this belongs like on a postcard or a calendar or something?!?!!? what a cute pic!
is this really outside?? OMG IT IS GREAT!!!
This is the BEST picture of those two! Great job!
i love the picture, the real wooden sled makes it even better.
I especially love the socks for gloves! I do that all the time!
I absolutely adore this picture!
Great picture…it reminds me of a Norman Rockwell.
Thanks guys…yes it is really outside, in our backyard. Megan, funny you noticed the sock gloves. In my dislike for cold weather I never think to make sure the boys are stocked up on winter supplies..hence the socks instead of actual gloves!
Bring that sled and your family up this way and we’ll do some extreme sledding!

For those of you that are super organized…ignore this post. For those of you that aren’t, I thought I’d give a little insight into my routine with my personal digital images. If you aren’t backing up your photos, you are playing a risky game of losing a lot of documented memories. This is my routine to insure I don’t lose my photos due to computer or camera error….or Ashley error
**I have 2 memory cards designated for family photos. Through the course of the month I keep all personal photos on those cards and I do not delete any pictures I want to keep. I download pictures throughout the month to my computer, but do not delete them off my memory card.
**At the end of each month (usually the first day of the next month) I do the following:
!. Save all pictures from the month rename “3.08Campbells-001″ (or whatever the month and year is) in order
2. Burn all the renamed files to a dvd (cd is usually too small to hold my files)
3. Copy all files to an external hard drive
4. Delete all files off my memory card
5. Delete everything except my absolute favorites off my computer
This allows me to keep my computer free, have everything organized by the month. By keeping them on a hard drive and dvd, the risk of losing them is a little smaller. And if you are crazy like me you can keep your dvds in a fireproof box, so if your house burns down you still have all your pictures!
So…I encourage you to start this January keeping your files backed up and organized. You can buy an external hard drive at most electronic stores.
This also helps when I create albums for the year…post coming soon on that.

Does any external hard drive work better than another?
I was just wondering the other day how you keep track of all your photos. I feel like I can’t find a good way to keep my actual photographs organized so I’m looking forward to your albums post. Thx for the tips!
I don’t even have a cd burner – I have wanted one for a long time, but haven’t even looked for one. I know I need too!! All I have ever done to back up pictures is upload them to Shutterfly and order a DVD from them with my pictures on them. I know I need a much better method. Thanks for the advice.
Great advice. I also back up my photos and music to Amazon’s S3 service, which is basically like an external hard drive, but it puts your data on their secure network instead of being stored locally. I like it because they store it redundantly across the US at their data centers so, if one point fails, you have several backups. Plus you can access your file from anywhere (assuming you have computer access) and, if there’s a major catastrophe at your home (fire, flood, etc.) you don’t lose everything.
Best of all: there’s no monthly fee. You just pay per KB of data you transfer. It’s very cost effective and it gives me great peace of mind.
This is so helpful. I have been trying to come up with a good backup system. I currently have photos on my PC, duplicates on my laptop and backups either on DVD or flash drives. Now that I am creating digital albums, I have even more to back up. So it is becoming time consuming and bulky. I am looking into Carbonite, which sounds like it is similiar to Amazon’s service that Ryan mentioned. Anyone else have experience with online back up services?
My external hard drive crashed about 6 months ago, taking all my digital pictures from the last 7 years with it. I am so leery of putting them on something else that I am not even taking them off my camera which means I am not enjoying them. HELP!! What is a reliable external hard drive to buy? What would you suggest besides CDs? Do you know of a magical person in town that can retrive my memories so that I can sleep peacefully at night & not cry when I think of little girl baby pictures trapped in a metal box? Oops sorry – got a little emotional! I would love any advice you can give!
Great input on here guys, thanks for all the other tips. My system is simple and works for me. I suppose if my hard drive crashed and all my dvds got lost I’d be bummed. However, I do have duplicate printed albums of each year also with my favorite pics. There are so many options out there, but the reality is nothing will fully guarantee you never lose pictures. The amount of protection you choose is up to you, I just wanted to encourage those that never back up their photos or organize them to do so. Keep the advice coming!
Brittany – the average hard drive has a maximum life of 5 years and an average life of 3 years (according to most tech magazines). It’s not a question of if your hard drive will fail…it’s a question of when it will fail. That’s why Ashley’s 100% right in saying you need to back up everything to DVD or CD. I also think using an online service, such as Amazon or Sugarsync (though SugarSync is much more expensive) is a great idea. Total peace of mind.
It’s 4am and the kids won’t stay asleep. I might as well organize my photos.
Where did you have your printed albums done? Are they handmade scrapbooks or a Shutterfly book-type album? Does that make sense?
I’m super paranoid about losing our photos too. We also use an external hard drive and a 2nd back up drive that’s kept in the fireproof safe (no, you’re not the only paranoid one). The only thing we don’t do is burn DVD’s, but we upload all of our pictures onto our unlimited Flickr account which is a great way to keep everything off-site. I really need to get going and scan in all of my older pictures that are in scrapbooks since there are no backups of those.

I am so with you girl! I can’t stand it!
NOOOOO…..winter is beautiful! ;}
I do love winter – it’s being stuck in the house day after day that I hate!

Remember this couple from last fall?

Two weeks ago they welcomed their firstborn…Hudson. He was so peaceful and content for the session and it was fun for me to watch his parents beam as they held him. Congratulations C’s – remember to email me some pictures as he grows!

Congratulations Jen, he is so handsome! Ashley, we are all going to deeply miss seeing your beautiful baby sessions.
these are great ashley! we are going to miss having you as our family photographer. if you ever change your mind and begin doing sessions again please let us know.
Beautiful as usual – always gives me baby fever!!
Adorable! I agree…we’ll miss seeing those baby sessions!!! Guess you’ll just have to overload us on your babies!!!
Wow! What a hunk! I really like the pic of him yawning. Captures such a perfect moment of a newborn. Great job, Ashley.
If they aren’t the cutest couple with such a beautiful baby! Congrats! Beautiful pics.
I love these pictures. The red framing looks great.

I know a lot of you recently got new dslr cameras, so I thought I’d share a fun little accessory for those interested. I don’t use camera straps (probably should) but if I did it would be one from My Funky Camera. This picture doesn’t really do them justice, you need to go visit the site…

Have a great weekend…I have a newborn session this weekend, so check back Monday for some new pictures…finally!

Oh my gosh! I love them! Can’t wait to get one.
Love them…I have been eying them for awhile
Very cute! They need to make some more gender-neutral styles.
I have one on my old DSLR and love it. I need to get a new wristlet one for my big camera! They are made really well and I have had mine for a couple years and never had a problem.
Oh, I love them! Thanks for the website
Uh, I love it! But, you need to quit posting this stuff – it’s breaking the bank!!

I am cleaning off my computer…which means finding random pictures in all kinds of folders I forgot about. So I found this one and it made me laugh. After Corbett was born Chris bought me a trapeze lesson for my birthday. That lesson turned into about a months worth. I keep trying to get some friends to go with Chris and I again as a couples date night. So far no one thinks it is as fun as me. I think I’ll hang this in my room someday when I am old – actually that would just make me depressed
There you go…random new fact about me – I once was offered a job at Club Med as a trapeze performer!

how fun!! where did you take the lessons at?
That is an amazing picture, but I have to say… you truly make me sick… what can’t you do? Oh yeah, dance. Okay, now I feel better.
Pointed toes and all! Did you find a new place that does the lessons?
Very impressive, boy, you are flexible!
You look so professional! Sure you haven’t been doing this on the side?
Impressive and very inspiring……I’ve always secretly wished for the courage to attempt something like this (and look like this too–LOL) Maybe one day….just maybe! Thanks for sharing it though…..
So it’s official, you really are Superwoman!
I have told Steven over and over that I would LOVE to take trapeze lessons. However, my body is not near as flexible as it once was. More power to you with your almost perfect split! I’m impressed.
you should definitely hang that in your room! who can say that? not very many people. i would love the swinging part but couldn’t do the jumping off the step part. ever. once on a ropes course i started hysterically crying in fear. i could never be a trapeze artist. but if i could….i’d hang a picture of it on my wall for sure!
I remember when you had the lessons – I wished I was that adventuresome and fun!!
I used to take trapeze lessons!! So much fun.

I can’t believe I am missing it tonight! I have been waiting MONTHS for tonight and I am going to miss it! Our dear friends are moving overseas and we are going to a dinner for them. Adam & Liz, you know you are VERY DEAR friends if I am missing the season premiere of Lost for you…love you guys. I hope abc.com gets it online PRONTO (we live in the stoneage and don’t have cable, DVR, etc….) It’s killing me just thinking about it

Well, I do have a DVR and will be recording it just so you know. You and Chris are more than welcome to come watch it anytime.
I feel your pain … I am going to miss it too.
So I guess I shouldn’t leave a message on your maching talking about what happened?
Lesley – leave a messsage and I won’t let you babysit your crazy nephews anymore. Oh wait, maybe I should say if you leave a message you have to babysit every weekend
oh you poor thing. what did you do? it was all i could think about all day. i had asked my husband earlier in the day “what do we have today?” he couldn’t htink of anything and suddenly i said “LOST! that’s it!” i knew we had plans and it was a tv show. we watched the recap and 1 hour of the 2 hours. it was GOOD. i am completely addicted.
i hope you got to see it.
we both kept saying “this is such a good show all through out.

Across the street is a field with cows and horses, it is somewhat common for them to escape and venture to our place. Well over the weekend we looked out to see one in the back field and a teenager struggling to get the cow anywhere. I suggested to Chris that he might go give the kid a hand and I went back to baking a cake for my grandpa. About 15 minutes later I heard Corbett say, “Wow Mommy – daddy is a cowboy!” I looked out the back window to see him running in the field with a lasso chasing the cow. Gotta admit, it was pretty hot.

well guess Corbett had good time watching that, when Chris was Corbett’s age he was bottle feeding calves so probably brought back some farm memories
my poor husband knows how badly i wish he were a cowboy. but a banker in a suit is close enough right? how cool to live so close to that.
when we first moved here a wild turkey was on our sidewalk one day. very very lost.
pretty funny.
We’re ready fo you guys to move out with us! There’s a house going up for sale across the street from us. Horses, cows, pool….what more could you ask for?
Very, very cool, there’s nothing like a man and his lasso!
That picture is amazing! Love the story too.
That story makes me laugh out loud! Too cute! Great pic as usual girl!
What a great picture!

Today is such an exciting day – regardless of how you voted in November. Despite party lines and who you casted your vote for, today is an extraordinary day in the history of the United States of America. Chris and I worked with international students in Hawaii – we also worked with their kids who couldn’t speak english. When I think of those kids whose parents traveled to America, bore children and raised them in a new culture…it is very exciting to know that dreams of growing up to be President can be realized by those beautiful kids too. So no matter how you voted, I challenge you take advantage of today to help your kids soak in history that they will hear about for the rest of their lives.

I couldn’t agree more! I love the stories and pictures throughout history of Americans joining together in heart and hope. This is a great country.
Well said Ashley! I have thought the same thing today about my ESL students and my hope that they realize today their big dreams are possible in this wonderful country!
My 21-month old will saw him on TV and yelled…”Omama”. I have no idea where she picked it up from….maybe we followed the election a lot closer then we thought…maybe we talked about him enough that she soaked it up….I don’t know all I know is that my daughter knows who our 44th president is! HAHA!!
I do agree though….it was an extraordinary day!
