salt dough {magnets too}

Salt dough has been around for who knows how long, but sometimes I think we leave it to preschool teachers to have all the fun with it. The boys and I mixed up a little dough and went at it. I am a firm believer that if your kids are being creative at the table, you should sit down and get a little messy yourself. While the boys made airplanes and random blobs I made myself a few magnets. Here is the recipe for basic salt dough:

2 cups flour
1 cup salt
About 1 cup of water
***combine (adding more flour if too sticky), knead, create, cook at 250 for a couple of hours, paint if desired***

I sprayed all of our creations with clear acrylic spray to keep the paint from coming off. To make magnets, use Crafter’s Goop and glue your creation to a basic round magnet (found at Walmart, Hobby Lobby).

Earlier Biggest Brother and I had made some collages from my JCrew magazine. It was surprising to me to see how the colors that he used the most of then (orange, blue, green) were the same paint choices he made for his salt dough creations. I took the pattern off a dress on my collage for my magnet design.

Just fyi for those wondering….we showed up for Salsa lessons and were the only couple! The teacher said I could share Chris or they would make it a salsa aerobics class. Bummer, so we dropped out of the class. We might try coordinating one on our own with the teacher if we can round up enough couples.

melanie - If you wait another year, we would take them with you:)

Amber Dearman - Denise cracks me up!! I think I could talk Todd into taking Salsa lessons! I think it would be FUN!!

AshleyAnn - Denise I think it is funny that you refer to your husband by his full name, Cindy Wells does the same….Carl Lopez, Brad Wells

Denise - I believe the only salsa Carl Lopez and I will be experiencing together will be with chips. And when we are feeling crazy, a little guacumole with it. But you and Chris go ahead and knock yourselves out!!

Lesley from Jamaica!!! - Hey! Just checking in from Jamaica. We moved rooms so I’m away from the wireless. Looks like you’ve been busy. By the way, how’s my baby? Love you guys and will see you soon.
