunts. One aunt made me Barbie doll clothes (even knitted them sweaters), another taught me to play the piano and love music, and another one taught me that some people are just plum crazy and that’s ok too.

I just became an “aunt” for the first time a year ago, so I’m still learning the ropes. I have learned that my niece and nephew just want to play, do things they can’t do at home, and getting something fun in the mailbox is pretty cool too. Congratulations…I’m so exited for you!

Faith - When my first boyfriend broke up with me, my aunt was consoling me in the driveway. “You’ll be alright, honey, you’ll see. There are lots of other boys…..what about that one?” …as this cute guy named Britton drove by in his Jeep. “Yeah right”, I said.

Married him.

One of my favorite memories ever.

Ali Richardson - Your niece can simply call you “auntie.” It’s the term always save for the closest auntie in the family. I have a twin sister named Lisa. She’s isn’t called Auntie Lisa or aunt Lisa, nope. She’s called “Auntie”…as if she has no other name…..needs no other name. Other aunts go by other names, but auntie is saved for “the one!”
Congrats on becoming “auntie.”

Jodi - I love this one! That blanket is beautiful and baby sister is cracking me up…she is like “get me out of this thing!”.

I am the last of 6 siblings to have any children. The gap between the last one born and mine is like 10 years so I always have been considered the “cool auntie”. You know the one with no kids…who always does fun things with them. I DOTED and splurged on them all the time. Now that I have 2 young ones of my own, I LOVE the gap, my nieces make fabulous babysitters. I live on the East Coast and they are on the West Coast, so it’s cool for them to come out here. They end up staying for long periods, like a month at a time! I miss them so much!

Being a mom is amazing but being an Auntie is sooo much fun! Congrats!………you are so the “Auntie Ash”!!!

Lindy - My fabulous aunt Janelle taught me about fashion. She would play dress up with me and do my make-up. I can remember when she taught me how to paint my nails. I have been doing the same thing with my niece…she is turning into a fantastic girly girl!

Mary - I am excited to be aunt again coming this July. My sister is having here second baby (this time around a boy!) This contest made me laugh becuse with their first sweet baby they swaddled her until she was 15months old (she is currently 16mo)!!! It got to a point were they would lay the swaddle on the ground and she would crawl over lay down and put her arms down to her side and look at you like OK swaddle away!!! Now thats a girl who likes to cuddle.

lorae - I am lucky to have two Aunts who I remain extremely close to. My mother was a young single mother and we all lived together when I was little. When the aunties moved out I would often stay with them on weekends. They took me everywhere! Dates, concerts, movies and of course shopping. I remember to this day going on a date with one of them with their future husband. I sat in his lap and told him he would make a good uncle. My aunt was a little embarrassed but I was right! I don’t have any bothers or sisters nor does my husband but we are Aunt and Uncle to many of our friends children and that feeling is way cool. It warms my heart to hear the kiddos say how much they enjoy being with us. As for your name…it will come. It is more fun to see/hear what the little ones come up with. Congrats to you, your sister and the rest of your family.

Ellen - As an Aunt to one and later a Mother to one, I became a better, more aware Aunt after the birth of my own child. His sweetness became even more heartwarming when he became excited to be a cousin to my child.

Heather King - I just try to shower them with love and give pretty pink and purple presents… and plan all you want for what she’s going to call you, she’ll choose on her own… I like the princess of Awesomness, but be careful it might come out Awfulness :)

Rachel - My aunt was soo much fun growing up! My favorite memory with her is when she would let me sit on her lap while driving on their long driveway and steer the wheel. I was probably 8 or so. I thought it was the coolest!

Heather - I was just drooling over her blankets on etsy the other day! I have fond memories of family trips taken with my aunt, uncle and cousins. Growing up we always went to a hotel in the big city on Valentine’s weekend. As families we have begun doing it again.
Congrats on the baby girl… slightly jealous ;)

Laura - My aunt owned a condo on a lake so I have many memories of her taking us on the boat and riding jet ski’s with my cousins. We had so much fun!

Danielle Berg - I wasn’t close to my aunts growing up… sooo sad…

Kim B. - My Great Aunt (she is my maternal grandmothers sister) is my most FAVORITE Aunt. Growing up we called her “Sissy”, now the we are older my Sister and I just call her Sis.

My Sis is pushing 90 years old, still active and and the glue that holds our extended family together. I have two awesome Nephews ages 7 and 13, and they call ME “Sissy”, I Love it :)

Michelle Gray - I remember when I was little I would go stay w/ my cousins & my aunt would take us to the pool. So much fun as a kid in the summertime!
Congrats!!!

Katie M. - Oh my goodness! How exciting!!! I am about to be a first Aunt to a little boy in about 4 weeks from today:) I did soo very many fun things with my Aunties growing up…too many to list! You should definitely go by Auntie Ash…lol

Angela - I am excited to be an aunt for the very first time in June! My brother in law is having a baby girl, and she will be 5 months younger than my new baby boy. My son is going to have his own SisterCousin very soon. :)

Sarah Marie Long - I remember my aunt would always take my sister and I to the mall. When we were there we would go window shopping and end our adventure with cookie dough frozen yogurt! Good memories.

Julia - My 8 year old niece is coming to stay with us for 8 days over spring break! We are definitely planning a trip to the zoo and at least one park a day to enjoy this lovely weather!

Julie - My aunt would have me over to bake all sorts of things from pot roast to cookies. She also taught me how to really deep clean a house and then she would pay me to do hers. She also taught me how to whoop everyone at Monopoly-this one has really come in handy! My nieces and nephew are pretty close to my age so they just call me by my name. Although someday I will have a God-child and Julie always comes out sounding more like oowee, we are in the same boat!

Rachel - I thought I would never ever get to be an aunt as I am an only child..but my husband has both a brother and a sister…and finally, last July after years of waiting, I became an auntie to my niece Emma who is now 6 months old. I got to be a part of the entire birthing process which was so amazing in itself. So…my favorite thing to do is cuddle with her and remember how amazing it was to welcome her into this world and think about the bond that we will always have with each other.

Britney B - my aunt always took me horseback riding! we called her auntie, and even though i have many other aunts, she was my only auntie!

Martina - I remember my aunt painting my face on Halloween the year I was a clown. She had 3 boys and I think she loved getting to spend time me my sister and me.

Amy - I LOVE being an Aunt! My niece calls me Mamie since she couldn’t say Amy when she was itty bitty. I take my niece out on monthly “us’ time. The first Saturday of the month is ours and no one can interrupt it. We go to the park, movies, library, shopping, out to eat or just hang out at the house. Now that I have a little one of my own, my mom watches her while I hang with my niece for a few hours. :) Did I mention that I LOVE being an aunt!

My aunt- who we call Auntie- is awesome. She’s my mom’s twin sister and all use cousins are a year apart. We all grew up like sisters and brothers with two moms and dads. My cousin is like a Sistercousin: my daughter even ‘calls’ my cousin Auntie Sara.

Sarah - Adorable blankets!! I’m sure her SisterCousin will love it alittle more than she does :)

Lesley - Yay!! I’m so excited about the blanket! Thanks, Ash. And, I’m super pumped about my little girl having a sister-cousin! Aunt Ashley is hard to say but Beautiful Princess of Awesomeness will be perfect!

heidi - i have learned that the tricks to being the favorite aunt are pink and blue cupcakes, scooby doo movies, princess paper dolls, remote control cars, tickel wars, water fights, losing bets, and bribery.

Beth - My aunt had all boys, so she really enjoyed doing “girly” things with us when we would visit.

Congrats on being an aunt!

Julie - Oh how I wish my sister had kids! I’m blessed with several sweet aunts and I love how I have a different type relationship with them. Aunt Sissy was SO.MUCH.FUN! We couldn’t wait for her to come visit because we were spoiled rotten. Aunt Nell let us have coke with our breakfast, and Aunt Jo is a such an encouragement and a strong prayer warrior! And I can’t wait for my sister to be an aunt to my some-day children. Aunts are special people! :)

Cassie - My mom and aunt are total opposites–my mom dressed in classy, neutral outfits and my aunt had, well, flashier taste. I would always sit with my aunt at church, and the highlight of my week was counting how many rhinestones she was wearing. I think she’s secretly disappointed I’m having a boy…she wanted to pass on some of those crazy rhinestones! :)

Kristina H. - I adore my Aunt Sue…..she took me to get my ears pierced as a child, something my mother didn’t want to happen; she was like a second mother to me and it was refreshing to be able to talk to her about anything!! Savor the precious moments of your new, soon-to-be-born niece!!

Sara W - She could call you Auntie A.

My aunt only had boys so she would always take us girls shopping.

Melanie - My aunt was a bit nutty. I remember her always promising that my birthday gift was in the mail……it never made it. I still check. :-) I cherish being an aunt so much! Especially, since it’s been so hard for my husband and I to have our own. I love that my neice named me Auntie Mel. I also thought Aunt Melanie was a bit long. :-) I think you should try Auntie A. It always melts my heart hearing them call me by that name. Even now, that they are 13 and 10.

Naomi - I remember my aunt used to pick me up after school when I was four or five years old, and we’d go back to her house where she’d let me eat jelly (that’s jello to you, I think!) from the packet and spell our family’s names using the magnetic letters on her fridge. Very happy memories :)

Suzanne Green - One year I took 2 of my nephews to the State Fair and bought them anything they wanted to eat! They had turkey legs, lemonaid, and chocolate covered anything! It was such a great time!!

Colette Amey - Those two girls are going to have so much fun growing up together! My daughter is lucky enough to have two girl cousins born within a year of her… one is only 3 months older. Whenever anyone is coming to visit us, if I ask her to guess, her eyes light up and she always guesses her cousin. I wish we all lived closer :( but I smile as I think of all the fun memories they will make in the years to come!

Kristi - Congrats auntie! My best friend is really close with her cousin. They call each other sisco..short for sistercousin! Thats so neat to be close. I have a cousin who is a month older than me and we used to be really close and she even lives 7 hours away. Once we got older it got harder and harder! But its still nice to have family close in age!

Natalie - I discovered your blog a couple of months ago while searching for new content for my RSS reader. Your pictures inspire me to take better pictures and your kids are so cute! I’ve never commented before, but I just wanted to say thank you for your daily posts. They make me smile and I look forward to a new one each morning.

Congrats on becoming an auntie. My daughter (almost 17 months) has 2 sistercousins that are 2 and 5 months younger than her. I can’t wait for them to grow up together!!!

Kate - My aunt used to make us pancakes and strawberry milk for breakfast! A very rare and special treat!

As an aunt now, I let my nephew play cars on my face :) Long story.

Esther N - Watching my sister-in-law feed my son all kinds of horrible things a one-year-old shouldn’t eat, I told her “you just wait”. now that she has a little one of her own, I sneak that baby all sorts of goodies. wa-ha-ha-ha. (that was supposed to be an evil laugh)

Liz - Those blankets are Adorable!!!!

I always loved holiday meal prep with my aunts… they were sweet and cool and fun to hang around.

Georgia Davis - So excited for your sister. Send her my congrats!

Shannon - I have a great relationship with my aunt but I specifically remember one Christmas growing up when she spent forever helping me set up and play with my Barbie Ice Cream Shop. She was/is always there for me when I need any help. :)

candace - When my neices were younger, my name was not exempt from the long list of things pronounced in “kidtalk”. Candace became /Kin/-/iss/ and has stuck for nearly 12 years. I love hearing those sweet kiddos say my name aunt name. It is WAY better than being called “Aunt Candace” any day!

One aunt and I share a birthday (tomorrow actually) and her card is one I always look for first in tha mail. She is my favorite aunt and became a great source of womanly wisdom and a listening ear after my mother passed away.

Being an aunt is the MOST fun! (of course, we do not have children) :)

Jane - I hope I’m a cool aunt to my nieces and nephew. Last year my husband and I took all of them and our kids to Great Wolfe Lodge (in Ontario, Canada) and had a great time!

Tia - my aunt would always let me help her bake. she was also great at making up awesome bedtime stories.

Robyn Farmer - Today I went to my sisters house and my niece who is now 14 was going to a slumber party. She was doing her hair and let me curl it. She always parts it straight down the middle and I asked if I could part it to the side…she let me and it changed her whole look. She went from looking like my baby niece to a young lady. When she saw her friends they told her how beautiful she looked. It made me feel like a real Aunt for the first time.

Valerie - Those pictures crack me up! My kiddo would totally make that face if I swaddled him again now. He barely tolerated it when he was little. He’s a wiggler. The blanket is so stinkin cute, though. I do have a friend I need a gift for!

liz elayne - oh my those photos are so cute! with my own little girl twirling inside me right now (set to arrive in may), i love adding another favorite etsy link to my list as we want to buy as much as possible handmade for her.

a favorite memory with one of my aunts is when she picked me up at the airport with flowers when i came to visit during a difficult time in my family (my parents were divorcing). those happy flowers and her hug invited me to feel safe for the first time in weeks. it was a gift i will always treasure.

Trina - Congrats! I like Auntie LeeLee. My sister-in-law’s name is Jackie & we call her Auntie KiKi (for the last half of her name). Auntie LeeLee is fun, easy to say & Cute!

Amy - I did not get to see any of my aunts very often growing up, so seeing them on holidays or vacation was always a treat. Each special in their own ways. One had cable and we didn’t, one had a house at the beach, one always bought the best gifts(pretty shallow now but big deal as a kid),one loved us as her own disciplining us and everything(her boys were our brother cousins) and the other one was, well the black sheep. Had great times with all.

As for a name, I have heard a lot of the older generations refer to their aunts as auntie.Thought it sounds appropriate since you are into taking vintage and making it like new :)

Nicole - I vote to let her make up her own name for you! My (then toddler, now 15 year old) niece called me “Nack” when she couldn’t pronounce “Nicole”. Melted my heart every time I heard it!

Congratulations on becoming an auntie!

ae - I think the most “fun” thing my nephew would say I’ve done is convince his parents to come on a trip to Disney World with us! That is, if he could remember it. He was too young at the time, but whether he knows it or not, that probably beat the playing we do around the house.

Savannah - I was the only niece my aunt had so for a long time I was spoiled rotten and spent many weekends learning the ways of the world with my aunt!

Rachel - My aunts lived far away as I was growing up, but when the UPS man would show up at our door we would go nuts! I have one aunt who would send a package (usually early summer) that would include Christmas stickers, Valentine’s day crafts, and Easter candy. She would always apologize that she hadn’t sent the things as she bought them, but as a kid it was like getting to relive all the holidays at once!

Catie - Congratulations! I absolutely love being an aunt!!! I have two nephews a niece and another on the way! I would say something I do as an aunt is play this exciting game of batman/robin/cat women. Its one of their favorite things to do and its great exercise for me too!

Lilly - my aunt would have me over for sleepovers and we would make lemon poppyseed muffins and other yummy things since my own mom was not much of a baker. to this day, lemon poppyseed is one of my favorite flavors. congrats!

Lindsey - When I was young, My aunt started the tradition of taking me out on my birthday to shop for one complete outfit. Im talking shirt, pants, socks, new shoes, hair accessories, jewelry, etc!We always had the best time, and I looked forward to it every year. Now that my brother is having his first baby, I cant wait to be an aunt and have that special relationship with my new nephew.

Autumn - Being an aunt is sooo much fun!!! Growing up we never lived very close to our aunts, but we were still very close to them and my cousins. We always looked forward to visiting them at their house and always had a blast (still do).

paige - I have an Aunt who lived in Haiti growing up (and still does), and I thought she was a fashion GODDESS. When we would visit her in Miami, she always had THE best clothes and jewelry and her nails were always painted so perfectly. It’s so vivid in my mind. I wanted to be just like her! Thanks for the giveaway!!

Robyn Lee - My aunt let me go to cheerleading camp when I was younger. She even made me act like my cousin was my brother so the camp would let me in. My parents were 6 hours away and they needed a parent’s signature…. so my aunt was my “mom” for a week. lol!

Hallie - I have to tell you two:

I just thought of this last night! My sister and I would stay with our Aunt Ann for a week or two every summer. She and a friend had a job cleaning an office and while they cleaned we got to play secretary. We would pretend to take calls, picking up the phone and saying, “Conestoga Wood Production, may I help you?” That is one of those proofs that it is not WHAT you do, but just being together as you go about, that is special.

Every time I hear the song “Is She Really Going Out With Him?” I think of my mother’s other sister, Aunt Jenny. She was sixteen with a new license and a Chevy Malibu and she was allowed to take us to the store or something. I remember the hot sun, the windows down, and the song coming on the radio. Good times…good times!

Hooray for you and your new niece!

ashley - My name is Ashley as well and my one year old niece calls me Sash! I LOVE IT and it will be so cute when she says Aunt Sash!!!

LOVED how you wanted her to call you Most Beautiful Princess of Awesomeness. My best friend who recently had a little boy calls herself “Pretty Mommy” when she talks to her son so that he will think her name is “Pretty Mommy” instead of Mom! It’s caught on with everyone and now I call her “Pretty Mommy” as well!!!

BTW, was recently introduced to your blog and ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!

Kara - I have some of the best memories ever with my aunt. She is single so we got to spend lots of girls nights together. The movies, game nights all sorts of stuff. Now that I am an aunt I LOVE to take my nephews to fun things that mom doesn’t always have time for. My son and one of my nephews are 5 months apart and they are BEST friends. They are 2 and it is so fun to watch them!!!! CONGRATS!!! Auntie Ann!!!

Sarah K - My Aunt never had kids, so when I was little, she spoiled us rotten! I always enjoyed our shopping excursions…what a treat!

Lindsey P - My aunt is the best bargain shopper. I loved going shopping with her just the two of us :)

Katie - I remember my aunt always turning up really cool music when we were with her. She always seemed so much easier to talk to than my mom.

Callie B - cute blankets! As an aunt, we live apart from all of my little niece and nephews so it’s fun to make up little care packages with inexpensives little items. my kids color pictures and write notes to include, and we mail it off. They in turn, do the same. It’s a fun way for the cousins (and Aunts) and keeps in touch and connect!

Donita - Hi! My name is Donita, nickname Nita and my niece grew up in New Jersey and we would see her at Christmas and for two weeks every summer. Where i’m from, we call our aunts – “Aunty” so growing up she always called me Aunty Nita or so i thought. She though my name was “Tenita” and she called me Aunt Tenita…she’s 19 and I’m Aunt Donita now…

Blessings for your upcoming addition…I have lots of sister cousins and we are a pretty tight group!

Heather - How about “Aunt Leelee” (pronounced “lee-lee”), from “Ashley”? It seems like basic, repeating sounds are easy names to say, and the tricky “sh” gets left out that way!
I have yet to come up with a toddler-friendly way to pronounce my own name- Heather. The “H” plus the “th” in the middle makes it come out mangled every time. My little Sunday school kiddies can never manage it. :)

Dick - I have a wonderful Aunt Ginny. She is in her eighties and whenever my wife takes the grandchildren on a walk around the block, aunt Ginny meets them at the end of her driveway with a treat. Sometimes the kids want to stop for a treat, even when she is not out there. They know Aunt Ginny loves them.

Deb - My Aunt Lil used to get my brother and me out of school at least once a year when she would come to visit. One time she took us to a Cleveland Indians baseball game. I didn’t care much for baseball, but it was fun being there with her and my uncle Andy. I saw a side of her I never saw before. She knew all the players names and positions and many other boring things about baseball, but I did think it was pretty neat that she knew this much about baseball, because she always seemed so ,”Prissy.”

Heidi - I think I may be getting in under the end-of-the-contest wire!

Now that my sisters and cousins are all adults, we have a semi-regular game night with all of our aunts and it is SUCH a blast. We laugh, eat and, sometimes, really do end up playing games.

Congratulations on your sister’s baby girl news!

Erin Aitkens - My dad is an only child and my mother has only one brother, married but no children. This means that, growing up I didn’t have any cousins… Sad story! However, I am excited as my sister-in-law just found out last week that she is pregnant! This means that at least my son will know the joy of growing up with cousins!

Meg - I live in Chicago and my sister lives a state away in the suburbs so my niece and nephew love coming to spend time in “the city”. My nephew (a huge Cubs fan) especially loves that we can walk to Wrigley Field. My dad always comments about how it’s these trips staying in my tiny place that they’ll remember and love when they’re older.

Laura Beth - I loved going to the zoo with my aunt when I was little! I had 2 brothers so I really enjoyed (and still do) time with my girl cousins!

amy - My favorite aunt growing up is now my kids’ favorite great-aunt! They took us all to the Kiddie Park in their hometown in OK this summer. My kids LOVED it!

Ashley Cangelosi - My babies have all loved to be swaddled…so for a gidt to give…the blue and red circles and diamonds would rock!

HeatherR - Congrats, Ashley! I stalk your blog regularly, and I can tell you are going to be an AWESOME auntie. I am an aunt to 5 amazing nieces and 1 great niece, AND another great niece and nephew to arrive later this summer! Being an aunt is SO.MUCH.FUN. Fun stuff – any project you come up with, they are going to LOVE, so I would say, just be YOU girl, and just as your kids are blessed, so will this special little girl. Oh, and in the words of Monica Gellar from “Friends”. . .you should always have gum. ;-) Congrats again!

Christina S - I think “Aunt AA” would be a good name for your niece to call you. :)

Allison - I had one aunt that was a big part of my life. Even though she had leukemia and was in and out of the hospital and lived in a different state, she always made sure she was present at all of the major milestones in my life! She hated breakfast but loved chocolate! When we would stay with her, we made these things called gobs that were a soft chocolate cookies with icing in the middle. When those were gone, there were always oreos!!! We also always had potaoto chips and French onion dip as a bedtime snack! Things we never got when we were at home! She is now my sons godmother and is a big part of his life too! We are so blessed that she has lived this long and that she can know her great nephews and they too can see what an amazing woman she is! Congrats on being an aunt ashley!!!!! I too can’t wait to become one…..one day!

michelle - My aunt and I would have tea parties and picnics in her backyard… sooo much fun!

My niece calls me TT. I personally think it’s adorable. She had a hard time saying auntie

valerie - Congratulations! I have awarded you a Beautiful Bloggger Award! Thanks for being so inspiring.

kelly g - My aunt was a farmer, I learned so much from her. She took me to a rodeo and I rode in a sheep rodeo…yes, the sheep bucked and I fell off!! I’ve never told anyone!

Mandy - Oh YAY! Congrats L & E! I’m thrilled for you guys! I was thinking maybe she could call Ashley “Auntie Annie” or something along those lines… kind of rolls off the tongue, I think. :)

Chelsea - What a cute blanket! I spent lots of time with my aunt at the beach with her family going up. So fun!

Crystal Allen - my aunt and i are very close. when i was younger, she would take me, my sister and our 2 cousins to visit our grandparents over the 4th of July weekend every year. she’s even the one that i turned to when i was in my early 20’s and really need help. thanks clallen at ntin dot net

Mandy - I am usually a lurker and I know the contest is closed but I just wanted to comment about your sister being pregnant! My youngest daughter and my sister’s youngest daughter are 5 days apart. We live 600 miles away from one another and they have probably seen eachother a whole 25 times in their whole lives but they are the best of friends and they pick up right where they leave off each time they see eachother and cry like the dickens when we pull them apart to leave. I had many close close cousins growing up. There is nothing quite like a sistercousin!

Dee Fuller - Oh my goodness I love those!!!!!!!!

ruffles, ruffles, ruffles….and some you are really going to like!

UPDATE: The contest is now closed. The last counting comment is ae’s “sunshine.” Winner to be announced soon.

In less than a year’s time I have gone from not owning a sewing machine to sewing ruffles on everything. What happened to that girl that was shell shocked about having a girl in her house? She’s not here anymore! Just to refresh you, here are some of my ruffle projects over the last 8 months…click on the title to find a link to the original post:

Ruffled Amy Butler pillow for my daughter’s nursery

Ruffle Bottom onesies…man oh man did her little newborn bum look cute in these!

T-shirt fabric ruffled pillow. The easiest thing ever to make. (sorry no tutorial)

Ruffled Tea Towels

Well now that she is all over the place, she doesn’t really like anything on her legs – slows her down. Heaven forbid she crawl around in a plain ole’ diaper cover like her brothers did. Well they actually didn’t have diaper covers, but we can pretend. Again, no tutorial for this. I feel funny about doing sewing tutorials. I don’t know anything technical about sewing so I am afraid to post a tutorial knowing so many great seamstresses read this. Basically, I just cut strips of scrap fabric, folded over the edges, sewed them down and then layered the ruffles on some bloomers I already had.  I did the cutting one night and the sewing in about 20 minutes one morning. Super fast project.

This little thing crawling across the floor is just so much cuter than the diaper.

When I found out I was having a girl (after 3 boys) I talked to a lot of girls I knew that grew up with older brothers. Some had awesome experiences, others not so great. Among the things that stood out to me was that some older brothers gave their little sister a hard time for doing ‘girlie’ things….like painting fingernails, wearing pink, makeup, etc. It seemed very natural for a lot of my friends to be more ‘tomboy’ than ‘girlie girl’ because they loved their brothers and naturally just embraced that. I don’t care if my daughter grows up wearing converse or heels. I don’t care if she likes hot pink or orange. I don’t care if she sews, crafts or hunts. I want her to be who she is uniquely created to be. I do care, however, that her brothers never make fun of her if she does decide to be more of a girlie girl. For that reason, while she is young I am celebrating the girlie girl stuff in an effort to teach her brothers to celebrate her unique role as their little SISTER. So by bringing on the ruffles and letting her brothers see her crawl around in her cuteness hopefully they are learning that being a girl isn’t ‘gross’, but can be pretty cool and special.

I hope while she doesn’t have an opinion that her girlie hats, headbands and ruffles will help teach her brothers (and her) that the desire and ability to climb mountains, camp and make the biggest splash in the mud puddle have nothing to do with whether you have Spiderman or ruffles on your rear.

One place I have not attempted to add a ruffle is on my camera…well Shey[B] came to my rescue.  Ruffles on camera straps. CUTE, STYLISH, FUN RUFFLES ON CAMERA STRAPS. Can you believe these things!

She has tons more…not all have ruffles…some would work for you guys out there too. I can’t wait to get my strap in the mail, until then I want to celebrate RUFFLES! What is a celebration without a present? Today you can win a Shey[B] camera strap cover!

a beautiful idea {evie s. things of beauty}

All pictures below are by Evie S.

Let me introduce you to the talented Evie S…..for some of you I am sure she needs no introduction. Evie is fully of lovely ideas.

For instance how lovely is this collage of her first pregnancy?

On her blog you can also find lovely interviews with talented artists…full of more great ideas than my mind could ever process

It’s hard to find great boy clothes that you can make yourself…she has DIY tutorials for some of her creative designs. This shirt for her son being another great idea.

Picking up a paintbrush again…another lovely idea.

She also has a wedding business and sells the most lovely ring pillows…not the kind you find at most stores. Lovely idea.

Postcards for Christmas….lovely family, lovely idea.

She repurposed an old sweater into this gorgeous cardigan. Fashionable idea.

Beyond all that talent that oozes from her and on her blog is A Beautiful Idea.

Here is what Evie says about A Beautiful Idea, “As an artist, I have struggled with the “why” behind the creative urges I have – to be used for something more than myself or for profits. I have longed for a greater purpose. I know I am not the only artist that feels this way. That’s why I created A Beautiful Idea.”

A Beautiful Idea is a network of artist, creators, crafters, etc. that make, sell and donate profits for a greater cause. If you are interested in more information you can visit A Beautiful Idea website. If you get involved, let me know!

Thanks Evie for sharing such a beautiful idea.

meg duerksen - very cool.
can’t wait to spend some time checking her out!

evie - Thank you Ashley for the sweet compliments and for letting everyone know about A Beautiful Idea!

Jamie - Evie designed my wedding invitations! She was awesome! I’m so glad to be “reacquainted” with her work bc it was a true pleasure working with her in the past. Thanks for this post!

Robyn Farmer - Love it! Love all of her re-use of old clothing. I know after having my little one nothing really fits the way it should and I would love to bring some attention to chiffon ruffles rather than….my waistline. I am on the hunt to find some clothes to cut and dice.

Lisa Johnson - beautiful indeed! I’m enjoying these introductions to other creative and inspiring blogs

Anna Joy - Thank you for sharing this!

Emily Morrice - Thanks Ashley for recommending Evie.S’s blog, like yours, I love it :) So pretty and exciting to think of all the new things I need to try!!

Sandy - I love that pregnancy calendar! I totally want to make one too.. when the time comes, which won’t be for awhile! That repurposed cardigan is very lovely as well!

Giveaway Winner {The WheatField…aka You are My Sunshine poster}

And the winner (chosen at random) of a poster from The Wheatfield is Lindsay who wrote, “Love You Are My Sunshine!….and Breathe and Smile, Home Sweet HOme…etc. But You Are My Sunshine is #1.”

Speaking of Sunshine….I love this video from a former SnapShop attendee. You can visit her blog here for loads of adorable pictures of her kids….BUT you really need to click ‘play’ below to see the sweetest little video. Her little girl is cuter than should be allowed.

Jodi - Congratulations to the winner! I am still ordering that LOVE Haiti poster! I just LOVE it so much. :)

Melissa - Thank you so much for sharing this adorable video! 21 month old Lily & I watched it twice we loved it so much! She clapped her hands, was grinning ear to ear, and did the “more” sign when it was over!

Lesley - That’s adorable!

Rachel - I am right there with Melissa… my 18 month old loves this video. We have watched it twice, and he keeps signing baby! I think we will probably watch it a few more times.

Jackie - What an adorable video and the music is perfect. Definately UTube worthy!

Wrapping up 500th post party week with Pippi Longstockings

UPDATE: CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. The last counting comment is Anna Marie’s.

Well I was recently informed that I don’t post enough pictures of Baby Sister. And I know you are thinking: What? She posts pictures all the time…its the boys that are left out. Well according to my grandpa (her Great Grandpa) there just aren’t enough pictures of her to keep him satisfied! He reads my blog! :)

So Grandpa I’ll start today’s post off just for you. Here she is in her new Valentine’s Day hat…looking cute for her Great Grandpa!

Chris is home! He has some amazing stories and pictures….I’m talking him into doing a guest post next week. A friend of ours recently said to a few thousand people that blogs are ‘yesterday’ and they bore him. He said Twitter is the new thing. Even though you could read Chris’ Twitter account of his time in Haiti, I have a feeling you will enjoy a blog post more. And quite frankly I think my friend is just grumpy because no one reads his blog. :)

One of the things I had planned to post on Monday was a listing of some of the most popular posts out of my first 500. Well it is Friday and I am now getting to that. Many of you (in fact about 90% of you) started reading this blog in the last year….many more in the last couple of months. So here is a little list of some posts that have had the most popular page visits. I am going to add a category tab for this eventually so new readers can find highlights without having to read through all the Archives. So drumroll please…..a few highlights from the first 500 posts (in no particular order):

And to end this week’s giveaways I am finishing how I started…with super cute baby/kid hats. This time it is from a local gal that has the etsy shop HeartSmiles, but sorry there aren’t any boy hats in the store. You know I can’t resist a crocheted hat with a flower!

Contest Details:

Prize is one item from HeartSmiles

Contest ends Saturday, February 13th at 9:00pm

Winner chosen at random

In the comment box tell me a Valentine’s memory…could be great, funny, sad, I hate Valentines….whatever!

Jennifer Williams - The very first Valentine’s that my husband and I celebrated together he got me tennis shoes! Not very romantic, but a true testament to who he is. I needed a new pair so he got me a new pair. I’ve never let him live it down, but I love the way he takes care of me! Have a wonderful Valentine’s weekend Ashley!

Karla - My first kiss with my husband happened on Valentine’s Day. Out on a pier, at night, in the freezing cold. It was lovely.

Alba - just to say that babysister looks so funny, and I love to see a pic from you both. No boys hats? well, there will be another time. All your posts are great, but I’ll keep My Son, The Goat Whisperer as my fav. I hate Valentines too ;-)

Elizabeth - My children always make homemade Valentine’s Day cards for my husband and I….We love looking back at all the years of memories and love….they always makes us laugh and smile!

anne c - before I was married, I used to wear all black on Valentine’s Day…I just don’t like commercialized holidays. To me they aren’t special or thoughtful. But…now that I am married…to a sensitive, romantic man..I am learning to at least acknowledge the day :) Flowers, little notes, and other surprises are better out of the blue than when expected. just my opinion :) however, I do wish/hope everyone has a very HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!!!!

cassie - We celebrated Valentines yesterday with three of my kids friends and their mom’s. We made cupcakes and your crayon wax paper heart garland. After seeing that post I knew we had to have a party and let the kids try it out. My kids said it was their favorite party and wanted to know when it is Valentines again.

annalea - as a little girl, i loved the anticipation of knowing my dad was going to surprise my sister and i with gifts. always made me feel so special to have a valentine who loved me so much. :)

Ruthy T. - Ah Valentine’s! What a crappy Holiday! I like it better when I’m told that I’m loved, when I don’t expect it. It’s the most loving feeling!

Margie - My favorite Valentine memory is from MANY years ago when my brother and I were little kids. My mother sent us cards as a ’secret admirer’, in my brothers card she wrote ‘to my brown eyed hunk, from your secret admirer’, and my brother (sweet little guy that he was) wondered aloud ‘who would know that I have brown eyes’! This still makes me laugh.

Christine - One of my favorite memories is when my dad would always make sure his daughters were included Valentines day be taking us out to eat or just simply buying us a carnation! Now since he has passed he has left us with great memories and a great lesson so now we make sure to always make sure our momo is included.

Beth - I can honestly say there is nothing about Valentine’s day that stands out in my mind as a memory. Good, bad or indifferent. As you can probably tell Valentine’s Day isn’t the most exciting of holidays around my house…

Jo - Actually you don’t post enough pictures with you and the kiddos!!! It’s nice to see ya sometimes too! :) I do love that hat of baby sisters, she is soo precious. I love her facial expressions!!

Christy H - My favorite Valentine’s memory is always getting handmade Valentine’s from my Mom Mom Lydia., she cut out pictures from magazines and glued them to lil paper doilies. They were the sweetest thing ever. I have one that I managed to save and use as a bookmarker. Now that I’m a mom, I want to make handmade valentines with my daughter just like my mom mom did :)

Kari - My husband and I had the greatest Valentine’s Day in 2004. After five and half years of trying to conceive a child, God answered our prayers…coincidentally, it snowed that year too! :) That might be more information than you wanted to know, haha, but coming from someone who longed for a child for so long, I think it’s the greatest gift ever!

Lindsay - My husband and I started a tradition on our first Valentines Day that we always have a pizza with pepperoni placed in a heart shape. It may just be a frozen pizza but as they say it’s the thought that counts. :)

Tracy - I enjoy valentines…usually my husband and i get a movie and he brings me flowers! Low key but enjoyable…just another excuse to have a date and spend time with my man!!

Enjoy your valentines with your man! Thanks for all the great giveaways and having a truly inspiring blog!!

ashlee - my husband says valentines day is a holiday created by Hallmark to generate sales…but he never fails to buy me my favorite chocolata and my favorite flowers every year:) btw that hat is sooo cute!!

Karen - Every Valentine’s day my dad bought me and my sister each a heart shaped box of candy. It was awesome. I can’t remember what he got my brothers, but I remember them stealing all my candy!

Kristi - I dont really have a special memory about valentines day. I am not really the romantic kind so it doesn’t bother me. I do have a gift I got from my husband the very first year we were together. Well he got me a few gifts but with them was this beany pillow from bath and body works in the shape of a heart. I still sleep with it everynight since then and that was 5 years ago. It kinda has lost it shape…but then again so have I! haha

Jeannette Swan - I don’t really remember Valentine’s growing up – so I guess it was average! I love it now with my kids – we make our valentine’s each year. My oldest was trying to remember what we did his last several years in school (he is 4th grade this year). He even said last night that he likes that we make ours and not just buy cards – makes me feel good! I also like to do something special for the kids on Valentine’s – I got them each a little mail box that I put a little treat in – they also got a little bigger gift that won’t fit – so I will put a note so they can go find it. I also love the little class parties and just how excited the kids are to get the valentines and treats. Ok – that was too much – sorry!

amanda torres - I’ve never been much of a Valentine’s person, but one year I will never forget. I had a student who put a Valentine in my sack that said, “Mrs. Torres I love you.” I didn’t think too much about it because you get a lot of those as a teacher. But, when he came up to me after the party, he asked if I got his. I said yes, and that I loved him too. The reponse was classic! He said, “Yessssss, I knew you did. My mom said you wouldn’t marry me, but now that I know you love me too we can get married!” Too funny! Especially because this was a 4th grader!

Alison R - One of my favorite valentines memories was from when I was little. My mother helped me decorate a card box for our school Valentines Party. I remember it wasn’t a traditional red and pink box with hearts on it. It was a pretty butterfly themed box and I won first place! The best part was having my mother’s undivided attention for a little while (there were 5 of us at the time)! That hat is too cute on your little one!

Abby - My husband and I celebrated our first Valentines Day as a married couple with a “fancy” meal we made at home. Andy had plans to grill lobster tails on the grill–well, it snowed a ton, but he still wanted to make the lobster as planned. I can still see him falling down in a huge drift on the way out to his grill!

Sherry - My funniest valentines memory is the first valentines day I had with my husband when we first started dating. I started a new job on February 11th and I had orientations I had to go to. When I got back there was a bouquet of flowers on my desk and I thought that my boss got them for me. I’m just glad I didn’t tell him I thought they were from him. After I thought this up in my head and kept my mouth shut he told me my “boyfriend” dropped them off.

Samantha - Yep… my first Valentine’s Day with my hubby {back when we were dating}, he gave me a Thank You note as my VDay card. He had forgotten to buy one and when he went to buy one {ON VDay}, the store was out. Needless to say, every year since then, the running joke has been that I get two cards: a thank you note AND a VDay card.

Meagan - I just discovered her shop the other day and LOVED her stuff! Hope I win!!! My favorite Valentine memory is our first Valentine’s day as a married couple. I decided to surprise my hubby with a big, fancy Italian dinner! I borrowed fancy dishes, glasses, and a tablecloth from my grandma and finished the table with some fresh red roses. For dinner, I made chicken alfredo, and for dessert, a cheesecake with raspberry sauce! I cooked all evening! He ended up getting home late from work, but it was fine since dinner was running late also! Time management has never been my strength! I came accross the photos from that night last week!

becky - Valentine’s Day, 2001. Thought I was getting engaged, but ended up just being dinner. I hated Valentines day. Got engaged the next day in the Bailey Business parking lot at OBU right before he left out of town for a baseball trip :-)

Robyn Farmer - One Valentine’s when my husband and I were newly married we both worked a few jobs to pay the bills while finishing school so I worked at a floral shop for the v-day week. It was crazy, crazy, crazy and it made me realize how silly the holiday was. It made me thankful to feel so loved each and every day by my husband and not hopeful of affections only one day out of the year.

Kelley - My favorite valentine memory is from 5 years ago. We always have a family dinner then the kids go on a scavenger hunt to find their valentines. All the while we were doing this, I was getting ready to go into the hospital early the next morning to be induced to have our third son. He will turn 5 on Feb 15th. That year will always be my favorite!

Jana - I really do not like Valentines Day. I think you need to show the one you love how special they are EVERY day and not wait for that 1 day a year. You never have been promised a tomorrow.

Jill - last valentines day my boyfriend and i went to one of our favorite restaurant ready for a romantic dinner. they do not take reservations so we waited about a half an hour to be seated and then once we were seated it was like we were sitting with 10 other couple all trying to be on their own romantic dinner.

Rebecca - Before hubs and I were married, in fact, the first Valentine’s Day we had as a couple-Matt walks out of his truck holding a rosebush. I immediately thought “Oh golly-this guy is GOOD. Not just roses but roses that bloom EVERY YEAR!” I went to kiss him and thank him for the flowers and he pulled them back and said “Oh these?! I got these for your MOM.” Then he handed me a bunch of (what I like to call) gas-station flowers. Carnations and maybe a half-dead daisy in there. He swears he didn’t get them at the gas station…but….that hardly helped. :-)

Amber - I think that this Valentine Day may be my favorite. My 2 year old understands the meaning and is loving making and giving valentines. I love watching her light up when she gives something to someone.

Stacy - My favourite Valentine’s memory actually happens year after year. My dad has always brought me one rose on Valentine’s day and once my daughter was born, he started to bring her one too. It’s a tradition that’s gone on for many years now and he always still manages to surprise me with it, even after all this time. I love surprises and it’s a nice one to kind of forget about and then remember all over again every year :)

Cate O’Malley - Love her expressions – too cute for words!

Mary - My first love was Ty. I’ve had my heart broken in the past; by Ty. My valentine after 20 years, is still Ty. God just meant us to be together.

Kate A - Last Valentine’s day my husband and I gave each other tickets to see Flight of the Conchords in Chicago – hilarious! We had also just recently found out I was pregnant with our first baby so we had sparkling grape juice instead of champagne :)

Julie B. - One year we forgot to make reservations and when we got to the restaurant, they told us the wait was a good hour and a half. So, after a couple of tries at other restaurants, we ended up at Chick-fil-A… they had table cloths, chocolates, the lights were dimmed and everything. It was interesting:)

Miranda - I love Valentine’s Day!! Esp this year, my man of 8 years surprised me with 2 dozen roses! So beautiful! Hope everyone has an awesome Valentine’s Day too!! <3

Shawn Maddox - We have never had very big Valentine’s celebrations..but just the chance to have some time together is always great!

Lindy - My favorite Valentine’s Day memory is from grade school…I always made sure that when I passed out valentines that any boy I didn’t like got a crappy one…Kind of mean right?

Liz E - We stole this idea from another fab blogger, but we write what we love about each other on construction paper hearts and tape it all around our dining area. Our dining room is filled with pink and red hearts telling of wonderful (and funny!) stuff about each other!

Stacy - What a fun give away! I hope I win, the hats are adorable!! I love Valentines day. My mom used to leave cute things by mine and my siblings beds on Valentines day morning. I loved waking up to it. Even if it was silly little things… it all said “I love you.”

jenn G. - I made my one and only DIY project ever… a mod podge frame for Larsee with homemade cookies that spelled out I love you… where has the romance gone? :)

Shannon - While I was never ‘into’ V-Day, my dad always bought my mom and I each a box of candy from Fannie Mae. And he always got my favorite- turtles! I wish he still did that for me as an adult. It was the only time anyone ever bought me a box of candy! :)

Kaleena - I loved getting flowers from my little man last year. Daddy brought him to my work and he toddled in with some flowers for mommy. So sweet!

Amanda - My favorite Valentine’s day was when my husband gave me an Oprah magazine. At first I thought, “Thanks, a magazine subscription. Is there any Chocolate?” Then I looked through it. He had inserted work bubbles by Oprah as if she were talking to me. She “told me” lots about Chicago, and eventually by the last page said she was “excited to see me soon at her show!” He scored tickets and we went that April.

ae - One of my favorites is when I was across the country on Valentine’s, and my boyfriend sent me gingerbread cookies he made using his mom’s recipe. I’m pretty sure it was the first time ever that he baked.

April - What a cute blog. Hmmmm… Valentines Day should be celebrated every day!! Just my opinion! :-) But after 4 sons I do enjoy Valentines Day with all the cute dress, tights, shoes and hair things!! My daughter looks so cute in RED!

Lucy - When my husband and I were dating I told him I didn’t want anything for Valentine’s Day, to take the pressure off. The Friday before Valentine’s Day he brought me a bouquet of roses. He said it was just because he loved me, not for Valentine’s Day. Yeah, he’s pretty perfect.

amy jupin - valentine’s day is the same day as my sister’s birthday. so when i think of valentine’s day, i think of her!

Cheri - My favorite V-Day memory is the first one I spent with my husband (then boyfriend). We were just two young kids. He surprised me with flowers, candles (I had a thing for candles), and a fancy dinner. We didn’t have a clue what we were doing, but man was he sweet.

Abigail - I’ll never forget the first valentine I received from my husband before we ever started to date. I was in class and he was a part of a ’singing valentine’ group. The four guys came into our class and stood in front of me. I’m sure my face was red with embarassment. They sang their song (which was sung so well) and quickly exited the classroom to avoid more focus on me. It was a sweet thing to do but I’m not the kind of person who likes to be the center of attention:)

Erin - All I have to say is this post is sooooo stinkin’ cute!! Love, love it! I’ll keep the remarks about Valentines day to myself ;)

Laura - Well, my favorite memory is a brand new one! This year my hubby let the kids and I pick out a doggy to adopt for Valentines Day. We found the perfect doggy, and he has a perfect little heart on his chest. We named him Joey Valentine :)

Colette Amey - I don’t really get into Valentine’s Day like some, but I do remember one Valentine’s Day when my husband (then boyfriend) injured his ankle playing basketball. We spent the evening at the hospital getting x-rays — and he spent the next few weeks on crutches during the middle of winter in Iowa (icy sidewalks are tricky with crutches!) I am one who started reading your blog in the past year and I really enjoy it. Thanks for posting!!

Hollie - My memory is waiting to be made….It is the one where my overdue daughter is born on Valentines day! As in this coming Sunday :) She was due on the 1st but my whole pregnancy I said it would be so neat if she was born on Valentines day! Here’s to hoping I get what I asked for! (Little did I know what waiting 2 extra weeks would mean!!…..obviously I’m a first timer in that department!) I love your blog and can’t wait to make the vintage glasses onesie for my own girly!

Kim B. - Not really a fan of Valentines Day.

Jennifer - My best Valentine’s Day memory was the day my husband proposed. I was shocked and elated! It was awesome!

christina larsen - Valentine’s Day is Valentine’s Day. I try to get excited about it every year, but every year, it’s the same. My husband and I usually do something together or get each other something. I get the kids something yummy (like choc or small gifts) and that’s it. I do like the colors that seem to make their appearance around Valentine’s Day. To me, it means that Spring is on it’s way. I LOVE SPRING!!!!

Meg - My first Valentine’s as a married woman…it just was so fun. We didn’t do anything unusual…out to dinner and some sweet gifts from my man. I can remember what I wore that day…10 years ago.

meg duerksen - in fourth grade i got a valentine that said You are ugly i hate you. i cried and cried ad cried. :)
i remember it clear as a bell.

Crystal - My husband and I are high school sweethearts. Our very first Valentine’s day, at the ripe old age of 16, he decided to leave me a treat…as s surprise. My favorites, Dr. Pepper and Kit Kat bars. Unfortunately, he left them on the ground by mailbox. He called me when he got back home and told me to look outside. When I found my treat, I discovered the ants found them first. No matter that I did not get to enjoy them, I was hooked from then on out. :)

dena - The last 4 years our family has had an additional valentine to love on.. for this I am thankful… But this year may be our last with a new addition.. number 4 is rocking my world… but I love him to pieces.

ash - This year will be my first as a married woman. Last year my (then) fiance surprised me with flowers and we watched the movie Fireproof. Not totally romantic but a good reminder for married couples. I might just watch it again this year. :)

Chelsea - My husband and I don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day, since our anniversary is Jan 29. We don’t have any kids yet, but I would love to give this hat to one of our friends who is having their first child (a girl!) in a few weeks!

Shanalea - Well, Valentines may be one of my favorite days but really because my birthday is the next day…I think one of my favorite is when my then fiance gave me a pair of beautiful earrings. I have no idea where they are now, but they were one of the best gifts ever.

Ali Richardson - When my husband and I were dating, he wanted to surprise me on V-day. He knew I loved eating in front of a fireplace and since he didn’t have one in his house at the time, he got creative. He ordered one of those videos of a crackling fireplace (sound effects and all) and moved the dining room table into the living room in front of the tv. When I got there, the crackling fire was roaring in front of a romantic dinner that he had cooked. No wonder I married that guy!!!

Ingrid - probably my most strong valentines memory is a singles picnic i went on – it was a group of us that didn’t have a valentine getting together to eat yummy food and enjoy hanging out :)

Donna - I got a tatoo on the Valentine’s Day I was 17. Ugh. What was I thinking?

Leisha - My favorite memory is a general one. My mom made us the most original valentines every year. They were always homemade and I loved getting them. She was always careful to sign them Love, Dad and Mom. I remember thinking that was cool to put my dad first and it is something that I write on my kids’ valentines to this day.

maegan - Nothing really stands out to me….except for today when we arrived home to see a tall, skinny rectangular box left on the porch from the FedEx man. The whole time I was opening it I could not come up with any ideas as to what might be in there. It was a 5 foot tall rose! With an included 4 foot tall vase. For some reason it makes me laugh every time I see it!

Amanda - The other day, my husband and I were discussing how commercialized Valentine’s Day is and how hard it is to want to go out to celebrate it because it’s SO CRAZY! Then my husband said “Why do I have to have just ONE day to celebrate my love for you? Why can’t it be celebrated every day?” I have mixed feelings about this statement. On one hand it’s very cute and thoughtful, on the other, I like Valentine’s Day! All in all, I have the best husband ever and am very lucky to have him! Since he is working every night all weekend I think I’ll make a fun breakfast for him on Sunday morning. And this is our first year with our daughter who we also love very much! So I think it’s time to get some fun traditions going.

Britney B - Valentine’s day never seemed like a big deal in my house growing up, but every year, my mom somehow always surprised us with a nice card and a little gift before we left to school. It was such a nice treat and made me feel so special and loved!

Charity - Growing up, Valentine’s Day wasn’t celebrated huge at our house. But now being married…why not…I’ll take some pampering!

Teresa J - While dating, my then bowfried left a rose for me in my school locker (I don’t know how it got there), I then proceeded to find them everywhere; in my car after work, on my desk at home, etc. It all ended with him giving me the 12th rose in person along with a beautiful letter for wrote for me.

He’s such a great valentine :)

Jodi - It’s Valentine’s Day everyday! The best one was last year, the 4 of us as a family celebrated together with a huge Valentine’s breakfast and special treats. I love having little girls and being able to dress them up in coordinating Valentine’s outfits!

Jenny - My birthday is February 13th so we always celebrate a day early. Fine by me! We miss the crowds and it’s just as romantic. :)

mrs doodle - My husband has always been awesome on every holiday but he is extra awesome on Valentine’s Day:) He ALWAYS sends me flowers and makes sure to get me a mushy card. I love that:)

Lildudesmama - The year my husband and I were engaged, we got matching tattoos on Valentine’s Day, of our own Zodiac signs. It sounds wildly trashy, I know. But it was sweet and sentimental and the right thing for us. Now, we have a 2year old daughter, and we view the holiday in a more traditional way. :)

Meredith - For 4 years in Elementary School I was sick (strep throat) EVERY SINGLE Valentine’s Party at school. I missed 4 in a row…Not an issue any more, in fact I just got back from my daughters first pre-school valentine’s party! FUN and LOTS of sugar! :) Thanks for a great giveaway!

jody - Making a HUGE heart with my 2 year old out of tons of tissue paper!! so colorful & so fun.

Jami Schoettler - The Valentines day that I was pregnant with my 1st baby and gaining weight, my sister was losing weight by not eating. I worked at a grocery store and bought 3 huge boxes of candy for a buck each after it was reduced. I brought them to her knowing she couldn’t resist. And she ate every little piece. A box of chocolate cover fortune cookies, a box and truffles shaped like seashells, and a heart box of your regular valentine chocolate variety. ?

Lesley - I love Valentine’s Day! My husband’s aunt and grandma always host a “love feast” complete with heart-shaped hamburgers, love gifts, a love dance and everyone has to say at least one thing they love about someone else.

Holly - My favorite thing about Valentines day is the card I get from my dad, it always make me feel special.

Jaclyn - I love helping my kids make Valentine’s cards! I remember it being so fun when I was a kid and I now I get to share that with them.

jill - love valentines day. i love all of the weddings we go to on that day. we have one this sunday!

Cindy - I love Valentines Day… just makes me happy! My 1st son was born the day after Valentines Day & my favortie Valentines memory is being big and pregant and meeting my husband at the park for lunch and fun with out oldest child. My Son will be 5 Feb 15th, hard to believe!!!

Megan H - One year I elected to have foot surgery on Valentines Day. I figured since I didn’t have a significant other I shouldn’t have to endure the holiday. Now I love sharing the day with my husband. Love the pictures of you and baby sister!

robyn - i went to visit my son’s preschool on valentines day. i found it to be the most overwhelming thing EVER with all the hand made crafts and valentines from all the kids… it scared me. now, he’s almost 4, and today was his valentines party at school and it was SO cute and he had so much fun putting his valentines in all the bags for his friends!
but i think valentines is a hallmark holiday that makes people without hubbies/boyfriends/partners sad.

Mandy - I just love the candy – mmmmmm!! This year we’re getting our kids balloons, and I hope that will become tradion – - LOVE the hats!!

laura - dressing up and going downtown to watch “an affair to remember” at the old theater with my incredible husband.

Abby - Your great grandpa reads your blog!! OMG that rocks!! I can’t even get my inlaws to turn on the pc we gave em *sigh*. I wish I had a valentines memory so I could enter to win one of these cuties but I’m drawing a blank!!

Ang - For our first Valentine’s day as a couple (before we were married or even engaged), Ryan gave me my gift via a friend (Kay) in a Victoria Secret bag. What?! I don’t remember what the gift was, but it definitely was NOT something from Victoria Secret.

Natalie M. - My husband decided that instead of celebrating valentine’s day he would just do random sweet things all year long, it lasted one year:) ( he still does sweet things just not the v-day type stuff)

Becca - Hi Ashley! I’m a new reader to your blog and have quickly become addicted to it! Your children are absolutely beautiful and you are an amazing photographer! I absolutely LOVE your crafty side too!

I am due to deliver our second child (little girl) in the next two weeks so I am STOKED about this giveaway! I’ve been dying to add one of these cute hats to her wardrobe.

Hmm, my favorite valentine’s memory…the one that is coming to mind right now is two years ago. Our son was only about two weeks old and while I was laying in bed nursing him my husband came strolling in with a yummy breakfast-in-bed platter (including my favorite pink sprinkled donuts)! Melted my heart!

Julia - That hat is too cute! My hubby and I don’t make as big of deal about V-day. We try to celebrate our anniversary with the most pizazz! But thinking about my favorite Valentine’s memory made me think of just three years ago, my Best Friend who I love so very much finally said “I do.” We had prayed and prayed for so many years together for her Prince Charming and we finally realized that God was just growing him up. She met and married Mr. Right who just happened to be 7 years younger than us. It was absolutely beautiful. Definitely one of my favorite Valentine’s Day!

Shauna - my husband+me=slackers Valitines is hard because you have to think ahead. You need to get a babysitter and dinner reservations way in advanced. So, Valentine’s day is hard for me and my hubby. Usually we just do something as a family, play games during nap time, and then watch a romantic movie at night. Good thing we like being together!

Beatrice Killam - Really, who COULD resist a cute hat with a flower on it? I know I couldn’t, especially since I have a little girl at home.

paige - hi ashley! I have been hooked on your blog for a few months now (I emailed you about your backgrounds, THANK YOU by the way for the response, I should have known you created them!). ;) I can’t get enough of your photos, and unique style of craftyness! Plus, I have always dreamed of having 3 boys, and 1 girl – you are SO blessed!

ok, giveaway… maybe if I win I’ll hold onto it for “my girl.” V-day memory: the movie theatre is a huge treat & distant memory these days, so I’m wishing for the days when we would see a cute little romantic comedy. I think the Valentine’s Day movie looks clever! Happy Weekend!

Denette - My hubby always says, “valentines day is a made up holiday to sale more cards!” But, despite his ill feelings for the holiday, he always tries to make it special for me. I love him lots and lots!

Lauren Roberts - This Valentine’s Day will not be on my favorite list. It happens to fall on the Daytona 500, which my husband is a HUGE fan of. No special plans here except racing.

Savannah - Every valentine I spend with my Husband is the best Valentine’s!

Kristina H. - My favorite memory would be the first Valentine’s Day with my husband (he was my boyfriend at the time). He surprised me with roses and chocolates!!! We always tell each other “I love you” every day and we have been married for 18 wonderful years!!

Julie - I was set up on a blind date with a brother of a fellow teacher. Our first date was the night before our school Valentine’s party. This guy knew the school and so he showed up at my classroom during the party with roses. I was mortified! I barely knew this guy and I don’t love attention plus it got all my kids and their parents talking. Needless to say it didn’t exactly work out between us, but I did enjoy the flowers!:)

Stacey b - I’m nt crazy about Valentines BUT I loved it when I was little. My dad would always get me a box of chocolate, sweet card and a stuffed animal! Good memories.

Suzanne - This Valentine’s Day is the first time my hubby has ever sent me flowers. Very pretty and unexpected!

Amber - Hmm well the one that stands out the most was about 8 years ago, and was my first “date” with my husband and my close friend with her now husband. We wore cowboy hats and celebrated Mexican style with a pinata and everything. It was fun, and the beginning of something really special for the 4 of us!

Michele V. - I don’t have any Valentine’s memories that stick out. I did
get a beautiful bouquet of miniture roses today with over 100 roses. I love them!

JennyB - The first V day my husband and I were together he gave me a carpet steamer! LOL-let’s just say I never got “household” presents again on any major holidays.

Rachel - I can’t decide between all the funny Valentine’s I spent with my friends before I was married, or all the sweet Valentine’s I’ve spent with my husband… so many to choose from! :)

miss r - A couple years ago, my fiance gave me flowers, a Slim Jim, candy, and a thoughtful card. I called it the Walgreen’s Vday. He corrected me though, “It was CVS.”

Amnah - I mostly remember the Valentine parties at school. Class parties were the highlight of the school year if you ask me. ;-)

Lisa - A few years ago I decided to surprise my hubby with a Valentine’s Date night in. I put our three small children to bed. I got on a cute little outfit, did my hair and make-up… and had our dinner waiting to pop in the oven as I got the kids to bed. We ate a delicious dinner in front of the fireplace. We had chocolate covered strawberries in the hot tub… and, of course, I had a few surprises (including a complete playlist of our favorite country songs playing in our candle-lit bedroom) for dessert. It was one of the very best dates we have ever had. We had an entire night of great conversation and food and fun – at home. It was such a blessing!

Alicia - Best Valentine’s Day…dozen HUGE pink roses at work. It was a Wed so we were waiting to celebrate until Saturday. On Sat I got engaged! That was 9 years ago this week. =)

Caitlin - My husband got out of work very early today and came home and cleaned our house spotless for my present. That is my new valentines memory. What good are roses in a dirty house?

Faith - I’m not much on Valentine’s Day. But I had a funtastic time today making cards with my 2 year old and a potato stamp!

ashlee - mmmm. was LIVID with my boyfriend for being late to pick me up on Valentine’s. Only to realize he and my roommate had been hatching a plan to surprise me. Ugh. Boyfriend? Now husband.

Amber - I don’t really have good Valentine’s Day memories…except this year. I’m a single mom. So no real date. But my 2 year old daughter tells me “Mommy, you’re my Valentine.” I think I have the best/sweetest date ever this year! :)

Erica Finnan - Never big on Valentines day…but I do remember in grade school, making our neat little valetines boxes. What fun that was to be creative and make our boxes into anything we wanted! Otherwise…now I really don’t pay much attention to valentines day!

Melissa - My husband started a Valentine tradition 2 years ago when I was 7 months pregnant with my daughter. He made “reservations” at Chick-fil-A! They actually had a special restaurant night where they put white linen cloths, flowers, balloons, & candles on the table, had live music, guest portraits made, & a menu to choose from! We went after “couples night” at my Moms-to-Be water aeorbic class, which he gladly participated in. :) It made a perfect, fun, no pressure night with a little romance and tons of fun memories! Last year, we took our daughter with us, as a 9 month old, & she loved it! We plan on making it a family Vday tradition from now on!

Taylor - I had gotten dumped the month before Valentines Day and my mom brought me flowers at work and then had my favorite meal from my favorite restaurant when i got home. It helped me remember that it’s not just about people who love you romantically.

Sharee Ann - i remember exchanging valentines as a kid at school and making special “mailboxes” for them and saying “EW” to the boy ones:)

Lisa @ ElleBows - I remember in the 6th grade a boy that had a crush on me snuck into my backpack a box of chocolates (which melted all over the inside of the bag) and a porcelain cow (why a cow, I am still clueless).

Rachel - I hate that they raise the price of flowers on and around Valentine’s Day so I told me husband when we first started dating that I never wanted him to give in and waste his money on high priced flowers. He loves that I let him off the hook! He does always get me a beautiful card though!

Ashley - Okay this is a funny/sad memory. I really liked this boy named Doug my Junior year of high school and he had asked me to the winter formal which happened to be the weekend of valentine’s day so I expected him to get me something or at least ask me to go “steady” for v-day. Boy did I get my signals all wrong! haha! I recieved nothing but a “hey, what color is your dress again?” I was utterly crushed. We are still good friends and I am happily married (to a different ‘boy’) but I still remember that and it makes me chuckle now. :)

Kate - I like sweet nothings! Little notes, a daisy, a smile.. it works for me!

Maggie Miller - My first Valentine’s Day with my husband (before we were married) I vowed to make him a home cooked meal. The meal was good…dessert on the other hand, BURNT! Alas, my cooking has gotten much better over the years!

Rebecca - Ohhh, well it seems that many of my days have been spent alone with my husband deployed. So, some of my greatest memories are spending the special day with my great girlfriends, trying not to be sad about our husbands being away!

Nicole - My favorite Valentine’s day ever is going to be this one, the first one with both of my sweet daughters. The older one has made me about 42 valentines so far and the baby has given me at least that many snuggles. That, combined with the fact that their daddy is the love of my life and an amazing husband, makes this Valentine’s day perfect!

Autumn - My favorite valentine’s day is when I was in India for the holiday. We went out to Pizza Hut for Valentine’s eve and we had heart-shaped pizzas!

Trinity - When we first got the girls, we surprised them with a fun dinner…we put the table in the living room, decorated it nice, got out the good dishes, and had a nice “grown up” dinner….so fun!

Joann E - My best Valentine’s Day was when my son made me a Valentine :)

Angela - One year my husband gave me a bread maker. On Valentine’s Day. It’s a good thing he told me to look inside. Otherwise I may never have found that necklace he got for me!

Rachel - My favorite valentines day memory has to be from last year when we took my kids to the snow. It was my son’s first time and it was so neat seeing him experience the feel and taste of snow for the first time….

Jenny - I don’t have one special Valentine’s Day that sticks out but growing up my Mom and Dad would always give my sister and I a fun little package and that always made our day!

Teresa - My favorite ice cream flavor is peppermint from Braums. Well my husband wanted to bring some home for Valentine’s day and went to several locations to try and find a gallon of peppermint ice cream to buy. Well everyone was sold out, then one of the Braum’s locations offered to sell a box of peppermint ice cream (this is the box that is out in the store that they dip from). Well the sweet husband that I have was not coming home without peppermint ice cream. He bought the box of ice cream and surprised me with it. The sad thing was that the box would not fit in our freezer. I love him!!!

Jamie Herring - One day when I was about fourteen, my mom told all of us kids to dress up and come to dinner.
We all dressed in our nicest clothes and came down to a beautiful, candle lit table.
The atmosphere was pretty casual, but it is still one of my favorite memories from my childhood.

Sarah - I do not like receiving flowers. The first year my husband sent me flowers I made it abundantly clear that I don’t like flowers (or so I thought). Well…Valentines Day came around the next year and low and behold I got flowers. I am a teacher and my husband sent myself, my co-teacher, and my entire class flowers. To this day he says I never told him about my dislike for flowers. I am waiting to see if flowers show up at our house tomorrow.

Suzanne - Thank you for sharing the highlights links. I have been reading for a few months, and I am totally taken with your craftiness and creativity.

I was reading through some on my normal blog reads yesterday, and was pleasantly surprised to see your doily table runner on an Inspired By post on Frenchie and Flea http://frenchieandflea.blogspot.com/2010/02/diy-love-note-music-sheets-pinata-found.html

Have and great day, and thank you for sharing!

Renee - Before I married my husband, I was very jaded about love. I have the fondest memories of my 21st Valentine’s Day where a friend and I changed the lyrics to love songs to be not so love songs. We called our group Jaded and said we were going on a world tour against love. It’s still one of my best Valentine’s Day memories because we laughed until we cried (joyous tears) and filled our day with the love of friendship!

Callie B - My favorite Valentine’s Days have been since I had kids….heart shaped pancakes for breakfast and some crafty fun later in the day.

perches - So adorable (hat and baby)!!

Melanie Schall - The very first Valentines Day with my husband (boyfriend at the time) we had a really romantic evening planned. But that week he got really sick. So we missed Valentines day. The following day he was feeling much better so he surprised me at work with flowers and chocolates, took me home to an outfit he bought for me and took me out on the town. Wouldn’t have been as wonderful if things had gone to plan. Shows what great things can come from missing set plans.

Ashley SP - My husband and I spent our first valentine’s day together…not being together. We were trying to be “Just Friends”. That didn’t work out, obviously!

I think we watched terrible movies and probably ate some terrible food. Pewee’s Big Adventure and White Castles if I remember correctly. Yuck.

Amber - My Mom always made it a fun family day with heart shaped toast, jelly, etc for breakfast and conversation hearts in with lunch, and some special little gift when I was little. I hope to repeat that with my little one.

Anna Marie - My first kiss happened on Valentine’s Day weekend. And I married that man…yes I did! ;)

emmylou - When I was in college I was dating a guy & agreed to go to a valentine’s dance with him. He set up his brother with my friend & we had a few other couples we were going bowling with afterwards. By the time the dance came around I couldn’t stand the guy anymore but couldn’t really back out because of my friend. He was one of those guys who seemed to think men were much smarter than women. It was miserable having to dance & smile when I really didn’t like the guy. I was SO glad when that night was over.

Tanya M - My most memorable Valentine’s are from when I was dating my husband. He’s always show up with the best flowers! I just loved being in love.

DIY {card book}

UPDATE: CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED Charity’s comment is the last counting one.

In the course of  500 posts, I have learned a few things from blogging. Here’s a few:

1. You truly can meet incredible people online. I now have a circle friends that I feel like I know, despite I’ve never met them in person. I know their voice, just haven’t heard it audibly. My life is more full as a result of their influence and growing friendships.

2. Everyone likes an easy craft….so I’ll share one today.

When we opened presents as a family at Christmas we talked to the kids about what gifts God had given them in 2009….then we talked about what kinds of gifts we could give God in 2010. In case you are curious, Big Brother wants to give God lots of Legos in 2010. I wrote down what everyone said and knew I wanted to make a small little notebook to record what was said this year and in the years to come. I also knew I wanted it left out so we could read what was said (I knew I’d forget mine!). It is February and I finally got around to making my book. I had a stash of 5×7 cards that didn’t have envelopes, so I used those to make the book….this is a cute idea with envelopes too (store things in the ‘pages’).

I worked on my book while Big Brother worked on his letters…the whole project took about 15 minutes.
2.10cardbook-1

Step 1: I cut one card in half to make a front and end sheet (not necessary)

Step 2: Use tape (I used pretty masking tape) to tape the cards together

Picture 3: All my ‘pages’ taped together2.10cardbook-3

Step 3: Cut paper for the cover. I used double sided cardstock scrapbooking paper. Amy Butler collection (thanks sis)

Step 4: Punch holes in the front and back sides of the cover…on the far left and far right (not top and bottom)

Step 5: Embellish your cover. I used more paper and masking tape.2.10cardbook-6

Step 6: Attach your cover to the pages to using masking tape again

Step 7: Run a ribbon through the holes to tie the book shut

Step 8: I taped tags on each ‘card’ to designate whose page it is…remember I am using my to record things over the course of years.2.10cardbook-92.10cardbook-122.10cardbook-14

3. Another thing I have learned is that there is some unreal creative talent and inspiration out there. A while back I came across the cutest little bags/wallets and have been anxiously waiting for the fabric combination that screams “This bag was made for you Ashley!”

Well while I wait….Gussy is giving one away to you!

Pretty Little Things

UPDATE: CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. The last counting comment is Courtney’s “a blank canvas~a painted canvas~friends and their creativity”. Winner to be announced.

First, let me say “Yes!” I read all your comments. I love reading them and really enjoyed seeing what posts stood out to each of you. Thanks for sharing that. Secondly, I want to point out that the baby pictures yesterday were of Baby Sister. There seemed to be some confusion on that from more than one person. In fact her daddy called from Haiti and commented that she had “thinned out” while he was gone. The truth is he has my 50mm lens, my 85mm lens was too narrow for the crib, so I used my 28mm lens…it distorts a little.

One of the things I enjoy about having a blog is I have a place to share random pictures that I have fun taking, but won’t necessarily frame on my living room wall. So in honor of that, here are some pretty little things I’ve enjoyed lately….

My daughter is a pretty little thing. Her thighs are pretty…not so much little. She has watched her brothers flip around on the floor too many times. The big thing in the background is a painting I did several years ago, I still like it but can’t figure out what to do with it. It’s a big pretty thing.2.10prettylittle-01

Scraps of old sheets people used to sleep on Reclaimed Bed Linens from Whimsie Dots. I want to make a quilt like this.

2.10prettylittle-02

My sweet friend. She is a pretty little thing…she has a pretty huge heart. 2.10prettylittle-03

Pink Legos…now life is as it should be in our home. Pink Legos….PINK LEGOS! The boys are loving them, which cracks me up. Baby Sister will thank Grandma one day.2.10prettylittle-04

Pretty little watercolors. I advise against sitting your coffee next to the watercolor water. If you accidentally dip your paint brush in your coffee instead of the water you are forced to decide between drinking the contaminated coffee or taking the effort to make another perfect cup. Watercolor paints don’t have lead in them, do they? Guess I’ll find out.

I am making too many pillows these days. They are just so fast and easy and we are kind of fond of pillow fights around here. This one is too pretty for fighting with though.2.10prettylittle-05

Count down for Daddy’s return on the chalkboard wall. Sometimes countdowns make it seem longer…2.10prettylittle-06

Sweet handmade card from this gorgeous girl.2.10prettylittle-07

The local fabric store had a 50% off everything sale. It started at 7:00am, but I couldn’t go since Chris is gone. My mom went with me a few days earlier to see what I liked. She and my aunt started the line outside the store at 6:00am! Thanks mom for my fun new fabric! Paint by number fabric….love it!2.10prettylittle-09

Sand that just makes me happy from Daisy Days.2.10prettylittle-10

And today’s giveaway is your choice of posters from PaperRelish on etsy….seller of my Pretty Little Things poster in Baby Sister’s nursery!

It does not have to be the Pretty Little Things poster, go check out her other items. Aren’t you so excited?

planning on how to decorate my baby girl room. i’m 23 weeks pregnant and can’t wait to meet her.
the curtins in our room.
and the scrapbook that i made for my son

Heather King - My favorite pretty little thing right now is my son who is pretending I can’t see him even though he’s standing right in front of me… ahhh 2 year olds :)

ErikaKay - The earth and all its bounty is so pretty! Especially now when we have fluffy white snow coming down!

ashlee - my sweet Mercy’s smile, old Amy Butler fabric, and a vintage chenielle bedspread. I love the colors in that painting!

Ashley C. - My favorite pretty little thing is my new studio (ok, reclaimed bedroom) where I’ve created some (I think) amazing things. My brain comes to life in this room and I love it!

mrs doodle - OMG why can’t you be my neighbor or best friend – ha or both! :) I know we would be friends, great ones:) he he Anyways… I am smiling so big on this post. I love that little one trying to do a flip – that reminds me of my little girl when she was that age. I swear she would rather be upside down than right side up and still is that way at 2! And those pink legos. Somehow I have missed those. My husband has a plastic STORAGE bin FULL of legos that he can’t wait to take out to play with our daughter. (let’s just say your boys would be in HEAVEN if they saw that bin!) We might have to add some pink to all those primary colored legos very soon! I need to make one of those ruffled pillows, very soon! And I am so jealous you scored that paint by number fabric!!! Lucky you! And last but certainly not least – girl that nursery – I want to live in that room! For reals!

I am enjoying my pretty little 2 year old daughter!!! Dreaming about what her little sister is going to be like when she arrives in April. Pretty little girls;0)

watching a rose unfurl into a bloom
a beautiful handwritten note

So far we have blue, lime green and lots of chalkboard paint. Very pretty things! And PaperRelish has plenty of things I want!!

Kari S - My daughter! And I love your new blog header of pictures, I especially love the one of all your kids standing up showing their bare feet- PRICELESS!!!

laura - my baby boy’s eyes….although my husband might prefer i call them “handsome” over “pretty little things.” handmade valentines. little girl laughs. paper white lilies.

Diana - Although we have snow EVERYWHERE right now, ohh how I love a fresh vase of huge sunflowers in the summertime from our local farmers market! One of my other favorite pretty things is our sweet baby girls fiercely curly (think Shirley Temple)hair! Oh what I wouldn’t give to have beautiful hair like hers.

Jennifer Ross - To be honest, lately I’ve been a web stalker to you and a few others to look at pretty little things. I almost think it’s a sin because ya’ll make everything look so pretty and so easy, and I’m not that savvy. So, to stay focused, I’ve limited my stalking to once a day during my lunch break (I am a high school teacher).
Other pretty little things I love lately:
*my kids artwork, specifically the Valentine’s heart cut-outs with fuzzy balls on them.
*Also, my 5 year old and I made the wax paper crayon hearts that you posted a few weeks ago (while 3 year old was asleep). I love the way it looks!
*my 3 year old son’s face when he’s listening to music. He really jams out. And he is so pretty!
*my daughter’s sweet eyes and giggles when we read Junie B. Jones together.
*the mountains (small but still called mountains) in my town. Today there is a little snow falling on them. Really pretty to see God’s handiwork in such a natural state.

Love,

Alex - Too late for this! Bummer, because the “pretty little things” poster is my favorite pretty little thing! I’ve been reading your blog for a year now and just decided to comment. When I get out of my dingy, roommate infested college house, I hope to have a home and family as beautiful as yours!

Glad to be back…now let’s get to celebrating!

UPDATE: Contest is now over, Heather’s comment will be the last one to count

Did you miss me? “AHHHHHHHHHHH” that is what I have to say about the last few days dealing with this blog. After so many problems with one hosting company I decided to switch hosting companies and hired out another company to do it for me. Obviously, something went wrong. It is fixed now. Thanks for all your emails checking in on me. Did anyone else notice that Google Reader picked up that my blog was gone? Figures.

This makes me happy though.

I had BIG plans for today’s post and for this week. Chris has been in Haiti since last week and I was hoping to use my evenings for a little blog makeover and writing some fun celebration posts for a BIG REVEAL today. “Celebrating what?” you ask. My 500th post! I had planned for it to fall on today and for it to accompany all kinds of other new stuff on the blog. Well turns out I opted to share Chris’ twitter account on Thursday (which got lost in the transfer mess and I re-posted today) – with no mention of it being my 500th post. So what was suppose to be a fun celebration just kind of got lost in a blog disappearance.

2.10ZoeLynn-03

But that is okay…I used all that extra time to work on the boy’s room…which is now about 6 steps closer to being finished.2.10ZoeLynn-04

So…what to do now? Still celebrate, just a little bit at a time I guess. Instead of a Big Reveal today, I’ll just add a bit each day until I get it all done. Here are some things to look forward to in the coming days….

* 5 Super awesome giveaways!
* Fun pictures of course
* A few new blog features
* Highlights from the first 500 posts

Your pictures inspire as well as point out that life with boys is so much fun. The post that stands out in regards to life with your boys is them splashing in puddles! AS for your beautiful baby girl I enjoy seeing all your day to day portraits. Looking forward to someday having a girl of my own. Thank you for sharing your life you are truly inspirational!!!

Amanda - It’s hard to pick a favorite post because I absolutely love everything about your blog… but the post that you did about finishing your 2009 album was wonderful – I get so focused on all the details of doing an album, and I lose sight of the fact that the pictures are what really matters. It’s not the paper or the embellishments that make the album, it’s the pictures. After your post, I finally started my daughter’s first year album (she’ll be 8 months old on Saturday, so I’m a bit behind), and I’m proud of myself for how far I’ve gotten! Thank you so much for being an inspiration!

keely - Yeah, that IS a tough assignment! I love your DIY’s, the crafty things you do with your boys and any post dedicated to your lovely home!

Theresa - Congrats on your 500th blog post! I have a lot of favs, but the one that got me started reading your blog(& my favorite) was about your daughter’s room. I found the article on design sponge & mosied on over to your blog and have been hooked ever since!! Honorable mentions would be your kitchen remodel & your twisted tea/lemonade concoction. I make it all the time now! Keep up the good work =)

Meagan - One of my favorites was the “You’re Gonna Miss This” post. Anytime I hear that song I think of it!

Mandy B - One of my favorite blog posts (besides my own family pictures) was the pics you took of Rob and Rachel with their new baby. It was a great celebration of their journey and a much anticipated photo session!!

Jeannette Swan - Are you kidding? Pick my favorite out of 500 – I don’t know if anyone could do that!!!! I don’t even know how far back 500 goes…I love all your posst – you inspire me like no one else to “try” to be crafty – I brought my chalk board home from Hobby Lobby today – can’t wait to hang it. I love your posts about making a difference in our world and I love all the amazing pictures of your beautiful family!! You are amazing and again, thank you for sharing your gifts with all of us.

Holly L. - I seriously can’t pick just one favorite. This one is one of my top picks though :

http://ashleyannphotography.com/blog/2009/10/22/she-left-proof-aleidas-challenge/

I love all of your photography, and how you just seem to enjoy life with your rug-rats. I love that you are capturing these precious and fleeting moments of having small children. Most of all, you have helped me to see that I need to do the same in my life. Slow down and enjoy my little girls, and remember to catch those moments on camera too!

I’m so glad your blog is back! I was getting worried I’d lost it and your inspiration forever!

Desiree - I’ve been following you since your DIY on the doily canvas bag was featured on Design*Sponge, and I have to say, your blog has awakened my need for creativity! (Which I’ve worked so hard to suppress while I’m in grad school!) My favorite post is the visit to Grandpa’s farm with the baby goat and Big Brother. This post inspired me to take the leap and buy my first dslr (Canon XSi). I wish you had SnapShops in San Diego!

haley - there you are!!! glad you are back at being a celebrity to all of us!!!

Mandy - I just found your blog a couple of weeks ago and WOW, I’m hooked! I love the pictures of your daughter on a bed with brightly colored Amy Butler-esque pillows. Your photography is unbelieable, and she’s a cutie!! Also the pics of your boys jumping on the bed. Well, I just love it all!

Susan - The Stolen hat! It just makes me laugh and it’s a reminder of how to turn a frustrating situation into something good.

Michelle - I love all of your DIY projects and also seeing your fun ideas you’ve done with your boys. As a mom of a 1 1/2 year old, it’s given me lots of ideas!

Julie - I do love all of your posts! But the one that stands out to me is when you shared how you keep a glass of dirty water out to remind your boys that not everyone has clean water. I’m inspired by the example you set for your children to think of the world beyond them!

annie - let’s see, I’m fairly new – my favorite has got to be celebrating boys, brothers and all things male – i have two boys and one girl – the boys are close in age and the best of friends and worst of enemies and everything in between. I look forward to seeing them grow into the men they will become and journey they have together. seeing your boys wrestle in pictures – might as well have been taken at my house -it is the best kind of challenge!

miss r - (I’m a newer reader.) I loved the Doily Canvas Bag post. It was a really fun project to do on my own and then again with my niece.

linda - My baby girl is 22 so the sweet little offerings should go to someone that can actually enjoy them!

So glad you’re back, thanks keeping at it to get you, and us, back to normal.

The pictures of your sweet little girl are BEAUTIFUL, really lovely, thanks for sharing her and your equally adorable boys with the rest of us.

peace to you …

lauren ingersoll - how can i pick a favorite? i just discovered your blog a few weeks ago and become an instant fan. I love, photography, crafts, and cute kids. a perfect combination. one of my favorite finds is the adorable gracious may shoes!

Moriah - I love your DIY with the birds on canvas. I just went to the craft shop today to buy materials for my own DIY on canvas. I can’t wait to try mod podge. Thanks for the inspiration!

Stacey - I don’t really have a favorite post. I just found your blog recently. I’ve read as far back as your announcement of baby girl’s name (beautiful by the way). You have a beautiful family but what strikes me most is the way you capture your family. I love my dslr, but I’ve yet to find a way to capture my family in the way that you do! Your pictures are such an inspiration. So if I have to choose a favorite post, it would be the one with the cat eye glasses onesie…little miss looks precious in those pictures!

Carrie - It’s hard to pick a favorite post, since they are all inspiring to me, but I would have to say my favorite was the post on saving your photos. It made me bite the bullet and start burning my years and years worth of pics on to CD’s. It is a slow process, but it makes me feel much better to know that all my precious pictures of my kids won’t be lost forever if something happens to my pc (which is just a matter of time, haha!). Thanks for taking the time to be an ispiration!!

JennyB - I love your blog and I am a faithful follower ever since I saw your post on the Doily Canvas Bag-lurve it!

Jill J - 500 posts, WOW! I have enjoyed every one (that I’ve read). The first post that I read was the pallet bed you made for your daughter’s room. But, my favorite is either the dirty water that you gave to your kids for dinner…(um, does that make sense?) That one touched me. Or the one where you went flying for your birthday. That one was AWESOME!

It is so cool that your hubby is in Haiti! Good for you all doing God’s work!

dena - I loved your pirate eye patch post.. and the post with the how to modge podge clothes pins.. your craft ideas are great!

Melissa - I LOVED the one demonstrating how you taught your boys about other children having to drink dirty water. You put glasses of dirty water on the table and then discussed how as a family you could donate a water filter so that children in other countries could have clean water. Ashley, you are so inspiring how to take your kids on moral/spiritual field trips and teach them hands on life lessons they will never forget. I am storing these away for when my Lily is old enough to comprehend, which won’t be too long in the future!!! Thank you.

Mara - All of your posts are so great, the pictures of your kids make it all worth it. But the DIY crafts are what I crave the most. My favorite post is the “Christmas Gathering…My Projects” post with links to all of your holiday crafts… I can’t tell you how many I made and loved. Thanks again and congratulations!!

Elizabeth - I loved your post about picking out a christmas tree and each year you had another child!…too cute!

Kaitlyn - Yeah for giveaways! I just started following your blog after I found your valentine crayon shavings post. I made it and my son loved it. I would love to learn more about photography eventually and it seems like you are happy to share tips. Good blog. Good blog indeed.

ashley - Gosh I love almost all of your posts. I’ve only been following a few months but I really liked your kitchen remodel and the quilt you made to donate. You’re so clever and crafty. I wish some would rub off on me!

Cara L - i love the pictures you post of your little girl! she is beautiful and her eyes are just gorgeous! it inspires me to take pics of my baby coming in september!

Kari S - I loved the Christmas Gathering post of all your projects! Actually, I haven’t read a post yet that I didn’t like! You do such a great job!!!

Amber - I enjoy all your posts for different reasons, especially the DIY projects, but the ones that I admire the most are the ones where you teach your kids about giving to others. Teaching my son (and the ones to come) to love, care, and give to others, is very important to me and my husband, and I like hearing your ideas… it makes me think of new ideas too.

Amy - My favorite post? Can I answer ALL of them! I really like the posts with photo tips. If I have to pick just one….I will say todays just to make it easy on me! :)

Kim Baker - My favorite was your 30 th birthday post. I think the airplane ride was super sweet and creative, go Chris!!

Kaley - Well, I started reading your blog after Ohdeedoh posted the photos of your daughter’s beautiful room, so I’m gonna have to say that was my favorite post! But since then I have loved checking your blog every day and admiring your beautiful photos!!!

Lesley - Um, yeah, talk about IMPOSSIBLE! I have favorites in different categories, so here goes!: funny post = baby girl’s hat, oldest nephew = vacation posts, middle nephew = the goat whisperer, youngest nephew = the water boy, baby sister = 6 months or day in the life of, recipe = chocolate bavarian torte, room = nursery and totally random = carrie underwood rock band mic, just to name a few :) I’m sure I’ll have a new favorite, but that will come in the future ;) Love you and congratulations on 500!!!

laura - i discovered your blog via your nursery post (was it apartment therapy or design sponge?). i still love it!

Margie - Yay, your back! I think my favorite was the post with your boys jumping in puddles….they looked like they were having soooo much fun!

Michelle M - I have only been following your blog for about a month now, but I love the adorable librarian onesie you made for your daughter!! I have really enjoyed your pictures! Thank you so much for sharing these bits of you life with us! :)

lorae - Favorite was the one that introduced me to your blog. Design Sponge covering Baby Sister’s room. Thank you for all the laughs and sometimes tears.

MLC - I loved your post about the lady stealing Breece’s hat at Hobby Lobby… not because it happened to you, but because I would have cried too and have been known to go back to every store I’ve been to looking for one of my little girl’s bows! I could totally sympathize with you!

Mary Craig - I LOVE this blog. Found it a few weeks ago. I think my favorite is when you showed pictures of your living room and the big picture you took of all the shoes lined up. Loved that. And our baby girls are the same age!

Kaitlyn - I don’t comment much but I have followed along with your blog for a while now! I have to say this is my favorite post: http://ashleyannphotography.com/blog/2010/01/11/gracious-may-designer-feature-session/ because I just love that last picture of all their little feet!
This one would have to be a close second because it is just so fun and cute: http://ashleyannphotography.com/blog/2009/07/20/my-life/
LOVE those new pictures of Breese… she is just beautiful!

candace - congratulations! love the black and whites AND her eyes. favorite posts: 1.”she left proof” and 2.”the goat whisperer” because 1.makes me wish i had more pics with my mom and 2. that is so my husband when he was a kid. can’t wait to see what all you have planned this week!

Heather King - I love them all… I’m a huge fan of anything featuring the boys being brothers as my second boy is due this month and I am looking forward to their brotherhood, but the one that stands out to me is your kitchen remodel… to see a room that so aptly screams “ASHLEY AND CHRIS LIVE HERE!!” and to know that its possible to do that on a small budget and a little creativity is a great encouragement!

Rachel - I haven’t read all 500 posts yet, but I love all the pictures and I must say that the post about how to make that layered cake…I made it and I have to admit that it was hard for me to share it with my husband and daughters!

Lindsey Claassen - I love any post that shows your decorating because I love seeing how every woman creates a home that reflects her lifestyle and passions.

Christy Pair - My fav post is wehn you announced you were expecting little sister. I am mama to a girl (2.5) and twin boys (8 months). My kids are blessed to have the experience of having brothers AND a sister. I am beyond blessed to have them!

ashlee - rice night is my favorite. we are doing our first one this week:) everyday i look forward to your posts!!

Dick - I really enjoyed the post and pictures of the boys jumping in the puddles a couple weeks ago.

Erica - My favorites are always the ones with photos of your beautiful baby girl! Your boys are adorable too but my daughter (& only child so far) is just a couple months behind yours & she reminds me a lot of my girl. Love your blog!!

Kristi - I agree with so many of the comments saying its hard to pick just one. Your pictures inspire me so much to want to learn to be a better photographer. I liked the one recently when you answered the questions we asked you. I love all the ones of the boys and legos too! Glad you are back! Congrats on the 500th post!

Allison - One of my favorite posts (hard to pick just one) but was one you did around the Country Music Award time. You had the lyrics of a song with pictures of your family. It made me think of mine and brought a tear to my eye!

KTMerl - I would have to say the eyeglasses onesie…love it!

Amy - I am a pretty new follower…within the past week or so…but now your blog is one I check almost daily! I love looking at all of your photos of your sweet kids. Makes me even more excited for having my own someday (Lord willing!) :) I love how your posts capture everyday life…and thumbing through past posts I would say one of my favorites is the “my life” post back when you were describing life with a new baby girl. Keep up the great work!

whitney freeman - I think my favorite (or one of the many favorites) has to be the one when posted the Christmas ornaments. I did not put up a tree this year for so many reasons. I love the ornaments that you also use for baby showers. Such an amazing idea to share thoughts of love with someone special! I love everyday though….you inspire my craftiness!!

Karla - My favorite was your pallet reading bed post. It’s number one on my to-do list – if only I can find such great heavy duty pallets! Love your blog!

Jill R - Too many favorites to choose. Loved the post on “rest” a few weeks ago. Love any and all posts with boys playing outside! (and soon baby sister joining them….) Especially if they are with goats. I still get tears thinking about the one of H and the baby goat. ;) So sweet.

Holly Todd - My favorite post was the on the day of the CMA’s and we played the game. So much fun!!

~abi~ - since i actually started following your blog, my fave post was probably the one w/ the colored snow in the bathtub…because it was just so cool and fun and creative, like all your posts are! but after digging through your archives, i also love the one showing how to build the pallet bed!

Samantha - My favorite posts are the ones that I can “copy”… because, thanks to you, Ashley, Ellie’s announcement photos were darling, I have a pair of pants that both kids wore hanging up in the nursery to remind me to love the normal days, and while I can’t talk Ben into a chalkboard wall, he’s {going to have to} consent to a “chalkboard canvas”. :) So, whether or not I win the prize, I’ve already won!

Danielle Townsend - I AM SOO HAPPY YOU’RE BACK!!! What with all my plans to copy your life, I was having a hard time doing so without being able to stalk properly. Seriously. I have big ol’ plans to make a fireplace mantle just like yours (kinda)…. so, I guess your family room reveal is one of my favorites. It is exactly my taste, BUT, not my husbands. Oh well. You’re awesome, sooo glad you’re back. (Did I already say that?)

Kaley - I was just reading back over the posts from the last year and I changed my vote, my favorite is from 1/22/09, about the trapeze. I love that you were once offered a job as a trapeze instructor at Club Med, because I actually did that for a few years! Love it!

shelby rice - My favorite was the post that had the pictures of your grandfather with your little girl. Made my heart completely melt.

Tracy - I just want to say congrats on 500 posts!! I stumbled onto your blog only a couple of days ago and have been reading my way through..slowly though…lots of great inspo and craftiness to digest!!! I LOVE your blog…sooo inspiring!

Tracey B - I don’t know if I could pick a favorite post. I get so many ideas and so much inspiration for what to do with my own kids and in photography that I couldn’t just pick one post. My husband I both enjoy checking to see what is new. Happy 500th!

Robyn Farmer - I am a recent follower that has gone back through and looked at old posts and adore almost all of them. I love the cat-eye onsie you made and all the diy tutorials as well as the lego snapshots.

Suzanne Green - I loved your recent Q&A about photography. And really any of you DIY projects. You are so creative and generous w/ your talents!!

Kate - I was hooked on your blog when you told me the hat lost in Hobby Lobby story. I wanted to run out and find it for you. You rock!

Courtney - I LOVE all your creative ideas! I just recreated your baby closet organizers for my little girl who is one the way…so that has been one of my favorites!

sirje - my favourite is when the photo albums arrived….I want to do it exactly the same way when I have kids.

Lindy - I loved any blog entry that included details of your daughters nursery…I don’t have kids yet, and my husband insists we will have all boys, but seeing the creative techniques you used decorating her room makes me want a girl soooooooooo bad!

Alicia - The “straw in yogurt” changed our lives. ;)

Erin - my favorite post is the one where you share your photo albums from My Publisher…you inspired me and i am now in the midst of making my first album from that same site! thanks!!

Jaclyn - I love your posts about having boys. After having 2 girls who are both very girly. I now have a baby boy and am enjoying all the boy stuff. It is fun to see someone celebrating how much fun boys can be for a mom as well.

Brooke Bauman - Who can pick just one? One of the posts that comes to mind is when you were trying to figure out what the mystery black foam was that you kept finding all over the house. Turns out your son was biting pieces off the dry eraser to “hydrate” himself. Love 3-year-old responses.

Julie R - I ADORE the hats with little bills in front. Too cute! Your blog is relatively new to me, but I LOVE the DIY doily canvas bag you made. I still have yet to do it, but it’s on my to-do-list!

Erin Jones - My favorite was the dresses for Africa post. I thought the dresses that were made by your group of friends and your family were just beautiful!

Ruth - My fave is the one about the playdoh and molding hearts…

KerriHD - I want to pick the very first post that I came across but I just can’t remember because I once I came, I couldn’t leave – it’s all a blur! But… I’ll pick the post about the canvas doily bag. I made them for my kids teachers as Christmas gifts this past year. The kids helped me with them and they enjoyed it so much. Your blog inspired me to get back to my hobbies of crafting – thank you!

Jennifer - I liked the post about your rice dinner that helps the boys collect money and then buy items for people that are in need. This was such a simple idea and I plan to use it in my family.

Courtney H - I have too many favorites to pick just one, but I loved the post that you announced you were having a baby girl. That picture of the shoes is priceless!

Teresa - I love your blog…you are such a talented lady. My favorite blog is the pictures of the endless fun with snow in the bath tub. I know of 3 other friends that follow your blog and did the same thing.

Kristen - I loved the post about all the details in your little girl’s room!

Jodi - Not sure I could pick just one entry…. but my favorite part of the blog is your beautiful photos.

Erin Kirby - I L O V E D your post on the vintage doily table runner. And the one about the re-do of your daughter’s room. And I *really* love all of your nice tips on slr photography, being a nikon slr virgin myself. Thanks for all of your great tips and for the giveaway! :)

Beth - I really don’t think I could pick. I was referencing your recent post about the difference between summer fun and winter fun recently to my husband and just how true it is. I’ll say that one.

Amanda Fuentes - When you guest’ed (is that a word?) on Rachel’s blog at Smile and Wave, it linked me to here and I found your blog. I was very excited to see our youngest girls are only 1 week apart, I love seeing other babies the same ages as mine!

Jewelle - I {loved} your Wii minutes board. I just gotta get my butt in gear and make my own!

Allison - One of my favorite would have to be the quilt you made. It has inspired me to attempt a quilt this year. I have so many favorites, I always enjoy your photos. But the quilt has definitely inspired me.

Brooke - Pick a favorite entry from the 500 amazing ones you post! Oh goodness, that is so hard. I will have to go with the post of your pallet bed however, since that is the first post that brought me to your blog (which I have been indulging in ever since!)

Jodi - It’s way to hard to pick one so I will pick 2. The two blog posts that made me fall in love with this blog…were your nursery and the felt flower tutorial. I have been hooked ever since!!! Congrats on the 500th win! Both of my daughters have crocheted beanies…..we LOVE them! Thanks for the giveaway. I am happy that you are back on line!

Cindy - I love reading all your post, but one of the funiest and my favorites was when you lost the cute hat in Hobby Lobby. I love that you are so hosest and write what all of us are thinking. But especially love that you turned that sad happening into something special with the hat give away.

rachel p - I’m relatively new to your blog, but I was instantly addicted! Littlest brother reminds me a bit of my 18-mo old son :) I’ve read back through a bunch of your older posts, and I’d have to say I loved the post about your son and the goat. Totally made me smile & cry & want to give him a great big hug for being so sweet & loving. And it showed how wonderfully loving a mom you are :)

Natalie M. - Its too hard to pick one! But I love the posts where you have talked about giving your kids rice to teach them what most of the world eats and showing them the dirty water to help them understand what it means to give towards clean water for others. I think that is such a great way to help them understand what it really means when we give and to make them feel more involved. Looking forward to doing the same with my girls ( I have 3).

Jamie - I have lots of faves, but the one that really sticks out lately is the post about the speaking engagement you went to which was inspired by the mom who encouraged everyone stop and take a picture each month with their kids no matter what.

Amber - Ashley, (do you really read all these comments?) I’m the Amber who is your college roommate’s, Mandy, good friend from high school. You and I stayed together before Mandy’s wedding – when you were pregnant with Big Brother :) – and there were those times I came to visit during college. Anyway, I started kind of following your blog when you posted some pictures of Abby. I think almost in the same post as her pictures you promised something good for the next week, and that became your post on Little Dresses for Africa. I loved that! And I’ve loved the ones where you’re teaching your kids how to have compassion for the world around them. I remember ones about a concert, the dirty water, a little girl you met on a mission trip. They’ve played a part in me working to be intentional in cultivating this kind of thing in my children. We just recently gave our Lilyanna a chance to take money out of her piggy bank to send to Haiti. Anyway, there is something to love about your blog everytime I visit!

Trinity - I love all of the posts about adoption/orphan care…I love all of the posts where you tell about life lessons you are learning and how you teach them to your kids…I love all of the posts that give photography tips…BUT I think selfishly, the post I liked the most was the one that announced the snapshop that I quickly replied to and got in! You do a great job Ashley! Congratulations!

mrs doodle - I love the rice for supper post. That was something cool to incorporate into my own life. I LOVE you blog and get so happy when there is a new post:)

Kara - Well I can’t say that I have just one favorite, seeing as how they are all pretty amazing. But I have to say my favorites are the ones where you show your house redecorating process! We are looking for a new house currently and everyday that I see something chic/vintage/DIY I tell my friends that is totally Ashleyann! I have been hitting estate sales and the flea market and you are my inspiration!!

lisa @ ellebows - I just ordered something from this adorable shop :-) Would love to get more though! I love all of your posts, but the most memorable would have to be the one where you gave us a tour of baby girl’s room and that amazing bed!

Lucy - I loved your post about making alphabet books for your kids. My girls are all about writing and drawing so this was right up their alley. And so easy for me! You are amazing!

Denette - I love your blog! The first post of yours that came to mind, was one where you took pics of your kiddos playing in shaving cream!! I did that with my kids the day after I read that post, and several times since!! One of the many great ideas I got from reading your blog! Happy 500th!

Megan H - Hard to choose but the two that stand out the most: seeing pics of Rob and Rachel’s little Griffin and Dresses for Africa.

ae - My favorite post was the one where you gave instructions on how to make the canvas bags with initials on them (on D*S)… because it’s what brought me to the blog!

Sharee Anderson - It is hard to say I have a fav. because I enjoy all of them… but I loved the handkerchief apron tutorial and even made one to go with a baking wedding shower gift theme-she loved it:)

Amanda Mc - It’s too hard to pick a favorite! I love the one about the baby goat :) Makes me miss my childhood growing up out in the country!!

Mandi Smith - For me my favorite was all the crafts that you made up for a Christmas Gathering…I moved away this last year to Wyoming and wasn’t able to enjoy it in person, but having your blog was a little way for me to see what went on and all the good ideas you had:)

I also like just reading the updates on your kiddos, I miss watching them during the Women’s Bible Studies on Thursday mornings…I can’t believe how much H and E have grown…you have such a beautiful family!

Teresa B - I’m new here, so I’ll pick today’s :) I love your blog, and your photography. And, my goodness, those hats are adorable.

Christina - I absolutely love all of your posts – so it is hard to pick just one. But if I have to pick – one of the ones that sticks out most is when you introduced baby girl to your grandpa. I loved how you wouldn’t share the babies name until you told grandpa first – and then you explained the meaning behind the name. I loved this post :)

Alba - I’m really happy that you are back. I considered to email you, but I thought you already have a lot of work with 4 kids. CONGRATULATIONS FOR THE 500 POSTS. Which one do I prefer? I could say any with craft staff, but I’ll take the goatwhisperer because there are a lot of feelings there.

Ashley - Oh my word! Pick ONE?!?!?! This is so hard…I think I really loved the one where we got to see the very first adorable pictures of your daughter…this was 2 months before my first was born and as a brand new mom-to-be I was mesmerized by her. They somehow captured the love of a mother and I recieved an inkling what that was like through those pictures for the very first time. It was a lovely moment.

Lisa - Congratulations on your 500th post! I am somewhat new to your blog. You have encouraged me with so many craft and photo ideas. I have 3 boys and a girl as well. Our princess is our 2nd and loves her brothers. I would just love to get her one of Zoe Lynn hats.

Kelley - Congratulations on your 500th post. I don’t post much, but I read your blog everyday. I also have 3 boys and then I had my daughter. My favorite post would have to be the one about your daughter’s room because it introduced me to your blog.

Seamingly Sarah - I’d have to say my favorite post was the one where you revealed your daughter’s room make over. The painted white floors, the incredible amount of detail and memory and love that went into that room is what hooked me. I’ve been reading your blog ever since. And congratulations on your 500th post! What a milestone.

Jenna - I love your post with the boys playing in the puddles! Those pictures are so precious :)

~jen~ - i am new to the blog, but the post that meant the most to me was the december post that related to an old post on how to capture christmas morning pics – i found your blog days before christmas and took the advice i read and really enjoyed and captured christmas morning :)

jessica ast - I love your faces when your little girl is wearing her girly tutu (August 20th) – and as a mother of two boys, I especially enjoy all your lovely posts about your life with a bunch of wonderful boys.

Kellye Pearson - I have about 5 blogs that I read daily and yours is one of them! I know I found you through another blog (I can’t remember which one) but they linked you the day you made the Cat Eye Glasses Onesie. Since that’s the day I fell in love with your blog, I’m going to say that’s the blog I loved the most! Also, recently you commented on something your mother said about how nothing in your house matches and that’s why everything matches–well, welcome to my life!

Mandy - To choose one post is next to impossible. I think the one that sticks out most to me though is the Little Dresses for Africa. You challenge me with how intentional you are with your time, and I love hearing how your life revolves around things above and how the Father uses you in so many different venues. The Little Dresses for Africa is just one example of the Light in your life and the difference that you desire to make in other peoples lives because of that hope. Thanks for being such an incredible example to all of us.
I, of course, love the post from today as well – you saying that you actually had fun in the snow! I KNEW it was in there! :) Keep up the good work girl! Glad you’re back up and running.

Jackie Walker - My fav is the post on the palette bed because it is the post where I found you. This is one of my top three favorite blogs and I’m so happy to have found it!!

Taylor - MY favorite post was “I can break free from my computer now! {and some of your photography questions}” It really helped me take better pictures with my SLR and inspired me a lot more with photography.

Jennifer B. - I absolutely love ALL of your posts, so it’s hard to pick a favorite. Because I like to be crafty, but am definitely not crafty by nature, I love all of your DIY posts. I really enjoyed all of the posts from the Christmas Gathering because there were so many great project ideas…some even easy enough for me to do! :-) Thanks for continuing to share through your blog. It’s awesome!

trish - favorite- for sure the one of the shoes that announced you were having a baby girl! so so sweet and coolest picture ever!

anne c - I love every post, but I got hooked to your blog after seeing your DIY on the Flapper Flower Clip :) . Now I’m just completely happy with reading anything you have to say…and of course your pictures are always amazing! lots of inspiration around here!!!

Alison R - Okay, I am fairly new to your blog and took a short hiatus to move to Japan and all, but I do know that there are far too many lovely posts to pick just one! You have so much amazing stuff on here! Your DIY’s and photography is inspiring! Congrats on your 500th post!

Christine - I agree with everyone else that it is hard to choose just one, but I like the one about the rice. What a great lesson that you teach your children.

amanda torres - My favorite post was the one where you made the garden and Biggest Brother got mad at you. Love, love, love that. It reminds me of my family!

Erica Finnan - I’m fairly new to your blog (and I love it by the way,) but I still have a hard time choosing just one. I am new to photography and I love looking at your photos…so I guess my favorite is when you answered some questions about taking pictures. I’m all for learning new things!

Stephanie - Because it’s too hard to decide, I’ll choose this one!

karen brown - LOVED the serving-rice-to-the-family post! We did it as part of a fast we did with the kids for a week to raise money to give to the church for Haiti relief. (Gave up things like Dunkin’ DOnuts after swimming lessons, a movie rental, etc.) They were a little skeptical at first and my daughter thought that she was for sure going to starve, but came through in the end. We now have a “giving jar” we add funds to so that we can be generous when a need arises. Good stuff!

Meredith - Pick one? That’s hard…even though I haven’t been a follower for too long that’s a tough decision. I do appreciate all of your photography posts and tips – I’ve always been a picture taker but after receiveing a great camera for a gift I’m even more interested and addicted! Your post on the My Publisher Book was great and I’m actually sitting down on the 27th with my computer at our church scrapbooking day and getting my book done (thanks to your referrel)!

Oh and I would LOVE one of those hats for my little one!

Lisa Johnson - so many to choose from! Now I’m tempted to go all the way through the archives. Fun! I always love the craft ideas and peeks at your amazing, creative home, but the post that stands out the most to me is when you introduced your baby girl to your grandpa. That brought back sweet memories of my grandparents. Thank you Ashley for blessing us with inspiration and beauty, and most of all, for edifying us to enjoy the precious moments of life.

evalina miller - one favorite post? that’s difficult for me. i will say though that i love your posts about how you made the daybed for your adorable daughter’s adorable nursury. i also love what you did to your kitchen. the color scheme you chose is among my favorites. and of course posts like this one, where i get a chance to win a hat for my little baby due 9 days from now, are close to the top of the list.

Jennifer Ross - I love all of them, but I’ll pick the post of your daughter’s nursery since that is how I found you (via Design Sponge). You are amazing and so uber creative. I love your style! I want to be you. No really, I do. Remember that I’m that stalker? Don’t be scared. I don’t have time to ever find you(please read the sarcasm here. I realize since I don’t really know you, you may see this as not funny.), but I love everything you post. My project list is twice as long since following you.

Nicole - 12.15.09, GRANDPA POST. it was my first time running across your blog and I saw your grandpa playing with your daughter. I had lost a grandpa 4 years earlier (almost to the date) and it made me miss him and wish he was here to play with my kids and new baby. Since then I’ve checked your blog daily and you are my first person listed on my blog inspiration board on my sidebar.

Callie - I love all your posts on your crafty projects and when you share how you’ve decorated your house….can’t wait to see the boys room! Thanks for the giveaway!

Ashley - I am new to the blog, but I loved reading the post about your nursery details – I’m in the planning phase now, just working on ideas, so it was wonderful to read how yours came together!

Charla Lane - Well one of my FAV posts, was how you got the headband for little sister and you thought it looked like an eye patch and you jumped out and scared your boys. LOL….. I love how your creative brain works.(I am TOTALLY making those eye patches for my youngest sons bday). I also LOVED when you talked about how God sent an angel for you hubby @ Christmas. LOVE how you make life so FUN!!! (BTW I freaked a couple of days ago when I couldn’t find you blog) Glad it’s all worked out. I have to add that I got some AWESOME Monster truck pics @ the BOK thanks to your tips. I shot manual and they turned out WAY better than last years.

Alli - Honestly, it would be your last post because it led me to your husbands twitter account where my heart broke for the children in his pictures. This is by far my favorite. But the best part, seeing those that accepted Jesus as their Savior! Truly inspiring and brings tears to my eyes.

Charla Lane - Sorry, One more…I Know it was on here somewhere but I am not sure where…you were talking about how we as moms aren’t in very many pics. It really hit home with me. SO now I am up for the no make-up, crazy hair, fat or thin pics. Thanks for that.

Grace - I am new to your blog and I am absolutely in awe of how much you can do being a mom of 4! My mom found your blog and shared it with me. I started looking through it last Thursday and on Friday night it was down. I was so sad that I had to email you and find out why. You emailed me and thankfully you were just switching servers. I am glad that you are back up now! I love that you involve your kids in everything you do. I love your style and that you take so many pictures of your kids. I have to little boys and I struggle to even get one good picture out of them a day. I think that you inspire me and that I will be taking more pictures, and do more crafts. That said, I think that my favorite post would be the short little photography tutorials you have given.

Kara - Too hard to pick just one! I LOVE all the diy projects! I am a relatively new stay at home mom and it has been fun to try some of ur crafts!

Elizabeth - I love when you show your kids being kids…messes and all!

Shelly - I love your blog and the way I found it was through your “entering the girl world (the nursery)” which was featured on OhDeedoh.

Ang - Back in the day there was this post about a little guy named Rooke. I liked that one. But of the posts included in your archives . . . I really liked the one about the dresses for little girls in Africa. That seemed to be the epitome of who you are all wrapped up in one.

Crystal - I really enjoy any of your photography tips. I wish I lived closer to attend one of your workshops. You are so talented!

Stephanie - My favorite blog (so far) is the one that brought me to your blog: http://ashleyannphotography.com/blog/2010/01/13/diy-paper-bird-painting/ I so appreciate how you make such wonderful things from simple, everyday stuff!

emily - the goat whisperer, for sure. if only i was close enough to take a snapshop workshop…

Ashley SP - Wow, five hundred? I love quite a few of your posts but I have the living room one bookmarked for inspiration. =D

Yay! I’ve been trying to convince my sister than one of the Zoe Lynn hats would make a perfect auntie gift.

Beatrice Killam - One of my favorite posts? That’s a tough one. I guess the recent one about the myPublisher album. It gave me such a good idea to do the same instead of doing scrapbooks for my kids anymore.

Crystal - I love all of your posts! If I had to choose a favorite, it would probably be the one about the pumpkin patch visit and Hudson with the goat. Adorable!

Caitlin - I loved the post that had the tutorial for the fabric birds on canvas that are above your fireplace. I am going to make those one of these days!

Ali Richardson - I love the post where you show pictures of the nursery. It is the most beautiful nursery I have ever seen!!! White floors, oh my!! Don’t even get me started. LOVE IT!!

Suzanne - I enjoyed your posts about your photo books. I made those for my parents for Christmas from a different website, but I like the look of yours better. Thank you so much for sharing!

Tessa - I found your blog a few months ago and I ABSOLUTELY love it! Your blog is by far one of my favorites. I can’t even imagine trying to pick a favorite post. Some of my favorite things about the blog are your amazing photos, the fun you have with your kids, the cool projects, creativity, and the colors. You also inspire me with your faith and pure heart. You are awesome!

Amanda - I am relatively new to the blog. But I really liked the post you did recently about melting crayons with your son. I actually did an activity similar to that with my neices and nephew when I was babysitting after I read it. We melted crayons in a muffin tin in the oven and used a heart cookie cutter to cut them out. Then we poked a hole in the top before it got too hard and put a string through it to make Valentine’s Day necklaces. They loved it. They each made two and kept one and gave one to their mom, teacher, grandma, etc.

maegan - I love all your posts. So hard to just pick one- especially between all your great craft posts. I think I would have to pick the one about Rice Night. It is such a great idea and challenged me to think of more ways to intentionally teach my children lessons.

star3night - my favorite post? I love your blog, it would be impossible for me to pick a favorite! Although, those photos of your boys stomping in the mud have stuck with me since you posted them! I love that you were able to keep shooting after the little one jumped in wearing his shoes.

Heather - it was what the blog post that introduced me to ashleyann! It was of baby Beam in the special care nursery at St. John’s, I was working that night and you came to take pics and after you left Mandy told me all about you! Every since most of St.Johns nursery girls have become addicted to your blog!
