quieter on the home front

Back in the day I was a gymnast. My little guy is in preschool where they do gymnastics an hour a day. It is awesome. I haven’t seen him so excited about something not related to his big brother or Legos in a long time. The hardest part about him going to preschool at a gym is it makes me want to get out on that tumbling tramp so bad. We are new there, so I am thinking I’ll spend the next few months trying to win over the owners so that maybe they will let me play on the equipment one day. Going to have to work on my plan for that.

It is odd having two boys gone and the younger two old enough to play and run around. I remember when the older boys were 1 & 3. It seemed impossible to run in and out of places. It was hard work. Funny how perspective changes. Now when I just have a 1 & 2 year old around I feel like I can do anything – even pop in and out of stores. It also means I now have a chunk of time to be alone during naps. It’s nice.

The first day of preschool it rained. I sat on the front porch and enjoyed myself during naptime. The Craft Hope book recently came out. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. It is even better than I expected (and I had high expectations). So many ideas. So many resources. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.

I also transferred everything from my 2010 MomAgenda to my new 2011 one. Littlest Brother decided to draw throughout my 2010 one, so that was annoying. MomAgendas go from August to Decemeber of the following year. There is a daily section for each kid and a spot on each day to record your dinner menu. I’ve been using them for a couple of years now. I like actually writing in something verses everything digital.

FireCracker woke up, but entertained herself while I took a pencil to my living room walls.

While I was drawing I thought she was playing with a toy. I looked down to find this. It cracked me up.

She loves pulling out all my magazines, but this time she made herself comfortable on pillows left out by her brothers.

Like throwing magazines, she enjoys tossing her cup. I don’t enjoy that game.

Littlest Brother is an independent guy. I almost have to force him to play with my when his brothers are gone.

I like him. A lot.

Nicole - I’ve been looking into the momagendas, but find their website to be lacking – I want to SEE more of the product so I know what I’m getting into! In your opinion, are they more helpful than regular day planners? Wondreing if I should trade in my Franklin Covey? Need something small but want it to function for both work and home. Too much?? :)

annie - I prefer writing to digital – there is just something about crossing something off or writing it down that makes it real and important for me. So nice to see some other non-digital ladies out there.

laura - How sweet:). You always make motherhood very attractive…thanks for (realistically, of course) revealing your joy and love for your kids!!

Jamie - I am loving your pencil-mark frames! The tape on the pic is just so cute. I like to have a written calendar too bc I think it’s fun to go back and know exactly what I did a year or more ago; plus, I don’t have to worry about it crashing.

Giovanna - Your baby girl “reading” is adorable.
And your boy so handsome.
The frame was fabulous ha ha ha.

Bron @ Baby Space - Aww, so, so cute – all of you! That book looks great and if recommended by you MUST be good. Will have to put it on the list :)

Yuliana - They are so adorable. Cute baby girl you got!!!!

Stacey - Oh my… I love the rain and that picture is just beautiful. As a new(er) mom I have really grown to appreciate that prized alone time during the day. When Lillie is taking a nap and I can just kick back and get a few things done. So nice!

I will have to check out that book and I am the keeping of a handwritten agenda also. Always will be! :)

Lisa Johnson - That teaser picture of your new living room has me completely hooked. Can’t wait to see what you’ve done! That Firecracker is such a sweetie. She’ll be doing her own creative projects before you know it :)

colleen - Thanks for the rec. on Craft Hope. Am going to take a look next time i am at B&N. What on earth are you drawing on your walls? frames? We live in a 1920′s house with plaster walls which makes everything (especially hanging pictures) a little more challenging. So drawing a frame would definitely be easire and not require the patience of Job(: Noticed your walls are textured. What is that?
ps. I LOVE YOUR SITE!

colleen - Love a little free time! Are you drawing frames?

summer - Okay, Firecracker and the magazines is hysterical, love it! And I’m jonesin for some of your hand-drawn frames on my walls- when will you be in Idaho next? ;)

Robyn Farmer - I love it when you post pics of yourself. Just love it!

Lisa Tullett - Love that mom agenda…where could I get one?

Thanks for such a great blog!

Seamingly Sarah - This makes me look forward to expanding from 1 to 2 kids at home. Wish me luck.

Liene - Something went wrong…. I do not know what. This is wat I wrote “So time left over? More diy project? Can’t wait to read about it!”

lifeologia - So cute. Firecracker really takes after her mother ;)

Heather - i like this little peak into your day. and that wall looks pretty awesome. can’t wait to see more.

Tammy Kay - I just covered a cork board with that exact AB fabric! My frame is black though. I love the way the room is looking. Have you seen the new lines? Oh my goodness!

Joy Andrews - I am right here with ya Ashley-have 2 boys in school and two at home 2 & 1 too. My bummer is 2 yr old is transitioning from 2 naps to one-big BUMMERRRR I enjoyed 2 free times in the day. But its all about growing up and I do looove the stages. I will survive!
have a great day!
joy

Erin - Cute post. I love how Firecracker is lounging with her magazines, all she needs is her own Starbucks drink ;)

Lacey McKay - Whoa! Your blog just showed back up in my google reader all of a sudden! Yay!

ria - I loooove the pencil frames. Way cute.
I prefer pen to paper over all digital too. There is something about blank lines on paper that just beg to be written on.
Ria

tasha roe - such a tease! great sneak peak of the living room!

love that little one loungin’ with the magazines. that’s my kind of girl!

Jordan - About the throwing the cup thing- don’t know if you will find this helpful but we sure have! it’s called a clingy cord- http://www.ClingyCord.com my son is just now starting the throwing stage, I especially love this when we are out and about.. at restaurants and such! :)

rebekah - omGoodness, ashley! i didn’t know you were a former gymnast! awesome! besides my photography biz and CIMM, my sister & i own a gymnastics center. you should totally come down and play sometime. :)

Lisa S. - Great post! I noticed you have texturized walls like we do! Have you ever tried a vinyl on them? I want to put one up in the nursery but wondered if it would actually work or if I would just be wasting my money? What do you think?

heather - oooh the momagenda that looks rad! what size did you get?

emily anderson - my friend was just telling me about momagenda…she has one and was showing me all the fabulous things about it.
i’ve used the same planner for years now…but have been thinking about switching. so, you really like your momagenda?

and a hoo-rah for google reader finally working again!

Jodi - I love the mom agenda. You should add a link to your blog. I think they offer 10% incentive programs for linking up. YOu can earn some points towards your 2012 agenda!!

Firecracker will be as creative as her mama!

jennie K - I LOVE the idea of drawing the frames on the wall! That is SO CUTE! Where did you find the inspiration for that? I am in a rental so I would have to draw it on paper but I still love love LOVE the idea!!
