going out for a hike

So, as my sweet (& funny) friend Tracey pointed out – yesterday’s photo did not look like the woods at all. That photo was taken on a vehicle trail…here are more that look lots more “woodsey”. We were able to make a trip out of town for a special party (more on that later). During our little trip we tromped through the woods. It was good to be outside and surrounded by the massive trees and with my family. No agenda other than enjoy ourselves…which 6 of the 7 of us did.

My heart walking around.

FireCracker was done walking, that is one fine man. Do you see those sister’s holding hands? Bless my soul.

She was tired, so we sat for a while together. My oldest son took this photo.

I put the camera on Auto for my son…SnapShop students take note of the big change in the settings ISO 400, 1/250, f/8.0

My oldest son is so much like me. He savors time alone in the vast outdoors.

 Auto Settings because I forgot to switch it back! ISO 400, 1/400, f/10 ~ ISO 400, 1/80, f/4.0

It was a good tromp in the woods. I wish I could do it today!

  • danielle - I love every moment spent in the woods. Those trees are beautiful! Amazing pictures.

  • Tonya - The picture of the girls holding hands……..so cute!!!!

  • Bonnie - Such a sweet post :) Also, your outfit details, please! You look great!

  • seriously sassy mama - I would love to take a walk in the woods.

  • Kimberlee Jost - I wish Meg, Jess and I were coming today with thermoses full of coffee to sit on a couple of quilts in the middle of the woods to catch up. I could really love that kind of calm today. :)

  • Corrie Anne - What a sweet time! I love to tromp. :)

  • Amy - Beautiful photos! Looks like a fun and beautiful walk. :-)

  • Emily - I love it! And thanks for posting settings :-)

  • BeckyH in MA - **raising my hand**
Ummm…. what are those “berries” that your son is holding? I’m hoping they are some kind of weed in OK. Because they sorta look like poison sumac berries, but I’m from Mass.

  • Lisa M - These are awesome pictures, Ashley!
Can you tell us…did you use some type of editing feature with the black and white? They don’t look like normal black and white to me…
    Thanks!

  • Molly - great pic of him carrying both girls and them holding hands….oh my!

  • Jacci in Ohio - Love :) My favorite is the one with Chris holding both girls. They’re holding hands, and he’s holding them. What a moment to cherish.

We had *gorgeous* weather all last week here. We spent many, many hours in the woods. Somedays I took my camera, other days I just took my phone. One of my favorite pictures was an instagram, lol. Go figure.

Love the “auto” comparisons, too. Very helpful. I have to say, I really like the one with the f/8 and all the trees in focus! Converging lines! :)

  • Jacci in Ohio - Oops – f/10 :)

  • Tracy A - There are the trees! :) (and my name spelled wrong…oops!!) I really appreciate the comparisons to auto. Saving my pennies so I can take a snapshop sometime next year…I surely need a lesson. And, in agreement with everyone else, the photo the the girls holding hands–incredible!

  • Erica G - Lady, you were styl’n and profil’n in the woods!

  • kelsey - Ashley, you are too cute! I took your first snapshot online course last year – just had one lingering question. Will a Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM work on a cropped frame camera? Like a rebel?

  • Lyn - Love the hand holding sisters.

  • RachaelB - All are wonderful photos, but the one of the girls holding hands … that’s captures the prayer of a mom’s heart, that her children will be friends.

  • Tanya - I need to roam the woods for a while right about now. Sounds so relaxing. I love my alone time as well!

  • elizabeth - such beautiful picts!! Isn’t fall perfectly LOVELY?!!

  • Victoria / Justice Pirate - I suddenly feel guilty for not manually setting up every single one of my shots. I have an astigmatism in my eyes and they have a hard time focusing in and out and I fear that if I put on manual, I’ll mess up and see something in focus that isn’t in focus. I should probably wear my glasses when taking photos. My husband uses manual settings often but yeah.. .I do see the difference and as a photographer who gets paid for shoots, I should really not use the auto setting so often. :: sigh ::
If you ever want to rid of your sons’ clothing. . .we only are given hand-me-downs and they always point out how cool your sons dress. haha.
